Rudy, it's 50 quid on Amazon. Is that right and, if so, it it worth it?

A week before & al through holidays that are hot I take a non drowsy anti histamine (the one a day type) as this stops me getting prickly heat. The side effect is that I hardly notice any mossie bites I do get.

Toothpaste spread thickly on them (the old fashioned thick white stuff) works but does not look v elegant!

bigTillyMint · 03/08/2016 12:08

What does it do Rudy? Make them grow thicker or longer or both?

I can recommend eyelash and brow tinting - way easier in the muggy heat. I will be looking up MIs DIY rec when I get back!

Sorry to hear of your bloody woes. Mine are less gushing by far, but every bloody day - not great when you are on a beach hol Angry

Monty, happy hols in God's Own Country. I am sure you can take a few bottles with you - needs must! I remember a holiday in a remote cottage when I was small - just me, DM and my alcoholic father. I'm sure yours will be quite different!

We took an internal flight to Nha Trang this morning - beautiful beach, but a tad busier than friends remembered it from 20 years ago. And definitely geared towards Russian tourists who can fly here directly. And the rain has followed us, hopefully not all day, every day though.

bigTillyMint · 03/08/2016 12:10

Oh and re mozzies, we have gallons of industrial strength Deet. But not seen a single mozzie so farConfused

hattymattie · 03/08/2016 13:52

Morning crepies - have just had a lovely meet up with Cremo - in Galaries Lafayette. It was so nice to finally meet at least one of you in the flesh. We had a great chat and pretty much set the world to rights.

Herbs - I would be really annoyed about the pool thing - you'll have to say something. I agree with NU about a trip to Housesteads and Vindolanda - well worth it. Unfortunately you can no longer walk along the wall as I did as a child because of tourist erosion.

Mozzies - bite me and not DH who may be lying right next to me! DD1's BF, who has a beautiful white skin was eaten alive whilst staying with us in a way that non of us have ever been.

Feeling very tired with hot muggy weather and rubbish nights sleep last night. I think my system likes the routine of work and school and is really thrown out of kilter by the holidays.

motherinferior · 03/08/2016 14:32

I wrote a chunk of the chapter this morning...but then burst into tears at lunch with old friend who said "I haven't seen you in a state like this for 20 years" and instructed me firmly to explain I just cannot do this unpaid chunk of work within the set time frame. So I did. And feel much better.

It's DP's birthday so we are going out for dinner later tonight!

Herbs - just realised that many years ago I stayed at Rocca di Papa - opposite Castel Gandolfo ( on the other side of the crater lake). It was truly a beautiful place.

bigTillyMint · 03/08/2016 15:41

Ooh, anywhere nice, MI?

I am stuffed - DH having chosen Indian Confused Still, DS perked up after he had eaten a decent amount - he is just not eating enough ATM - too bothered about his six-pack, etc. This is a first as he is usually a complete gannet Confused

Glad you had a lovely MU Cremo and Hatty.

Auriga · 03/08/2016 16:27

Finding it difficult to post these days, as have unexpectedly ended up doing two jobs but I'm enjoying the holiday updates.

Temporary job continues, as the gap I'm plugging has turned out to be longer than expected. The service I'm working in is badly affected by recent untoward incident so it's easier for me to stay, as long as they find someone by the time we're due to go to Cornwall.

Went to Court as a litigant-in-person for the first time on Monday, & got judgement against a firm of solicitors who had failed to pay my fee. After ignoring every reminder and a formal written complaint over three years, they sent a barrister to defend the claim Shock. He tried pretending that they hadn't instructed me, then that it was somehow the fault of the LAA. Judge gave him short shrift. Took five minutes but not before we were moved to a different court and then kept waiting for an hour and a half Angry.

Wonderful experience singing in a Concert for Europe with DH and DD (and many others) on Saturday. She has a singing lesson in a minute, so that should also help to cheer me up...have been very sad, when not flat-out busy.

Meant to say a while back, I appreciated Crem's new (to me) coinage of the phrase 'Ladies who Lurch' and have been thinking of ways to incorporate it in a thread title.

Kitchen is being painted so we have excellent excuse to go out to dinner tonight.

Happy holidays, all who are away or about to go.

motherinferior · 03/08/2016 16:29

Our local Posh Bengali, which is really very good indeed. All of us. I have frugally requested that their current Offer be applied to the booking...and so am contemplating the cocktail menu.

Feeling spectacularly shite, I must say.

Lalsy · 03/08/2016 17:09

Mmmm MI, that looks great. Whassup?

Auriga, that's lovely about the concert. I hope you can get a proper break when you go away.

Blackduck · 03/08/2016 17:24

Oh yummy MI....

I gave up on laptop and took ds out for lunch instead. I am shattered and could do with a weekend at home but there isn't one on the horizon for four (4, IV) weeks. weeps

New washing machine ordered..... Kitchen wall being rebuilt Friday, patio to be started Monday..... All go here.

motherinferior · 03/08/2016 17:30

Oh, just the tsunami. Must put clean sheets on the bed...

Auriga, when my aunt rang me yesterday I thought for a moment it was my mum.

Collymollypuff · 03/08/2016 18:35

Aw, MI, I think you'll get lots of those moments. Sad You're not anaemic as a result of tsunamis, are you? Thanks

"Ladies who lurch" - I had missed that Crem gem. Grin Thanks, Auriga. Glad to hear your court case is done and dusted at last, and that you were triumphant - well done!

Cremolafoam · 03/08/2016 19:18

BD, please take some time off. Before you crumble completely. Unless it's helping to be doing something and not thinking, then give yourself a break .Shock

Great mini MU with our French Correspondent - chatted for two( 2, ii )hours , it was lovely!, super to make contact and so nice to see the GL from the cafe! Thanks Hatty, for coming into town.
Dh did eventually turn up btw, just was busy eating masses of chocolate patisserie ( research apaz) eye rolling all round. We then had a delightful tour of the Opera Garnier ( bus woman's holiday for me obv) and have just returned to flat to freshen up for dinner. It's all walking and eating here.....

Will read other posts later. Mwa! avec bises from Paris.

Lalsy · 03/08/2016 19:23

For those with moments Flowers.

I am knackered - Hatty I agree about hols. I like routine and we have a summer of many comings and goings. Fun but tiring.

news from bothy-land - ds wants specific hot chicken wings on arrival tomorrow - classic walking holiday.......

And dd is absolutely loving her job this week (working with children - she is being given a lot of freedom - her group of Harry Potter-crazed six year olds can now introduce themselves in Latin and cast a spell/sword fight Grin).

herbaceous · 03/08/2016 19:25

Oh BD, your plate runneth over. Does the building work really need to be done Right Now? Or is it serving as a good distraction?

Had delightful yet exhausting afternoon at the Villa d'Este in Tivoli, with its 500 fountains. Absolutely amazing, and inspiration for practically every garden centre ever since. Sat Nov caused us to get lot, and to have a navigation-related spat, but I'm praising all available gods for air conditioning in cars. It was 37deg today. Hence, we didn't do hadrian's villa, as just too hot and knackered.

So, nicely sweaty I got straight in the pool upon return, marking my scent upon our territory. No more sign of son-in-law and his proprietorial ways. We concocted a theory. It's like a lion pride - the old male (owner of house) is being threatened by Younger Male, who wants his territory (the house). We're imagining many heated Italian arguments, with Young Male not wanting Old Male to do air b-n-b, as it prevents his young having run of the place, thwarts his ambitions to be head lion, etc. So he's marking his territory, via towels and standing with one foot on chairs.

Ooh, spoke too soon. He's now prowling round, on his mobile. I'm seeing if he sprays up the umbrella.

Re mosquito bites, I have been finding much relief in applying q v hot spoon to worst offenders, as recommended on Facebook like the hairdryer theory, I presume, but more localised. Involves that 'nice' pain.

Stropperella · 03/08/2016 21:00

BD, take some time off! Pleeeeeeeeeeeease. Smile

Crem, your hols sound just the ticket so far. And how lovely that you and Hatty had a MU.

Herbs, I now realise why ds spent the latter part of our sojourn in France swatting himself noisily with hot spoons. I think the fact that I made no further enquiries about why exactly an 11 year old boy was dancing around in the altogether frizzling bits of himself with overheated cutlery speaks volumes about just how hurty my back was. Or poss how much codeine I was necking. Grin

Jolly MU in Bournemouth today with old online friend and her family. Known her even longer than I've known you lot Grin and her dd is friends with dd, so the dds went off round the shops and we yakked our way round the parks. It was lovely, and also the weather was summery again.

And my back hardly grumbled. I clearly need more days filled with gentle park walks and quality yakking.

Stropperella · 03/08/2016 21:02

MI, sorry to hear about exhausting menstrual nastiness. Hope you are able to enjoy dp's birthday dinner without too many hasty dashes to the facilities.

Stropperella · 03/08/2016 21:16

Lalsy, your dd is clearly doing sterling work in her summer job. I love the vision of the gaggle of Latin-spouting 6-year-olds. Grin

(does she fancy a job teaching Classics in a prep school?)
