Bikini or one piece swimsuit?

I'm not as confident as I was, I'm not as slim and toned as I was now at 43, going on holiday in a week. I definitely look better in a one piece and you can get some sexy nice ones, does anyone else wear a one piece on the beach , my bum and legs are good it's just my horrible tummy??!!!

As long as you can pee

MiddleClassProblem - why has your peeing-in-a-one-piece strategy never occurred to me before? Blush

I'm in the bikini camp - funnily enough, when I was young and firm-of-body I was far more self-conscious and always went for a boring black one-piece. Now I really don't care.

Pacific that's how I feel about those cutouts as well.

They are nearly as revealing as a bikini and much more attention-grabbing.

Not so much that you must wear a bikini, but if you are confident enough to wear one of those then I don't understand how you could fail to be confident enough to wear a bikini.

Dh (yes, he is a man) had to point out to me that one can pee out of a one-piece by pulling the crotch to one side. Genius. Changed my life. I am 50 and swam competitively in my yoof. Much wrestling in and out of racing cozzies during competitions could have been avoided.

Well maybe not the cut out ones, but the plunge ones I can wear because it covers my tummy and the rest of me is ok, I feel more confident in it even though i'llbe in the minority

Pacific, I told my mum the same last year at a spa and it was like I had revolutionised her life!

I've gone a bit mad and bought a few more plunge swimsuits, sorry but I like them they cover my tummy and still look sexy perfect! For me anyway 😀

Last year DH took a pic of me on the beach wearing a bikini and standing beside lithe and slender and tanned DS 18 and DD 14. Let's just say it was not the most flattering pic and I was fairly aghast at the sight of my flabby untoned stomach and saggy boobs. So this year I invested in two expensive and beautifully cut swimsuits, one from Eres and one from Seafolly. We got back from 2wks on a Spanish island yesterday and I have to report that on the beach absolutely no-one was wearing a swimsuit – each day I'd spot perhaps two random 70+ women in 1960s pointy-boobed specials. Tons of Spanish women were topless and they were all shapes and sizes. It was bloody great and very liberating. I did feel that I looked quite out of place in my one-pieces, lovely as they are. Next year I'll pack both.

Well I know no one else will be wearing them but time to start a new trend then lol 😆

I think a bikini is better!
The eye is actually drawn to the fabric not your body so the smaller the bikini the better!
IE small bikini bottoms look like a small bottom!
I don't think that quite works if someone is on the sun lounger next to you but as I always say if they don 't like what they see they don't have to look do they!
Wear what you want & have a lovely holiday!

Well done op Smile

I'd like to wear a bikini, I'm size 10 and 5'3" but my whilst my stomach is relatively flat the skin is terribly loose and stretch marked and it really puts me off Sad I bought a couple a while back but I've never felt confident enough to wear them. I'm on hol this weekend, maybe I should just go for it.

Personally I much prefer bikinis for myself and think I look better in a bikini than a one piece but it's horses for courses really

If you think you look better in one piece then I would trust your instinct but please don't choose a one piece because of some old fashioned belief that you are 'too old' to wear a bikini!

Nobody actually cares when you are away. I was on a busy beach in Italy and noone gave a backward glance. It is more about what you feel comfortable in. I wore a one piece that is skirted like a slip and it was fine. I felt fine in it and noone stared at me. The vast majority of people did wear bikinis but there were also people wearing one pieces. I think they are definetly making a comeback and there are lovely ones.

I'm a recent convert to bikinis (in my 50s) because I no longer care if I'm too white or wobbly. What I've discovered I love about it is that you're dry so quickly after swimming. No more cold soggy fabric clinging to my middle.

I think this could be really good if you decide to go for a swimsuit (so cheap you could get it anyway!) The black side panels do look like it would slimming.

However, I think you should go for a bikini. I agree that high waisted ones look like adult nappies. Get a bit of a tan on your stomach and you'll look great! We all are so critical of our own bodies but we really shouldn't be. Honestly, go on hols and enjoy yourself in your bikini!

You'll get interesting tan lines in those slashed front swimsuits, that's for sure!

PacificDogwood seeing as I'm going to Mallorca on holiday because of you, I just found you a sporty looking tankini! What do you think of this ?

Bikini unless proper swimming in an indoor pool. I can't wee properly in a swimming costume and am too lazy to take it off completely. Bikinis are so much easier.

I was in an Italian beach resort earlier this week and pretty much everyone, including grandmas, wore bikinis. But the beach is about fun and relaxation so wear anything that makes you comfortable.

At a beach today and it was a real mixture. Long wetsuits, short wetsuits, rash vests, rash shorts, full costumes, bikini, bikini and t shirt, bikini and board shorts.
