Help!

My brother is getting married in a month, the dress code is as stated, and I have no idea where to start.

I have broad shoulders, large boobs that require a full cup bra, a fat belly thick waist, and no hips or arse. I'm flabbier than I'd like. I'm maybe a 16 to 18 on top, 12-14 bottom.

My current "style" is unfashionable jeans, a t-shirt, and a hoodie with trainers, every day and in every situation.

I don't wear makeup, ever, have no idea how to wear it or put it on, and don't really want to change that. Short hair. Can't show my arms, don't want to show my legs. Don't like skirts or dresses and would spend the whole time self-conscious if I wore these.

And it has to be something I can take with me on a plane.

I have no ideas. Do I need a hat? Do I need to learn to walk in high heels, in a month? Trousers and jacket, or something else? :(

I'm flailing here and would be really grateful for help/opinions/tellings-off.

Thank you Scarzo! I used to be twenty stone so I hate thinking about my body.

You need a v neck and a nipped in waist rather than baggy clothes. What about this? Jaques Vert (House of Fraser or Debenhams)

No no no! The boobs are not a problem, the boobs are fabulous. And you don't need to lose weight ffs!

Debenhams is a very good idea. The dress you have bought is nice, nothing wrong with it at all, but no harm in looking further.

And there is a big Phase Eight in Guildford too.

LadyB49 · 13/07/2016 14:46

Control underwear makes any clothing hang better.
And I agree that a V neck is much more flattering.

Brilliant you are going to use Debenhams personal shopper.

V neck
sleeves if possible
Knee length or maxi

Or..silky fabric floaty trousers and tunic top.....bought as an outfit or put together by the personal shopper.

If not possible to have sleeves then a fab silk wrap can be draped and secured/pinned in place so you can forget about it all day/night.

With ankle length outfit you can get away with pretty and flat shoes/sandals.

LadyB49 · 13/07/2016 17:32

I meant sleeves or wrap only if you don't like arms on showFlowers

AYD2MITalkTalk · 13/07/2016 17:41

V necks can be tricky with the boobular support I require but I will mention it to the Debenhams person. What's the difference between a wrap and a shrug? Wraps don't have sleeves?

Wrap is basically a glam shawl. I don't think a wrap will do it if you want your lower arms covered. You need a shrug (and quite a few are only elbow length so make sure you specify full sleeves if that's what you need).

minipie · 13/07/2016 17:56

Shrug also known as bolero

Thank you!

Without the (£50!) cardie

I prefer it without the cardigan (I'd hear to accessorise and get a scarf as a cover up)
It's lovely :)

AYD2MITalkTalk · 19/07/2016 16:19

£50! For a synthetic cardie!

The dress is £95 which isn't tooooooo bad.

Given that I hate clothes shopping, if it were either of the two I've posted, which would people vote for? Thanks so much everyone for all your support! You're the only thing getting me through this Grin

It's not bad OP, I like the length and the waistline. However I would like to see some other options.

are you in a shop at the moment? we could be personal shoppers via t'interweb and suggest some dresses.

minipie · 19/07/2016 16:39

Of the two you've posted, I'd pick the first one.

AYD2MITalkTalk · 19/07/2016 16:40

I'm in Debenhams, but TBH if I try on another dress I'll cry. I have a few photos of other things I tried on, though; I'll try and upload a few.

The black and white dress you posted at 15.39 is my favourite, that suits your figure and looks really nice. The cardigan is nice too.

I hate shopping when you know you HAVE to buy something Confused

minipie · 19/07/2016 16:53

Well done for trying on lots of things!

My favourites are the first dress (from beginning of thread) and I also really like the two floaty tops with trousers. I especially like the black/pink floaty top, it's really pretty.

Although, I am not sure if those particular trousers look smart enough for a wedding - I think you need either something more fitted or more luxurious (silk or suchlike). Or, actually, some kind of pencil type skirt would look good with those tops and would show off your calves and great leg length.

Did you feel more comfortable in the top and trousers (since you said you don't like dresses)? If so then I'd pursue those options. You will get more future use out of top/trousers or top/skirt than a dress, I suspect.

minipie · 19/07/2016 16:54

By the way

TAKE YOUR SOCKS OFF

it takes 5 seconds and makes everything look miles better.

FunkyChunk · 19/07/2016 16:58

Try Scarlett & Jo.

Don't be put off by the plus size models!!! (Only mentioning because you we're scared off by the "fat frump" look earlier!)

I bought this for SIL's wedding in August, it's lovely. Nice material and hangs well

MSIOF · 19/07/2016 17:14

Socks make me happy! 😂

I didn't like wearing the floaty tops really. Too sweaty and polyestery.

AYD2MITalkTalk · 19/07/2016 17:49

Oh, name change fail there. And i was doing so well.

Right. So, I'm back home, fainting from heat and knackered out, and having done so much clothes shopping I think I might die. So.

I think I'm going to have to go with one of the two dresses I posted on page 1 and at 15.39, as I'm so tired and can't face another minute of shopping, at least until I've recovered some energy!

Think, woman, think!
