Can't afford to get gels done at the mo, so just looking for recommendations on reasonably priced varnish. Thanks

Maybelline. Goes on well. Colour is accurate. Dries quickly. Doesn't chip easily.

Aquamarine70 · 06/07/2016 10:09

I've sways liked Revlon. The consistency is always nice & thin & it dries fast. Lots of nice colours too.

Aquamarine70 · 06/07/2016 10:10

*always

HopeArden · 06/07/2016 10:13

M&S nail polish is really good too.

PinkyPlumet · 06/07/2016 10:23

Barry m gel polish. Lasts around 5-7 days for me!

burnishedsilver · 06/07/2016 10:49

I've had most success with rimmel - the type in the smaller bottles, not the wider bottle.

dottyaboutstripes · 06/07/2016 10:52

I love Chanel and Dior but recently bought Barry M gelly (2 for a fiver in superdrug) and I'm amazed! It's really good!

Aworldofmyown · 06/07/2016 10:52

If you can stretch to it buy Seche Vite top coat £9 in boots.

It makes even rubbish nail polish stay on, drys super fast and leaves that lovely gel shine.

pippinandtog · 06/07/2016 10:52

Another one for Revlon.
And one which I tried and was pleasantly surprised: Asda's George all-in one polish: only tried it on toenails so far, but it lasted really well.

ijustwannadance · 06/07/2016 11:05

Agree with pp about the top coat. Make any varnish last much longer and dries hard in minutes.
The seche vite is great as is the nails inc caviar top coat.

TwuntingCat · 06/07/2016 11:06

I really like Topshop nail polish and they have a huge range of colours, they also do a gel effect top coat which makes them look quite professional.

bloodynoris · 06/07/2016 11:09

I really like models own and they are normally on offer in either super drug or boots and I think it's 6 for £20 at they bottle stores at the moment

Brandnewbrighttomorrow · 06/07/2016 11:10

No 7 gel look.

BigGirlsDontCry1 · 06/07/2016 11:21

I bought a gel starter kit from Amazon. Includes uv lamp, basecoat, top coat and 2 colours plus prep and wipe wipes. Cost around £40. Got my money back once I'd used it twice!

I would however go for an led lamp if I was buying again just to speed up the process.

ephemeralfairy · 06/07/2016 11:39

Barry M
Essie
L'Oreal Colour Riche
Butter London, Ciate and OPI are more expensive but all good.

ChowNowBrownCow · 06/07/2016 14:42

Essie everytime

HeyMacWey · 06/07/2016 14:45

I'm really rating Essie after they started sticking then in my local superdrug.

Goes on well with the wider brush and long lasting with their hard as nails top coat.

My last set of hand nails lasted about 10 days before starting to chip.

Cakescakescakes · 06/07/2016 14:52

I tried some Barry M recently too and am amazed at how long it lasts chip free. Have a Speedy Dry and a Gelly. Two for £5 in Boots at the minute. They need 3 coats for perfect coverage but with 3 coats plus a quick dry top coat (Sèche Vite or Poshé are the best) I get minimum 5 days pretty much chip free.

DroopyTulips · 06/07/2016 15:17

Barry M, Revlon and Essie would be my choices. But you definitely need a base coat and a good top coat. Try Beauty UK's Speed Dry Base Coat (from Superdrug) and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Top Coat (in a red bottle) from Superdrug or Boots.

Lndnmummy · 06/07/2016 15:17

Sally hansen are amazing

101handbags · 06/07/2016 16:10

And another for Revlon. Or the Rimmel 60 second one.

theclick · 06/07/2016 16:11

Barry M is good

MiniCooperLover · 06/07/2016 17:18

Rimmel have started to do a gel varnish. Two coats of polish followed by their gel polish and a home made shellac type manicure

nickdrakeslovechild · 06/07/2016 20:16

Seche vite is cheapest on amazon if you have prime or adding it to an order. Always around £5.50. Been buying mine on there for a couple of years. Best top coat out there.

SesameSparkle · 06/07/2016 20:51

I've tried lots of brands but my clear favourites are Essie, Revlon Colorstay and Sally Hansen. You get a lovely gel style finish on all of them and a manicure that lasts a week and isn't a faff to remove. I've also just started using the Sally Hansen insta-dry mentioned here. It's a great product, that works just like Seche Vite but without Toluene. It makes all the difference using a quick dry product after painting your nails that lets you get on with your life.
