habibihabibi · 06/07/2016 09:54

I have a new colleague who is older but a classic beauty, perfectly groomed and made up .So I've stalked her and seen she she takes a little tote on each trip to the loo and touches up as well as hot brushes her hair with a battery brush thingy, tops up deodorant , perfume and brushes her teeth.
Excessive ?
I'm game to add at least some of the rituals as always just do am makeup and on occassion top up lipstick meaning I look crumpled and crap by the commute home.

Oh my goodness I feel like a complete tramp after reading how others take care of them selves! I'm lucky if can brush my hair and I think I'm having a brilliant day if I get to brush my teeth b4 lunch with 7mo baby! I'd love to get back to a good grooming routine, Weldone you fab lady's

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 08/07/2016 21:18

I either touch up powder and lips three or four times a day, or not at all. Depends on what lipstick I'm wearing tbh - if I'm just wearing a balm then I tend to slick it on all the time and don't bother with the rest.

CointreauVersial · 08/07/2016 22:38

I never touch up.

Unless I happen to be going out in the evening, in which case I'll re-do it at home before I leave.

I don't even carry anything with me during the day, not even a hairbrush.

JackandDiane · 09/07/2016 11:21

LOL at "of a day:

OP YOU ARE SO A BRUMMIE

FitbitAddict · 09/07/2016 14:07

I wear make up to work. After 7.15 I barely look in the mirror. I reapply lipstick or use lip balm but I don't carry any other cosmetics in my bag or have any at work. I won't brush my hair again either. Fortunately despite this lackadaisical attitude I look quite presentable.

Thingiebob · 09/07/2016 15:48

How much make-up do you all wear?! I put on foundation, concealer, a bit of blush and brown mascara. I never touch up through the day, although sometimes I might run a brush over my hair.

TheGardenOfEdenExists · 09/07/2016 15:58

Touch up before external meetings, after lunch and before leaving.

Will reapply concealer, touch of blusher, curl eyelashes (at end of day) and powder. I'll als whack on some lipstick. Ditto deodorant and perfume.

Oly5 · 09/07/2016 20:10

Make up and hair in the morning before leaving for work.
Don't touch either for rest of day.
If I'm working at home, no mAke up. Ever

JackandDiane · 09/07/2016 22:32

wear loads of make up
do hair daily
I brush 3 times a day
touch up at lunchtime

Dachshund · 09/07/2016 22:40

Usually no topping up but if I want to look particularly great the whole day I'd take my lipstick, concealer and eye liner with me for touch ups.

I have dry skin though, and rarely wear foundation so no need for blotting or powder

yummycake123 · 08/08/2016 13:26

I have a small makeup bag in my handbag with things like lipgloss, foundation, eyeliner, concealer, etc. I normally re-apply lipstick/lipgloss twice a day. I also check my face (sometimes I add a bit more concealer or blush), i fix my hair but don't brush it and re-apply a bit of perfume. I do it at my desk, we're very casual and nobody cares.
So yeah, I would say I touch up once or twice a day.

Fibbertigibbet · 08/08/2016 22:34

Lip balm a few times throughout the day when I remember, powder if my nose gets shiny, sometimes under my nostrils gets red and I touch up concealer, but I really can't imagine doing all the things your colleague does. I though what I did was high maintenance!

Louisejones11 · 27/09/2016 21:26

Try Urban Decay All nighters fixer spray for hot climates .........then powder during the day! Tied and tested as a makeup artist x

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 27/09/2016 22:10

I never touch up make up. Barely get time to go for a wee and the light in the very small loo is so bad, I wouldn't be able to see anyway!

I used to work nights until recently so any shift that ended without mascara rubbed around my eyes was a massive bonus.

I blot my face with tissue a couple of times a day and re-apply tinted lipbalm about 3 times per day.

I wear make-up every day but don't touch the rest after I've done it in the morning.

Pistachiois50pmore · 20/01/2017 11:11

Maybe reapply lipstick after eating, that's it. Back in the pre-parenthood days when I would go out straight from work a few times a week, I would touch up (i.e. add another layer of) everything as I left, or bump up my lip colour from natural to red. I used to keep toothbrush, wipes etc in my desk. When I was 26-27 and a bit wilder, also a change of clothes just in case I didn't make it home.

Deathraystare · 21/01/2017 08:48

The only thing I normally have to touch up is lipstick -and then only because I like it to look 'fresh'. It normally stays on but we have s/c as well as central heating and it dries my lips up. I left my make up bag at home and really hated to dry gritty feeling I had on my lips. I normally reapply lipstick if using (I may just use gloss or tinted lip balm), top with a balm/gloss.

Jigoku - what waterproof pressed powder do you use?

EmmaWoodlouse · 23/01/2017 16:09

Almost never. The only thing I ever reapply (unless I'm getting completely changed and ready for a night out) is lipstick, but I don't wear it every day, and when I do I often forget about it and don't bother. No-one has ever commented. I know someone at work who is always putting on powder, but I don't really understand why, because it actually looks rather unnatural when she's just done it!

I think your colleague’s routine sounds OTT. Dunno why but the thought of brushing my teeth in a public bathroom (inc at work) makes me want to gag, it’s a bit gross. I have an expensive electric toothbrush and wouldn’t carry that (and floss, toothpaste and mouthwash!) with me everywhere.

Also with deodorant, I do carry it but rarely use it as my deodorant lasts all day. Certainly don’t need to constantly top it up.

I might carry a bottle of perfume with me if I’m going out straight after work, but I have a tendency to waste it by over spritzing so I won’t keep it in my bag generally

halloumi2019 · 16/09/2019 11:54

I touch up makeup when necessary, powder and liquid lipstick mainly. I have quite oily skin so my makeup tends to fade throughout the day as the shine comes through

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 16/09/2019 15:09

This sort of thread always bemuses me as I apply my makeup (concealer, powder, eyebrow powder, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, blusher) before work and it still looks good at the end of the day! I don’t wear lipstick on a normal day though. If I wear lipstick then I touch it up after drinking or eating. I might run a brush through my hair if I’ve been outside and got blown about a bit.

My makeup never leaves the house as I don’t need to do anything with it during the day.... I do use a good primer though so that probably helps.

TantricTwist · 16/09/2019 15:30

Maybe it's an age thing and she just feels she needs to keep up with younger beauties like you OP Grin.

She clearly has hang ups about the way she looks I'd say to be doing all that a few times a day. It is OTT.

Swiftier · 16/09/2019 15:46

At work, if I go out at lunch time I’ll brush my hair when I’m back inside especially if it’s windy/rainy etc. I might put a quick swipe of blush on if mine has faded or a bit of concealer. But I generally don’t worry much.

At my desk I’ll put on hand cream or lip balm (air con leaves both feeling dry so this is more comfort than anything else!)

I don’t wear lipstick day to day, if I wear it on a night out I top it up a couple of times depending on eating/drinking etc and might also add a bit of blush or powder.
