Losing the will to go on.. Sorry, it's another wedding guest outfit plea for help!

So I have tried on so many dresses ( well - probably about 20 - mainly courtesy of asos ) but most have been wrong. I'm about 5'3/5'4, size 8-10, fairly straight up and down, not much of a waist, but pot belly is probably my worst feature ( other than the face and hair ).

I am happy with my arms and legs but as they are not the longest I think I suit knee length or just above.
I found this www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-darcie-jersey-dress/p2543062?colour=Navy but the length was all wrong. I quite liked the neckline and the navy but wasn't all that keen on the ruffle ( but after 3 hours in Westfield I was losing the will to live so bought it anyway out of desperation. )
I have since tried on this www.johnlewis.com/miss-selfridge-embellished-angle-sleeve-dress-ivory/p2743539?&DPSLogout=true&_requestid=18501708 and I quite like it I think. But I have no idea if it's okay as a wedding guest outfit. Plus I have no idea what I could wear over the top should it be chilly ( wedding is at the end of the month ) or what colour heels to get.
I can post a ( headless ) pic of me in it tomorrow should that help or am I barking up the wrong tree entirely? Last wedding I went to was about 3 years ago so have no concept of good outfit/bad outfit.

Thanks Grandma.. I don't think it's going to be a four weddings type wedding...... more of a party and knees up really type celebration I think. I appreciate the compliment...not good at accepting those usually so I normally wear things that don't invite too many compliments!!
twinkle I'm v early 40's
Remus thanks for the link but I'm not overly keen on the print, think it's the floral vibe. Not really me. The khaki I love, and if I wore dresses more often ( linked to the comment above most probably ) that would be up my street I reckon.
Mini thanks for the link. I like the look of those but just not keen on that midi length.

You look fab in the second one Smile

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/07/2016 20:53

The second one really is the best on you by miles. How well do you know the b&g? Would they be likely to object to a guest with gorgeous legs in a very short dress? If not, maybe you should go for it!

bobkate · 06/07/2016 21:20

Smile Thank you - I think I'm going to hang onto number 2 for a bit, see if I can get some heels and a bag and see what the whole get up looks like altogether.
Say I were to go with number 2, could rose gold shoes/accessories work? I don't have any silvery stuff but have a few rose gold bits. Hmmm. This is sooooo not easy. You see I could easily work out what to do with navy or grey but this..I have no idea... Hint hint Smile

I think you should keep dress 2 and 3 - dress 3 may come in handy at a later date and looks lovely on you!

Maybe some tie up heels would look good with number 2? Not sure on colour...

bitofabelly · 06/07/2016 22:41

Hi there...firstly you have a fab figure...secondly...great shoulders for the off the shoulder dress... So no beating yourself up!!! 1st dress is frumpy...love the 2nd dress... if you are not brave enough to wear it to the wedding...keep it for a night out...I think really nice nude courts would work best and would make it less going outey..if you get me....i love the 3rd dress...I would wear it with hot pink shoes....or better again cobalt blue shoes....dune to nice shoes with matching bags...good luck

bobkate · 06/07/2016 22:49

Thank you bit you are v kind Smile I have ordered a few pairs of shoes so I'll see how I get on..watch this space! I'll no doubt be back for a few more opinions Smile

No 2

hecallsmebunny · 07/07/2016 07:45

Another vote for no. 2. I don't think it's too short and I think you really undersold your figure! Great legs!

Twinklestar2 · 07/07/2016 08:14

Update us with pics please!

Hagothehills · 07/07/2016 08:43

Number two by a million miles! I think the beading makes it look a bit more dressy even if the cut isn't a traditional party dress cut. You definitely have the figure for it. Rose gold accessories would look lovely I think and suit your skin tone better than silver. Agree with pp on nude shoes. That or grey to match the beads

SplodgeBear1988 · 07/07/2016 09:22

Number 2, you have the legs for it. I am getting married in September and wouldn't mind anyone coming in a dress that short.

bobkate · 07/07/2016 09:51

Thank you all v much. I have a few pairs coming on order today so will update a bit later on with pics I promise!

Dress 2 by far, looks amazing on you.

Dress 1 is a bit old and dress 3 is gorgeous but for a night out rather than a wedding.

bobkate · 07/07/2016 19:30

A couple more pics for your opinions pretty please.... The cage ones ( if that's the right term? ) actually match quite well I think and are the more comfy of the 2 but I thought I'd show you the other pair that were OK. Disregarding 2 other pairs as they were all wrong.
Also - wondered what you thought of the black jacket over the top...just in case it's really chilly I think I need something lined up.

I don't like the jacket on top. I think a lighter wrap would be better with that dress. Like the shoes.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/07/2016 19:37

Prefer the cage shoes - they don't go desperately well with the jacket though. Having said that, if the jacket is only for a layer for hanging around outdoors, I think it's fine.

3perfectweemen · 07/07/2016 19:39

Shoes are lovely. I actually like both. The jacket is nice too. All put together it really nice. Dress looks so much better on. You have lovely legs for it :)I sound like a dirty old perv lol assure you I'm not

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/07/2016 19:40

The dress doesn't look anywhere near as short in these pics. Did you shrink in the wash? Grin

bobkate · 07/07/2016 19:49

Grin I actually ordered another one as I noticed a couple of the sequins had come away on the first....I think this one is indeedy a weeny bit longer!!! I thought that when I looked at the photos but then decided that was wishful thinking as I had pretty much decided to go with this one. I think I may well measure them both to check I haven't, in fact, shrunk!
Glad you prefer the cage shoes seeing as they are the most comfortable ( and slightly cheaper which is never a bad thing ).
I think the jacket would only be used as you said Remus - I am going to head back to the shops next week to return the shopping centre that seems to be currently residing on the landing so may well keep eyes peeled for something different.
Having said that I wouldn't know what else to look for but maybe something might hit me in the face as I'm mooching about.
Do you think black cage shoes would be better if I went with the black jacket?

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/07/2016 19:55

How do the really high black ones you had on in the initial pics look? As I said though, I doubt anybody would think twice about it, so I'd go with what's comfortable!

bobkate · 07/07/2016 20:06

Good point - I can try those on tomorrow and see. In my pj's now so not going to try it all on again.
I haven't shrunk Grin the second dress is about 2 inches longer Shock I think the top half overhangs more on the first which is where the extra length has come from. Glad I ordered it again now Smile

Bleedin love that on you and the hanger did it no justice. You look fab and the dress is not too short for a wedding by any stretch. Believe me if I had your legs I would wear dresses that short every day of the week.

YorkieDorkie · 07/07/2016 20:17

Absolutely love the second dress and you have fabulous pins - you might as well flaunt them!
