Losing the will to go on.. Sorry, it's another wedding guest outfit plea for help!

So I have tried on so many dresses ( well - probably about 20 - mainly courtesy of asos ) but most have been wrong. I'm about 5'3/5'4, size 8-10, fairly straight up and down, not much of a waist, but pot belly is probably my worst feature ( other than the face and hair ).
I am happy with my arms and legs but as they are not the longest I think I suit knee length or just above.
I found this www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-darcie-jersey-dress/p2543062?colour=Navy but the length was all wrong. I quite liked the neckline and the navy but wasn't all that keen on the ruffle ( but after 3 hours in Westfield I was losing the will to live so bought it anyway out of desperation. )
I have since tried on this www.johnlewis.com/miss-selfridge-embellished-angle-sleeve-dress-ivory/p2743539?&DPSLogout=true&_requestid=18501708 and I quite like it I think. But I have no idea if it's okay as a wedding guest outfit. Plus I have no idea what I could wear over the top should it be chilly ( wedding is at the end of the month ) or what colour heels to get.
I can post a ( headless ) pic of me in it tomorrow should that help or am I barking up the wrong tree entirely? Last wedding I went to was about 3 years ago so have no concept of good outfit/bad outfit.

But the cage ones look great so if they're comfy as well I'd be inclined to quit while you're ahead!

Hobbs had a good sale last week. Some gorgeous shoes reduced right down. I got some silvery ones for the wedding I'm off to soon.

Thanks Remus Smile and twinkle I most def feel happier in the slightly longer version and on thinking about it I think I'll stick to the cage shoes and probably the jacket as I don't intend to wear it for that long and if I don't have to buy anything else that would be not such a bad thing!
Thanks for all your opinions everyone - much appreciated.

Noooooo to a pale coloured pashmina/wrap. Jacket (black as shown or a different one if you really want to buy something) to get to the event and hang around, then off ASAP.

Thanks Bit
Twinkle I'm so confused with all the pics I've posted - do you means the strappy Jimmy Choos ( or a budget version ) with the shorter dress?!

Thank you Fab I don't have any wraps/pashminas at all... those Jimmy Choos are lovely, way too high - waaaaay out of my price bracket! but I'll have a look when I'm hit the shops with all my returns next week. See if there are similar I can try.

Great dress on a great figure!!

Definitely no to the blazer. Do you have a wrap in a bright colour? Like turquoise or fuschia?

And please no Kate Middleton nude heels. Perhaps not the price tag but something simple like these sandals at Jimmy Choo?

Thanks Bit - any ideas of a source for those wraps? I have a pair of nude heels, although they are on the creamy side I'll try those on tomorrow as well. Hadn't really thought of those...

A nude shoe with a hint of grey...not a creamy nude. I also think the black takes from the look

Love the dress on..much better length...I really don't like those caged shoes...I'm sorry but they feel slightly frumpy....they are a bit fussy looking as there is already such detail in the dress...would you not go for simple and elegant..something like this?

Ooh you look fab! Jacket is fine for if chilly, but don't hide in it! Your shoulders also look amazing in the third dress but the second for a summer wedding is perfect. Have a lovely time!

Absolutely love the second dress and you have fabulous pins - you might as well flaunt them!

Bleedin love that on you and the hanger did it no justice. You look fab and the dress is not too short for a wedding by any stretch. Believe me if I had your legs I would wear dresses that short every day of the week.

Good point - I can try those on tomorrow and see. In my pj's now so not going to try it all on again.
I haven't shrunk Grin the second dress is about 2 inches longer Shock I think the top half overhangs more on the first which is where the extra length has come from. Glad I ordered it again now Smile

How do the really high black ones you had on in the initial pics look? As I said though, I doubt anybody would think twice about it, so I'd go with what's comfortable!

Report
bobkate · 07/07/2016 19:49

Grin I actually ordered another one as I noticed a couple of the sequins had come away on the first....I think this one is indeedy a weeny bit longer!!! I thought that when I looked at the photos but then decided that was wishful thinking as I had pretty much decided to go with this one. I think I may well measure them both to check I haven't, in fact, shrunk!
Glad you prefer the cage shoes seeing as they are the most comfortable ( and slightly cheaper which is never a bad thing ).
I think the jacket would only be used as you said Remus - I am going to head back to the shops next week to return the shopping centre that seems to be currently residing on the landing so may well keep eyes peeled for something different.
Having said that I wouldn't know what else to look for but maybe something might hit me in the face as I'm mooching about.
Do you think black cage shoes would be better if I went with the black jacket?
