New haircut but now I'm so grey (pics inc)

I've just had a new haircut and I'm fairly pleased. I didn't have time for a colour and the side that is very short has a load of grey through it where all the highlights were cut out. Any recommendations for a good box colour I can plonk on top of this to give it a nicer colour and (honest opinions please) is the short side too short? It all feels a bit lopsided although it's kinda what I had in mind.

Or should I wait and have it salon coloured? What colour though?

Looks lovely. I don't think it needs any colour.

MrsChrisPratt · 18/06/2016 15:47

It looks lovely! Really suits your face. I wouldn't bother with a colour, but that's me. Totally up to you of course!

BigginsforPope · 18/06/2016 15:47

No you don't look like a bloke. Your hair is fab!
(Sorry no colour recommendations though.)

Oh I love your hair, you look fab and you have a lovely face. What shade of lipstick are you wearing? also fab

Allthesegreys · 18/06/2016 15:50

Ok thanks, it's good to have honest opinions. I like it from the longer side but when I saw the side on short side my heart sank. Can't believe how dull and greyish my hair looks that side. Getting older sucks!

Don't ruin it with a block of colour- it looks great. Much more fashionable to have that kind of many toned hair than box dye jobey ( in my city anyway)
Looks lovely

Allthesegreys · 18/06/2016 15:52

The lipstick is maybelline 24hr super stay in hot coral. They are great lipsticks, really last and last all day. I put this on at 10am this morning.

I really like the look from the front, but I do think the short side is very severe.

If it were me I'd leave it a couple of weeks and live with it as it is and then reconsider how I felt about it. I wouldn't colour it myself. I'd go back to a Salon and have a few more highlights put in so that both sides of the cut were a bit more connected iyswim.

Sorry if that sounds a bit mean. I think you're going to love it once you've tweaked the look a little bit.

Cocolepew · 18/06/2016 15:56

I think it looks great too, I dont think the side is too severe, its supposed to be short.
You look fab.

Fairylea · 18/06/2016 15:56

Honestly I think it looks great and I wouldn't colour it. The natural highlights you have in it now look much more modern.

I actually think having the side short like that makes it look much more feminine and modern as opposed to a more 90s feathered / layered look. I love it.

Allthesegreys · 18/06/2016 15:56

Enrique that's exactly what I think, the sides are so very different and look disconnected as you say now that the colour is cut out. I'm going away in 4 weeks so I think I'll book in again for a colour and a tidy up before I go. I'll have to live with it until then. You've all convinced me not to colour it myself now anyway so thank you, I was thinking it may have helped to even it all out a bit but I'll wait because I'll only ending up ruining it!

I love it! It really suits you, it probably feels very short but it actually looks really nice and is quite a feminine style.

I wouldn't colour it but have used casting semi-permanent before with good results. My hair is dark though and not highlighted so quite different to yours. The colour looks fine though!

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 18/06/2016 16:01

Yes, get the appointment made and by then you'll have a good idea of how you style it yourself.

It doesn't really matter what other people say, it's how you feel about it that really counts. You've got plenty of time for it to settle before the holiday and to work out what you want to just refine it a bit more to your taste, but definitely don't block colour it.

MadisonAvenue · 18/06/2016 16:01

That really does suit you! You look lovely!
I'm just on the bus on the way home from the hairdressers after having the tiniest bit cut off the ends as I'm growing out the style you've just had. I've looked at your pics and now have hair envy though!

BathshuaSpooner · 18/06/2016 16:06

You look fab! When I see a cut like this I get tempted to cut off my hair. I think you look very feminine and not like a bloke at all!!

Allthesegreys · 18/06/2016 16:06

Madison I was also growing my hair....I lost the plot with it this morning though and called a salon ive never been to before with excellent reviews and thankfully managed to get a cancellation.

Young girl was lovely who cut my hair, I told her I wanted something modern and easy to manage and at 43 I was not to look mumsy!

The initial feeling was wow closely followed by a glance in the mirror in Boots and thought jeez, I look like a man from the side!

😂

It looks really nice - you have a pretty face. You do not look like a boy

I agree with you that they've cut it too short on the short side, but it will grow really quickly.

I would not go back to that hairdresser - i have had short hair for years and some people just don't really know how to cut it skilfully enough

No-one else will notice it if you don't point it out

Honestly, I think the colour is great

ExtraHotLatteToGo · 18/06/2016 16:16

I think the third photo looks lovely 😊

The short side I think would look better a little more layered, she's cut it in a very 'short back & sides' way that's not terribly stylish. Goid news being it'll be a great length in 4 weeks to tweak it before your holiday.

It's certainly far from 'growing it out' Grin

prettywhiteguitar · 18/06/2016 16:17

I think it's great the short side is perfect as you need it for contrast, don't mess with it !! 👠
