How much did you spend on your wedding dress? Any regrets?

As the title says.

I ask because this is my dream dress:

annacampbell.worldsecuresystems.com/dresses/spirit/madison-silk-tulle

The wedding is going to be a boho sort of ceremony abroad and I just love this dress. I am not sure I want to be spending nearly two grand on the dress though as that is the same price as the wedding package!

Did you spend a lot and find it was absolutely worth it? Or more importantly, did you spend a minimal amount on the dress and feel amazing?

Any links to cheaper alternatives for a boho kind of feel would be great. I am a size 8-10 but I have a mum tum so skin tight would not be great. Temperature is going to be about 30 so not even sure on what fabric I should be going for. Help?

I spend about £150 and wish I had spent more. I skimped a bit on dress/flowers/pampering in order to offer more alcohol to guest and with hindsight wish I had made a bit more of a fuss of myself.

MangosteenSoda · 22/06/2016 06:19

Haven't rtft but want to say that dress is stunning!!

It looks like it could be professionally dyed afterwards, so you could wear it as a special occasion dress.

However, if it's too much money then it's not worth it. There are lots of lovely dresses out there.

Skiingmaniac · 22/06/2016 06:25

My dress cost £1,000 (12 years ago) but I sold it 2 weeks after the wedding for £650! So not as bad as it sounds. I regret the marriage but not the dress 😊

Mablethorpe · 22/06/2016 06:34

I think mine was £900 14 years ago. DMs mother of the bride outfit cost £150 more!Confused

£950 10 years ago and think it was worth it as when I look at the pics I still love it. You will end up spending the money on something else (probably forgettable) anyway so if you really want it, then go for it. It is a beautiful dress.

Lilacpink40 · 22/06/2016 08:34

I spent £100 on a graceful white bridesmaid dress with extras in a good sale - we were fixing our house and had booked an expensive venue, so I wanted to spend less on the outfit. That was decades ago when my figure didn't need so much support. I don't regret it.

Even though we split up I loved the fun of the day!

UhtredRagnorsson · 22/06/2016 12:05

£300 including having it taken in. It was a sample. This was 19 years ago so it wasn't as cheap as it sounds - but it was pretty cheap (I was expecting to have to spend at least £600) I have no regrets at all it was exactly what I wanted. Plain and simple and it fitted me. And it came from a proper wedding shop. And was recognisably a wedding dress while at the same time being completely non standard (because no lace, and not a meringue). I wanted a clean silhouette, and o not look like the fiary on top of the tree, I wanted simple lines, and I got all that. It was great.

FashionLover1 · 22/06/2016 12:11

I bought two dresses. One was tailored made (spent about £600-700) and another bought at Phase Eight (spent £350). You can check here how it really looked on me :)

QueenofallIsee · 22/06/2016 12:35

houseeveryweekend · 22/06/2016 12:38

Hopefully i will make it in 3 months, if not am going to be going down the aisle in something i buy from H&M haha! Your dress is lovely in the pics, very glamorous! x

Pisssssedofff · 22/06/2016 15:00

Lots and lots of protein and weights house

FashionLover1 · 06/07/2016 10:35

I would recommend to check Forever Unique if you are looking for a wedding dress under £500, as an example this gorgeous dress would be really suitable for wedding and it's just £455.

ImSoVeryTired · 06/07/2016 10:46

It is lovely but if you don't want to spend that much, could you find a really good dressmaker, take a photo and see if they could make it. Apologies if anyone else has suggested it already, I didn't read all the pp.

Oly5 · 06/07/2016 22:21

That dress is incredibly beautiful! One of the nicest I've seen.
Have you been to a seamstress to see if you could have it made for cheaper?

KindDogsTail · 06/07/2016 22:35

This one is a little similar with a little of a Bohemian style for a quarter of the money Flanjabell

EmmaWoodlouse · 07/07/2016 15:08

I think I spent £190 (it was 1989). It was a cream Laura Ashley wedding dress with rosebuds made of the same fabric at the waist on the back. I don't actively regret it, it was quite a nice dress, but a few years later I saw a dress in Monsoon that would have been perfect as a wedding dress for me. It wasn't officially a wedding dress at all but it was cream, had loads of beading and embroidery and was a sort of straight-up-and-down 20s shape. I hadn't got a very well-defined waist and I think it was probably a mistake to cram myself into such an hourglassy dress - it looked OK in the photos but I would definitely have felt more at home in something not quite so fitted.

DrRanjsRightEyebrow · 07/07/2016 15:10

Op - check out bhldn.com. lots of cheaper boho dresses...

EmmaWoodlouse · 07/07/2016 15:10

PS - the dress you like is beautiful! I literally couldn't afford that much even now, but if I could, I might consider it!

minipie · 07/07/2016 15:47

Shock DrRanj there are some absolutely wonderful dresses on bhldn.

I'm wondering if I can engineer another wedding somehow ...

Lules · 07/07/2016 15:52

Mine was about £1200. I don't regret it all. It was beautiful and fit me perfectly. I never spend much money on clothes so it was lovely to do that once. I do know friends who've spent £5000+ and I do think that's a bit mad though

DeliveredByKiki · 07/07/2016 15:54

Mine was designed and made for me for total cost of £250, which included materials etc

Is it worth you looking down that route? We just got a dress maker recommendation from the alternations dept in our local debengams and she was amazing

newlabelwriter · 07/07/2016 15:57

Have you looked at Minna.co.uk - they have lots of very pretty, 'boho' type dresses and not so expensive. Oh and I spent about £450 on mine - www.minna.co.uk/blog/jessica-raine-wearing-our-johanna-dress
