How much did you spend on your wedding dress? Any regrets?

As the title says.

I ask because this is my dream dress:

annacampbell.worldsecuresystems.com/dresses/spirit/madison-silk-tulle

The wedding is going to be a boho sort of ceremony abroad and I just love this dress. I am not sure I want to be spending nearly two grand on the dress though as that is the same price as the wedding package!

Did you spend a lot and find it was absolutely worth it? Or more importantly, did you spend a minimal amount on the dress and feel amazing?

Any links to cheaper alternatives for a boho kind of feel would be great. I am a size 8-10 but I have a mum tum so skin tight would not be great. Temperature is going to be about 30 so not even sure on what fabric I should be going for. Help?

I got most of my outfit from eBay - £22 for a silk retro/vintage full circle 1950s style dress, tenner on shoes, fiver on bag...spent most on a Vivienne of Holloway full puff petticoat. I felt fantastic! And I've worn the dress a good few times since. Spent most of the money for the wedding on food and booze which went down very well with the guests.

It's a lovely dress flan, but a awful lot for one day.

My dress was £39 and just gorgeous.
I had a beach wedding too.
I organised it all myself.
The whole wedding for 25 guests came in at under 1000 ....euros.

Fabulos day. DH wore white trousers, white shirt and a white deck shoe. He looked lovely.

We all did our own make up and hair and nails. Wedding was at 7pm

Still red hot.

I think your dress is gorgeous & i wouldn't hesitate to say get it. I didn't find a dream dress, only a compromise dress & I always regretted it ever since.

VenusRising · 19/10/2016 12:17

That looks like a bodice with a tulle skirt to me.

Find a sparkly top you like and that fits you and have a tulle skirt attached- or sew a few IKEA net curtains on to one yourself. Or get a ballet dress in your local dance shop. You can dye the tulle with tea if it's too white.

My wedding dress was a grey knitted cashmere/ silk polo neck, as we wed in a registry office. I got it for 60£ on a sale.

Tbh the dress isn't important, who you're marrying is.

£2010 Blush

I told everyone it was £1800, not sure why as that's not a huge difference, but I felt i had spent 'too much' even though it was ok in our budget.

I was mulling it over when I found £10 blowing down the street with nobody else around, I took it as a sign and decided to go for it (completely non woo event interpreted for my own desires!)

I believe it is about how you feel in the dress. Being of short stature and small frame myself, every dress I tried other than the one I bought didn't look great on me. I felt so comfortable and glamorous in the one that I bought, which was why I allowed myself the extravagance.

I was and am happy with it, love the photos, have been married for 4 years and have no regrets spending that on the dress.

That being said, if it had led to compromising on say the venue, food, drinks or entertainment then I wouldn't have spent it. We were in a fortunate position where family were contributing to wedding costs, we had no children at the time and therefore had more disposable income than we do now. If I was planning my wedding now I wouldn't have been able to justify spending the money and would have settled for something that I felt less comfortable in.

LadyMumble · 19/10/2016 12:24

I've just realised this is zombie thread! I'm sure you probably made the decision months ago so never mind. If you've already had your day I hope it was marvellous and that whatever dress you chose to wear you felt fabulous in.

princessconsuelabannahammock · 19/10/2016 12:31

6 years ago I paid £120 for mine from China- bought only from photos. Could have been very risky but it was a perfect dress for me and really well made.

Due to circumstances I only wore it for 4 hrs and then the cat pissed on it! ( months later not whilst I was wearing it!)

I am glad I spent so little on it, I still felt amazing and had enough money to spend it where I felt was more important - honeymoon and reception!

purplefizz26 · 19/10/2016 12:33

£650, and I absolutely adored it.

I don't think I could justify spending any more than that for one day. It felt wrong spending that much!

selfishcrab · 19/10/2016 12:35

2k and regret it, but only had 6 weeks and felt the shop and my Mum rushed me.
It wasn't 'the one' which was 1k as apparently I'd left it late!
Try dresses even ones that you wouldn't normal look at.

cheekyfunkymonkey · 19/10/2016 12:36

It really depends on your budget. I spent t £800 and if I was to do it all over again I would get one second hand or on sale. Everything about the day is such a big deal before you get married and afterwards you wonder why. If you can afford it great, but if it's a stretch I would save the cash for something else!

soyvanillalatte · 19/10/2016 12:37

I had a skirt and blouse bought online from next as I had little time and a small baby. The cost may have been £70 all up.
Regrets?
Yes, I wish I had word a wedding dress and my guilty pleasure is looking at wedding dress pictures online.

soyvanillalatte · 19/10/2016 12:39

worn that is

Kel1234 · 19/10/2016 12:41

I went to a bridal boutique, my dress was £1400, a pure white strapless princess ballgown with sweetheart neckline and chapel length train. The veil was a white chapel length two tier veil, which was £150. Then I spent £100 for alterations on the dress. It was everything I dreamed of.
Id say if you want it go for it.

MaidOfStars · 20/10/2016 13:40

£5600. It was, and still is, the most beautiful piece of clothing I've ever worn. I don't regret a penny of it.

Kel1234 · 20/10/2016 15:37

I think if you know you can afford to spend the money, and are willing to pay that much for a dress you will never wear again, then why not.
Though I can also see why some people refuse to spend a lot on a dress for one day.
For me it was easy, I knew exactly what I wanted, and tried on two dresses, and got the second one o tried. Ironically, when I was looking on the website at the style dress I knew I wanted, I looked at the options available, and saw one and thought no, not that one. I tried it on in the shop anyway, fell in love with it and got it. Moral of the story, don't go just by a picture, as they can be very deceiving. I didn't like my dress in the pictures, but once I saw the dress and had it on, I knew that was the one.
(I'd post a pic but I don't know how to blur out my face)

imjessie · 20/10/2016 16:32

that's an amazing dress !buy it!

Dozer · 20/10/2016 16:37

Mine was £600, and yes I regretted spending that much for something only worn once and damaged (dirty floors).

SeasonalVag · 20/10/2016 17:15

Bought mine online, like I got my husband online. More thought went into the husband than the frock though :)

It was reduced from 599 to 200. We put comparatively little time into our wedding, but as I say to my horrified mum, you'd rather watch a happy marriage than a perfect wedding.....

This is the perfect time to shop for a good deal. Good luck op.

QueenLizIII · 20/10/2016 17:33

I looks like a Monsoon ordinary dress and not worth £2000.

How about this: uk.monsoon.co.uk/view/product/uk_catalog/mon_14.3/7457114606?dclid=CMvP8_Dm6c8CFbau7QodEiwDbQ

maggiethemagpie · 20/10/2016 21:48

£400 and loved every minute in it.

Had it made into a cushion afterwards for £80 (It was a heavily beaded/embellished dress so suited to it) so I still get to use it every day.

MrsFogi · 20/10/2016 22:01

£2800 and then £350 to clean it after the wedding Shock - looking back it was ridiculous (although it was a truly amazing dress). If only I had been a little more sensible in my high-earning youth and put all that money spent on the wedding into paying off my mortgage (now that I earn way less and have many more outgoings!). I think the most sensible brides are those who buy from a well-known name and then sell it after the day. I have a dress that can never be worn again taking up room in my attic.

SueTrinder · 20/10/2016 22:46

I spent £1200 over 15 years ago. Felt like a fortune although we could afford it. My Mum was officially paying for it but I lied about the price (she wasn't with me when I bought it) because I thought it was too much for her to pay so I paid the extra and swore my friends who were with me to secrecy. I spilt drink down it at the reception that the dry cleaning didn't remove so couldn't sell it on. But it was so pretty but not as good value as DH's suit that he had made by a Savile Row tailor. It still fits and looks amazing and funnily enough he's had far more wear out of it than I got out of my dress. TBH my biggest regret is that I didn't wear white DMs to get married in.

I think for a beach wedding I'd want something that was ankle length or shorter and I'm not sure I'd want to spend an absolute fortune. But I'm now in my 40s and very bah humbug about weddings, they cost everyone a fortune don't they.

Hellochicken · 26/10/2016 13:12

Mine was £500 second hand dress. I loved it and looked the best I ever have on the day, but I do feel a bit guilty about the expense. I could easily afford 2k but just find it hard to justify for 1 day. I really don't think I would have looked better in a more expensive dress.

I did pay to have my teeth whitened (which to me was worth every penny!)
