High end make up that is actually worth the money?

I'm having a no-spend Summer and saving up my Boots points, so I'm planning to get some nice make-up in the Autumn. I will be in the market for lipstick, lipgloss, powder and maybe foundation.

I have some MAC lipsticks (which are mid-range rather than high-end I know) and while the colour range is great, I'm not wildly impressed with their lasting or hydrating power. Possible brands I'm looking at for the future are Chanel, YSL, NARS, Estee Lauder. For lip products I'm looking for decent lasting power, no bleeding or travelling, decent hydration or at least a non-drying formula. For foundation, I have dry and dehydrated skin so I'm looking for a glowy radiant finish which lasts well through the day.

High street make up products have really upped their game in the last few years. I have had great success with some high street products (Rimmel foundation, Revlon lipsticks, Sleek blushers for example) so I'm wondering if it is worth forking out for £25 lipsticks and £30 foundations at all.

Foundation for me is high end all the way.
Ive pretty much tried every foundation in my local superdrug and not got on with any of them.
I love Estée Lauder double wear and Giorgio Armarni luminous silk. Becca also do a gorgeous foundation primer for dewy radiant skin it's amazing but I got mine from QVC and it's not available at boots.
Lipsticks, I have a huge range of, from high end to really cheap. I quite like the kate moss line of lipsticks by Rimmel but don't rate the NYX ones I have tried.
Mrs Gloss and the Goss on facebook is fab for make up advice.

I love Bobbi Brown stuff, they have a brow shaper that is amazing and the colours are subtler than Rimmel equivalents imo.

Otherwise I'd only bother with posh stuff for lipstick as the cheap ones make my lips sore. I have a red Chanel lippy for rare nights out that will last 10 years at this rate

Foundation is high end for me too, Chanel vitalumiere or aqua vitalumiere.
High street for the rest

I've tried so many foundations recently and can't beat dior.

Foundation for me is always Estée Lauder

I've tried maybelline & other cheaper brands but it's a waste of money as I always chuck them in the bin!

For older I kike Clinique & my fave lipsticks are Chanel

For mascara and other eye make up I find max factor or maybelline as good as anything else

For powder FFS!

I go high end for foundation and eyeshadows but will buy drugstore for everything else.

A good match in foundation is hard to find if you aren't colour matched, but if you're happy with what you've got, why change it?

I agree too. Foundation or makeup base, high-end. The rest, drugstore.

That said, I have never met a foundation, high-end or otherwise, that my oily face does not eat up in two hours.

I spend on Clinique foundation and mascara, it's worth the money. Cheapy eyebrow pencils, lip stuff, nail varnish etc. Eyeshadow could go either way. If I were investing in one high end product only, definitely foundation.

People who love drugstore lipsticks and lipgloss - which brands do you rate?

Bourgeois is pretty good for glosses IMO.

Another vote for Chanel vitalumiere - makes you look glowy and dewy and lasts really well. I also have dry/dehydrated skin and it's the one I've found that doesn't sit/cake/flake.

Nars

Chanel foundation but Dior Concealor.

Dior and Chanel eyeshadows are fab - they stay in place all day.
I also rate Dior blusher and lipstick.

Everything else I get from Benefit/High street.

CoolToned try the Chanel perfect lumiere one. It's good. Get a sample before you buy tho.

Bobbi brown foundation, Charlotte tilbury or urban decay eye shadow, Mac strobe cream.

Recently bought a chantecaille eyeshadow (Space NK) and it is amazing! Beautiful colour, very intense pigmentation and stays put all day. Hideously expensive though.

Luminous Silk by Armani is definitely one of the best foundations out there too.

I only like high end lipsticks. The three I use over and over are from Estée Lauder, mac and Bobbi Brown. Maybe it's because you can try before you buy and you can get advice on what suits you but every lipstick I have ever chosen off the shelf hasn't been right.

Not a lipstick person, although when I was I liked Rimmel, but I've had some lovely Bourjois glosses in my time. They're at the pricier side of the Boots/Superdrug market but not 'high end'.

I've been using Bourjois City Radiance for the past couple of weeks and I'm not impressed - looks lovely and glowy for the first couple of hours, then goes dry and accentuates flaky bits. Didn't get on with their Healthy Mix foundation either. This is making me wonder if I need to avoid Chanel, as HM is often compared to Vitalumiere

OP, drugstore lipsticks I've liked-
Rimmel - very happy with colour range, good staying power and not dry. I have a red Kate Moss one which is very drying though.
Revlon lip butters - great everyday product.
Revlon lip stain in the chubby crayon design
L'oreal liquid lipstick - love this very moisturising.

This is a grea thread - I'm especially interested in the more premium foundation recommendations.

Is 'drugstore' chemist / high street as we'd say in the UK - e.g. Boots?
