Help - I have no idea but posh meal out

Ok, firstly I'll admit that this board scares me. I have never been comfortable with clothes and have no natural sense of style. I usually wear very boring black trousers and boring top for work (occasionally dress and jacket) or jeans and t shirt outside of work. Both almost like a uniform. I am a size 22 with nice boobs but an awful belly. I cannot wear heels unless they are chunky and less than 2 inches.

Ok, so I am going out to Le Gavroche for dinner soon for a meal we have saved a while for. I would like to feel special but also comfortable.

Any ideas?!?! Thanks in advance.

Oooh I hope he's there! He comes out for a chat if he is Grin don't forget to take a menu with you as well. The cheese soufflé to start is amazing but quite rich so pace yourself!

Liiinoo · 17/06/2016 08:51

You look lovely. It's a great outfit and the shoes are perfect with it.

}I hope you enjoy your meal as much as I have enjoyed this thread.

bakeoffcake · 17/06/2016 08:52

You must update us tomorrowSmile

mountaintoclimb · 17/06/2016 08:59

I've dined at Gavroche and many other 'top' restaurants and although I have dressed nicely I've never felt any pressure to get hair, make up done. I would treat like any night out, party

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 17/06/2016 09:08

Oh yes! That outfit is awesome, you look fantastic! Have a great night out.

FrankUnderwoodsWife · 17/06/2016 09:13

mountaintoclimb OP wrote that she wanted to feel special, and obviously dining at the Gavroche is a big deal to her, hence asking for opinions on what to do and wear.

Good for you, on getting the opportunity to dine out at these places often, and not feel the need to make the most of yourself. For others it's an occasion to celebrate and be celebrated.

FeckinCrutches · 17/06/2016 09:14

But Mountain to a lot of people going out to a 'top' restaurant is a huge treat or sometimes even a one off. People want to feel and look their absolute best.

FeckinCrutches · 17/06/2016 09:14

X post Frank Grin

mountaintoclimb · 17/06/2016 09:17

I was trying to reassure the op that it wasnt necessary to get too anxious about it, that's all.

FrankUnderwoodsWife · 17/06/2016 10:15

Thanks for clarifying that mountain, I wasn't being eggy towards you.

I don't think the OP was anxious about dining at a venue like the Gavroche, more that this is such a lovely treat, she wanted to honour it accordingly.

Anyway the posotive outcome is that she now has an outfit she looks and feels great in, will therefore be comfortable, so can relax and enjoy her dinner.

HeyMacWey · 17/06/2016 11:58

You look lovely - have a wonderful time!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/06/2016 16:12

Looks great - have fun!

LondonSpoon · 17/06/2016 19:09

I briefly looked at this thread before but can I say in your final outfit you look really lovely. Have a great dinner :)

Asuitablemum · 17/06/2016 21:49

You look awesome, have a fantastic time.

GeorgeTheThird · 17/06/2016 21:57

The final outfit is lovely.
I also liked the first two dresses.
Take the last dress back!

Tattieboggle · 17/06/2016 22:06

You look bloody fabulous and I wish I'd had the courage pages back to suggest you had a look at Box2. They do very similar tops to what you're wearing and I had something very much like the one you are wearing in mind for you. They also do nice trousers and skirts.

I hope you have a great time. Wine

^ Yes that sums it up perfectly.

Thank you all for your help, thanks to you all I felt great, not underdressed or overdressed but had made an effort outside my usual jeans uniform.

All dresses have now been returned for those who asked.

We had a lovely evening, Michel was there and had a chat. Food was perfectly done but a fair bit not to my taste. I debated not having the tasting menu but wanted to eat with DH. So that was a slight shame but didn't spoil the evening.

Thanks again

Isn't he lovely? So glad you had a nice time. I had to swop a couple of my things as I wasn't keen.

AmberNectarine · 18/06/2016 11:52

I'm a Londoner born and bred and I always wear a glam dress when fine dining, so I refute the claims that eyebrows would be raised!

However, if you're more comfortable in trousers they would be entirely appropriate too.

AmberNectarine · 18/06/2016 11:54

Sorry, have now RTFT and seen your chose outfit! Love that top, very glam without being outside your comfort zone, perfect!

PolitelyDisagree · 18/06/2016 12:09

What a lovely thread. I thought the outfit you chose was the best by miles. You looked lovely.

bakeoffcake · 18/06/2016 12:16

So glad you had a lovely time!
