Help - I have no idea but posh meal out

Ok, firstly I'll admit that this board scares me. I have never been comfortable with clothes and have no natural sense of style. I usually wear very boring black trousers and boring top for work (occasionally dress and jacket) or jeans and t shirt outside of work. Both almost like a uniform. I am a size 22 with nice boobs but an awful belly. I cannot wear heels unless they are chunky and less than 2 inches.

Ok, so I am going out to Le Gavroche for dinner soon for a meal we have saved a while for. I would like to feel special but also comfortable.

Any ideas?!?! Thanks in advance.

That top is by far the nicest and most flattering outfit you've posted. You look fab! It'd work with dark skinnies - try some, you never know. I bet they'd look great on.

Try the skinnies! Try the skinnies! I am a size 18 and it took me a while to try them but now I wear them all the time. They are very flattering with a floaty top.

Top is lovely. I think it would be great with white skinnies and some nice heels. It looks much younger/funkier than the other looks.

The top looks nice but the trousers are too wide. Plain black, straight or narrow leg jeans would be good with it. I don't like the idea of white - I think you'd look and feel 'sleeker' and smarter in black.

Another vote for the top, with dark indigo skinnies or cigarette pants. And red shoes!

I think I need either very dark blue or black skinnies. Time is too short to order online now as we go on Friday.

I do have some black jeans as a standby but they are not very skinny.

Work permitting, I should get an hour tomorrow when I can go to a smallish shopping centre. Fingers crossed!

I'd take it back personally and spend the money on the best possible jeans you can get, which will make you feel great. will you have any shopping time in London to look for some?

I agree with Poly. Spend the money on a pair of jeans that make you feel good - you'll get far more wear out of those than out of a maxi dress, I think.

Do you fancy taking a pic in your existing black jeans, with the shoes you want to wear? I bet you'll be really pleased!

One warning - don't wear perfume.
Easy to overdo for an evening and mortifying to waft perfume in a restaurant.

I love the black and white top and second people saying wear with skinny black or white jeans and a great pair of heels.

That top takes at least 10 years off you in comparison to the other pics - you don't look like the same person! (I had to check!)

And are you really sure you are a 22?! You look an 18 in the early pictures and smaller in that top.

The turquoise top black pants combo are my least favourite, not special or flattering (sorry). The long black and white dress gives great shape but it looks a little dated in style.

In the absence of time to go anywhere else, if you're desperate, Sainsburys do some very dark blue jeggings that would work with the top. Apologies of they don't go up to a size 20, but I think they do?

Aldo they're so bloody cheap that you could get yourself some new heels too. I know, I know I can't believe I'm suggesting wearing Sainsburys clothes to Le Gavroche, but I think you'll more than get away with it with that gorgeous top nicking the attention.

Ok, so I hated skinny jeans and jeggings on. Both felt like something I should wear to the gym or yoga rather than out.

I did buy a very slim pair of trousers though. Second picture is just to show they are slim trousers honest!

Jewellery not in the pic but I have a lovely necklace and bracelet to wear. Shoes are also not done up properly!

All dresses have been sent back now too.
