Anyone tried that St Tropez in-shower gradual tan....any good?

I am not only pasty but don't tan. Seriously, I can sit in the sun with my SPF 30 and I am the same colour when I leave my holiday destination as I am on arrival. Actually, I use self tan before going away ^but all
Ways make a pig's ear of it^ so, I actually come home paler and patchy. Nice.

I'm off to Italy in the summer and just want to not go stripey and come back the same. Is the shower St Tropez worth the cash?

Honestly it's bloody awful!

I tried it when it first came out and despite standing in the cold, mid shower to apply and let set it did absolutely nothing, I tried it for about a week before I gave up.

I've been using the Clarins tanning drops this year and they're excellent. You just mix 4 to 6 drops with your normal body moisturiser and rub it in. No streaks so far!

Not worth the money IMO, it didn't really work for me and came out patchy. It's horrible having to stand in the cold dripping waiting to shower it off! May be better to invest in a good quality gradual tanner instead .

I didn't like it.

I found it really easy to use. Ok, the standing there for 3 mins wasn't great but I used to time to tidy the bathroom and comb conditioner through my hair. I used the light one and had a nice even glow after two applications.

It isn't popular on here but I like it, it builds up gradually on me and I've never had streaks, unlike things like dove. I'm very pale skinned and never tan at all. You do have to stand in the shower but I don't see that's any worse than letting the other type sink in before getting dressed, and it doesn't come off on your clothes.

I really like it. It is very subtle though. So I'm going to get the new darker one and see what that is like. My legs rarely tan while the rest of me does . So I used it all over and then used it just on my legs on holiday along with Boots Protect and Tan sun screen (just on my legs, Ultrasun on my top half). I came home from holiday with a light all over tan.

Pale skinned strawberry blonde here. I like it, it's the only thing that doesn't look orange on me.

I didn't rate it. Used it religiously every day for over a week and there was just the tiniest difference to my pasty skin. Bought it when it was on 3 for 2 in Boots and am now stuck with two unused tubes.

I liked it. Sometimes it worked excellently in terms of giving me good colour, and other times not so much. I guess I was inconsistent about leaving it on for long enough or maybe I hadn't fully cleansed my skin in the shower so it didn't 'take' as much.

You have to rinse it properly or it's patchy. If you've washed your hair too, be careful not to let it drip during the 3 minutes the lotion is on.

Less of a faff than waiting for regular self tan to sink in.

I always recommend rimmels instant tan (light) it's the wash off jobbie but I always get compliments when I wear it and it is so easy to apply and has never streaked.

Not what you are asking but I found my normal St Tropez application improved massively once I started to use a tanning mit. I had previously used latex gloves. Just mentioning should that help you.

Haven't used it - however I'd like to recommend garnier summer body moisturiser which I really rate for pale skin. Also cocoa brown fake tan is surprisingly ok and not tooooo much of a pain to apply and wait for.

Thanks for the many replies! It seems like a faff but, I may just try one tube in the darker shade. The reviews of the light one are poor.

While we're on the subject, any recommendations for a gradual tan? I hated Dove. Garner Summer Body very orangey on me. And despite exfoliation, stripey, at times.

I also hate the dove one and find the Garnier one not quite the right tone. My favourite gradual tan is the medium-dark St Tropez one (I'm very fair skinned but I like the hit of colour from the m-d rather than light one). It looks natural on me and leaves my skin really soft. Does smell a little though.

My sister really rates the Palmers Cocoa Butter one.

The other brand I love is St Moritz which is a cheapy one but has always done me well. Think that's non-gradual though.

I've heard v good things about the Clarins one mentioned up thread.

Didn't like it. I froze in the shower for the few minutes you're supposed to leave it on before rinsing and got a load of the stuff all over my feet which looked awful. I've tried it a few times but got no better at it. Won't be buying again I'm afraid.

I just bought the new dark version on the in shower and it's much better than the original one, 1 application gave me a sun kissed colour. Less faff than lotions and pretty fool proof.

I like it but you have to wash it off really well- use a flannel or sponge (are they still a thing?) or something. Don't just rinse or you'll be super streaky.

Ooh really Susan? Is it a much deeper colour than the original?

Yes, I've got one. I think it's the Garnier one. It's fine- gives a decent colour and a nice matte finish, doesn't budge during the day. Better off applying with a mitt or gloves than bare hands I think, and I've had a few incidents where it's been hard to correct streaks. I think i prefer the Sally Hansen Airbrush legs (a spray can) which isn't just for legs.
