Wedding guest - floor length dress

shiftkey · 30/05/2016 10:38

I've been invited to a wedding that has a black tie dress code.

I'm looking for some inspiration as to where to shop online for a full length dress. I have no clue!

I'm on quite a budget which isn't helping. Size 12, 5'6" with 35" leg. Oh and it can't be grey (even though I love a grey dress!) as bridesmaids are in this.

I might lose the will to live if I google "floor length wedding guest dress" one more time.

Have they specified floor length? A lot of people now tend to interpret black tie to include shorter dresses so long as they are of a formal style - so cocktail dresses or similar.

shiftkey · 30/05/2016 10:49

Yes - a mutual friend who knows the bride better than I do has clarified. Bride and groom are expecting tuxedos for men and floor length for women.

Coast and asos are your friends! What's your budget? Do you want sleeves or no sleeves?

CodyKing · 30/05/2016 10:54

Can we ask if you have boobs?

Paulat2112 · 30/05/2016 10:54

what sort of budget?

othgraph · 30/05/2016 10:55

Asos has quite a few and there's 20% off today on everything with the code yesplease
this?

shiftkey · 30/05/2016 10:56

I'd like to say £50 but I think I'll be seriously pushing it. Maybe £80. I'll probably still struggle to get something nice though?

I quite like the look of sleeves but not sure if it would be wise in July? I can't do strapless, Bardot, sweetheart etc necklines - far too broad!

Thank you for the suggestions.

How tight of a budget?
You can get some reasonable priced stuff from Coast sometimes. Theres always Monsoon sometimes they have floor length dresses?
If you are looking for very cheap you could try ASOS.
The John Lewis website also sometimes has some eveningwear bargains. x

shiftkey · 30/05/2016 10:59

Extremely cheap I'm afraid. I think I may be asking the impossible...

TK Maxx? Or Just Last Season?

Ilovenannyplum · 30/05/2016 11:04

Have a look at Little Mistress (don't be put off by the name) or Quiz Clothing, lots of reasonably priced floor length dresses there

I'm having the above as my bridesmaid dresses Smile
I know you said no grey, they come in pale pink too!

www.justlastseason.co.uk/navy-sleevless-maxi-dress/030037177.html?cgid=JLS_Dresses&dwvar_030037177_color=0081
This would look lovely with the right accessories, coral, turquoise or silver. And a bargain too.

Ememem84 · 30/05/2016 11:06

coast have some lovely dresses. As do monsoon

shiftkey · 30/05/2016 11:08

Thank you for all the suggestions. Looking through ASOS now and then will have a look at Coast.

Ilovenannyplum that dress is gorgeous but definitely best in the grey - you will have stunning bridesmaids! Wish this bride wasn't having such a good colour choice - I always think grey is so lovely!

House of Fraser has money off just now

I'll see if I can fine something nice

RonaldMcDonald · 30/05/2016 11:14

What about this fella as you don't know the bride so well?

Gruach · 30/05/2016 11:16

I'm slightly struggling to see the problem!Grin

But why are you googling such a generic term rather than just looking in clothes shops online or in actual buildings?

What is your budget and how do you want to look?

nilbyname · 30/05/2016 11:18

I wouldn't wear Jersey fabric to a wedding when the bride has stipulated cocktail/evening gown. Jersey is far to casual and I think in that contes will look cheap.

Gruach · 30/05/2016 11:19

(Apologies - typed slowly, you've already answered.)
