Am I too old for silver hair?

I'm 34 and considering dying my hair silver (not everyone's cup of tea I know but it's a look i like). I'm naturally pale skinned and dark haired with dark eyebrows and lashes. I wonder if dyed silver hair is the preserve of the teenager. Am I too close in age to having naturally grey hair that it'll age me?

Can you post a photo of what you're planning?
I'd imagine the upkeep would be a nightmare .Your roots would drive you batty after a week.

A school mum I thought was my age (36) has it. She's ten years younger. I think it's aging.

Silver hair is an old person's look that's become a fashionable look. You're neither too old for it nor too young.

Thanks for replies. Yeah-upkeep does sound hard but hoping to enlist SIL who is amazing at this sort of thing. It would be expensive but I guess it'd be an end of mat leave 'reward' if that makes any sense? Prob only to me Blush

Woman at work in her 40s doing this so why not. My friend is dark haired and will leave her dark roots to show through like in your pics. My only con every is that you say you have pale skin. You could look washed out unless you go for a strong, sheepish grey/silver or wear good make up or self tan to give your face some presence.
You're definitely not too old though.

I had assumed a typo when you asked if you are too 'old' for silver hair Grin as I thought you meant too young.
I think grey/silver hair looks much better on younger people (it is just another colour) and is only aging if you are actually old.

I am 70 and have 'salt and pepper' hair (silver threads amongst the dark brown) which is a nightmare - at least if it was grey/white would be consistent and look OK with my olive skin

I'm 37 and and I've just gone with a grey pixie cut. I love it, my friends love it....my 14yr old ds and his mates think it's my natural colour and I look like a nanna...they have no taste in hairstyles though.

Do it!! Im 41 and have just had icy white all over with purple roots and blue streaks (looks better/more subtle in real life!)

Great question. I'm 44 and love this look but I fear it will just look like old woman grey, rather than trendy young thing grey. If I was your age, I'd do it in a heart beat. You're a mere whipper snapper!

Yeah I think your pics are lovely and I'm sure you can pull it off at your age. I think its a look that requires a consistent amount of makeup to complement it iyswim.

I can't believe that dyeing your hair grey is an actual thing! I thought people dyed their hair to cover grey? I can understand embracing the grey when it starts, but dyeing other colours grey when you don't need to? I don't get it Confused

But I guess I don't get a lot of 'fashion'.

I'll never see my forties again but have a pixie cut, and have had my hair silvered. My hairdresser did it for me, I work in the arts and I'm not sure if that helps, but people did tell me it looked great. I thought it looked lovely.
My hair is now a sort of white chocolate colour, but I was fond of the grey.

I do get my hair done professionally and I'm willing to pay for a good cut and colour. I wouldn't have done it myself.

Depends on what nick your face is in - if you still have the bloom of youth Wink then yes; if you look like you've had a hard paper round then no.

Fake grey/silver hair never looks natural though, IMO, so it would be obvious that you were doing it as a 'thing'. That might help.

I had my ash blonde done rose gold yesterday and I am 38. I love it. The pastel colours are only semi permanent so if you don't like it it's easy enough to change.

How good it takes will depend on what colour you are now.

I love all your hair. Starburst that cut is beautiful. I think I'll be keeping the length of mine (shoulder). Perhaps roots as in the first pic would be the key to making it obviously 'a thing'.

I love silver hair but it's like any colour - it doesn't flatter everyone. Things like condition and texture and getting the shade right all make a big difference. And then maintaining it is a faff.

So I don't know whether it will work for you or not. But I do think that not having a go because it's something teenagers do, is the worst possible reason.
