Evening dress for a wedding?!?

This is for my mum, she needs help!
Wedding in the summer in a castle. The invitation says black tie / evening dress. My mum is 5ft1, size 10, she is 61 but looks about 40. Dark brown hair olive skin. She has looked and looked but can't find anything to buy, so, style and beauty gurus, can you find my mum a frock?

She thinks monsoon is hippy dresses! ( she is really groomed at all times, I am quite the opposite and I wear lots of monsoon, I think that put her offGrin)

Or asos has some really nice petite evening dresses that might suit her style better? If you ignore the ingenue type models Grin

SilvaCaledonia · 22/05/2016 20:45

It is highly likely that many of the wedding givers will go to coast or monsoon, so I would avoid anyway in case of the dreaded same dress...

SilvaCaledonia · 22/05/2016 20:46

*wedding goers, not givers

MrsLettuce · 22/05/2016 20:47

Surely the bodice will be too long on a lot of standard length dresses too though, not just the skirt?

A lot of dresses can be taken up from the waist. sometimes the bodice is shorted as well as the skirt sometimes just one or the other. Detail at the hem doesn't necessarily make alterations impossible.
I'd not be surprised if the TB one could be taken up in the bodice to the line of the tops of the current open sides and still need a bit off the skirt too.

nancy75 · 22/05/2016 20:48

That's the thing Silva, I don't know if this wedding is more dressy than the average monsoon wedding outfit, that's why she is struggling so much. My dad has to wear bow tie and dressy suit.

If she's not checked the outnet then she's probably missed Matches too, both are certainly worth a look.

Argh, can't seem to post links at the mo but do have a look at Chi Chi (dreadful name but nice dresses). They have loads of styles, most are the style you are talking about. They also do a petite range. I think John Lewis carry some of their dresses but their own site has a far bigger range and they do free post and returns.

SilvaCaledonia · 22/05/2016 20:51

Definitely evening/cocktail dress. Long or short, but like a ball rather than a day wedding.

I had a black tie wedding, and people took the chance to get really dressed up, sparkly frocks and all.

Buggers · 22/05/2016 20:51

As it's black tie for men I'm thinking a lot of the woman will be in ball gown type dresses. Are your parents going to the ceremony or just reception?

MrsLettuce · 22/05/2016 20:51

If it's calling it's self a black tie wedding, she need to wear the level what she'd wear to a normal black tie ball of an evening. Erring to the dressier side of things.

MrsLettuce · 22/05/2016 20:51

it's?

nancy75 · 22/05/2016 20:52

she has probably looked at matches as she shops in their shop but I will certainly get her to look, they may have some new things!

OP posts:
SilvaCaledonia · 22/05/2016 20:53

mire Asos petite

Silver strappy sandals and nice jewellery.

nancy75 · 22/05/2016 20:56

They are going to the whole day & evening. She doesn't go to black tie balls so that's the problem! For a normal wedding she could have found loads of things, she is wary of over dressing and underdressing in equal measure. Whatever she goes for I know she won't do sparkly!

I doubt if she's heard of finery London so will get her to look but think they might not be dressed enough, she has looked in whistles as she buys lots from there. I love self portrait which is usually a bad sign Grin

madham.co.uk/product?p=9157

nancy75 · 22/05/2016 21:23

Choughed, that's a nice shape but probably too dark for a summer wedding, although I have never heard of that website so will get her to have a look on there.
I think I am just going to suggest she books personal shoppers in a couple of the big department stores and let them sort her out!

sleepwhenidie · 22/05/2016 21:24

could this work?

nancy75 · 22/05/2016 21:27

Sleep, that is definitely more her kind of thing, I will send her the link. With high shoes would it be dressed enough for black tie?

OP posts:
sleepwhenidie · 22/05/2016 21:29

or this, black, but stunning

sleepwhenidie · 22/05/2016 21:29

I think it would be great, yes.

MrsLettuce · 22/05/2016 21:31

That's beautiful. Nothing like the example but stunning.

MrsLettuce · 22/05/2016 21:31

Meant the first one but true for both
