Gained 1.5 stones in a year and feeling frumpy

CoolToned · 19/05/2016 22:59

And I feel absolutely annoyed at myself. I don't like dressing up anymore. Nothing looks good.

This is on top of me being overweight, so maybe I am pushing obese BMI now.

Went back to uni and I thought I'm going to lose weight because of the stress - guess what, didn't happen.

I guess I just want to vent. And maybe find people in the same boat - how do you make yourself feel good after a massive weight gain?

CreviceImp · 19/05/2016 23:16

1.5 stones is not a massive weight gain. It is easy to blow it out of perspective until it feels like an unmanageable hurdle but it really isn't.

It is 21 pounds. You can easily get that off in under two months.

This works for me:

Pick up your steps per day to at least 10,000 but aim for 15,000 and lower your intake to around 1200 cals. Eat protein at every meal with lots of salad/veg, cut out crap and drink lots of water. Have a modest treat a couple of times a week. Keep a food diary to keep a realistic eye on what you are eating.

CoolToned · 19/05/2016 23:22

Thank you, Crevicelmp. I guess I'm blowing it out of perspective, you're right. I was once 100kgs and went down to 78kgs and then I gained the 21 pounds (probably 23-24 now) so I am really disappointed at myself.

But you're right. I've been binge-spending on makeup in an effort I guess to make my feel better because I don't like buying clothes anymore. What's crazy is, I don't even like wearing makeup.

I'll go back to eating the way like you do. I used to do that when I was losing weight, and it worked well for me. I just need to stop myself from overindulging now that exam season is almost here!

snickers251 · 19/05/2016 23:26

I hear ya :(

I lost almost two stone last year and I've put almost all of it back on in less than 6 months so I'm back on the diet bandwagon and I'm miserable.

I'm meeting my gorgeous skinny beautiful friends tomorrow night, I have a wardrobe full of lovely dresses and not one of them fit, I could cry!

AdrenalineFudge · 19/05/2016 23:33

Refining your current diet plan could easily result in a 1.5 stone weight loss. I second that it's not that hard to drop off:

Up the leafy veg & protein.
Reduce dairy & carbs.
Move more.

I really don't understand how the diet industry is a multi-billion pound industry. It's not rocket science! That's not aimed at you OP, just a general view I have of the fad diet pushing charlatans in the industry.

CoolToned · 19/05/2016 23:57

snickers251 - I know, right? I have a lot of clothes which I bought after the weight loss and they don't fit anymore. It's depressing. Let's lose this weight!

AdrenalineFudge - I guess people want a crutch? I agree though, it's not rocket science. I was able to do it before (well several times in my lifetime - I just keep bouncing back), I can do it again!

The biggest challenge for me is giving up dairy.

OP posts:
AnthonyPandy · 20/05/2016 01:01

I would like to join in if you want this to be an ongoing arse kicking thread. I'm actually 14 stone, sometimes slightly over, and I'm only 5'5'' so I need to lise some weight quite drastically. Can you recommend any cheap scales?

AnthonyPandy · 20/05/2016 01:03

And does reducing dairy include giving up tea? And the spoonful of sugar that goes with it?

CoolToned · 20/05/2016 03:03

AnthonyPandy - yay! Let's make this an arsekicking thread! :) I'm 13.5 stones so not far from you. Have you tried Splenda or Stevia as sugar replacement? I have no problem with Splenda, but since moving to Australia, I've gotten used to milk in my coffee. And I drink coffee a lot.

OP posts:
ICJump · 20/05/2016 03:36

Could I have an arse kick. I'm huge ! 120 kilos. Recently lost 5 but am binge eating again. I'm embarrassed that I let myself get so bad.

CoolToned · 20/05/2016 06:46

ICJump,

I think what Crevice said will help us - it's easy to fall into the trap thinking that it's unattainable, when in reality, it is. We just need to kick each other's arses and stick to lifestyle changes. :)

I was just over a stone heavier than I wanted to be and all of my clothes were too tight or cdnt fasten . I was wearing the same things all the time .
Your goal is totally do able don't despair !
I joined slimming world and have lost a stone and a bit .
I have wine and choc each evening
Cooked breakfast and protien and veg or salad in unlimited amounts for meals . Never hungry .
I think the important thing is know what your triggers for over eating are and avoid them if possible - mine is wine !
Or don't avoid but be really aware .
Sw is about low fat but I also have good fats like nuts n seeds but then don't have cheese etc ( u have a daily allowance)
It's not a short fix tho it's a way of eating - I struggled to adjust at first being a big cheese lover but seeing the benefits it's worth it .
You can do it !!
I kno exams are coming and you may want to leave things until after then but if you choose not to then you don't have to be hungry .
This is what I had y day
Cooked breakfast
Low cal bar 3 apples during day
Lunch egg chicken salad with pasta
Evening meal veg chilli and rice
Medium glass white wine
Curley Wurley
😄

coveredinhopeandvaseline · 20/05/2016 08:40

Right, I'm with you! I've 2 stone to lose, put on in the last year (baby, plus 9 months on maternity eating carrot cake)

I am going to do what always works for me, which is going vegan. I'm a lifelong vegetarian cheesefiend. Once I drop the dairy, the pounds usually melt away quite quickly.

Also going to replace breakfast with a green smoothie done in my nutribullet.

Weekly motivational weigh ins, anyone?

CoolToned · 20/05/2016 10:12

Yes for weekly motivational weigh in! Do we start on a Monday?

I was going to go with my husband for a night out with his friends tonight but I wasn't feeling, well, good. My clothes look like sausage casings on me. This has got to stop.

OP posts:
AnthonyPandy · 20/05/2016 10:20

Nooooo! We can't have weekly weigh-ins! I don't have any scales!

I did have but threw them away a few weeks ago when I realised my weight fluctuated by half a stone depending which leg I was standing on. Hmm

Pisssssedofff · 20/05/2016 12:56

You don't even want to weigh yourself, forget the scales go by how your clothes feel. You can literally do a number 2 and be two or three pounds lighter but you've actually lost nothing, same with water, it's not a measure of how healthy you are.
I massively upped my exercise, desparately trying to stop smoking but that's another thread and guzzling loads and loads of water. My clothes are looser already ... Started Monday.

Divineswirls · 20/05/2016 14:21

Ive put on weight to and can't fit into most clothes, very annoying

I've bought a couple of loose well cut tops to tide me over.

I am walking as much as I can and making a real effort with what I eat and drink. I have to be careful not too eat too little otherwise my sugar level crashes and I want to eat all sorts of rubbish or I get a bit tires and irritable.

Divineswirls · 20/05/2016 14:23

The best way really food wise is to avoid sugar, alcohol and carbs ESP bread and pasta for a while. Although I do allow myself toast in the morning but no bread after that on a daily basis and ESP no pasta or bread in the evenings.

Good luck

Divineswirls · 20/05/2016 14:27

I'm eating a lot of chicken salad at the moment. I cook a whole chicken and keep it in the fridge to use up over a few days so I have no excuse.

ExtremelyConfidential · 20/05/2016 14:31

Just wanted to let you all know another low carbs bootcamp has just kicked off on Monday. There's about 130 of us this time. Really helpful, easy and delicious way of eating and v supportive group. I'm sure late joiners would be warmly welcomed.

Check out the low carbs bootcamp section in the weight-loss area if you're interested.

Best of luck however you reach your goals!

AdrenalineFudge · 20/05/2016 14:42

Cool What sort of time-frame are you looking at in order to shift the weight?

Dreamqueen · 20/05/2016 15:45

Can I join too please?
I've gained 1.5 stone this year & can't shift it.

Emilyclimbs · 20/05/2016 18:40

I have 1.5 stone to lose as well op! Two babies and after the first took other peoples assurances that it would melt off too literallyHmm. Sadly not the case. Joined slimming world this week and trying v hard to reset my appetite so that two bars of chocolate a day is no longer normalBlush. First few days difficult of course but getting easier. I too have a wardrobe of clothes that don't fit. I would love to join in too as I badly need the moral support when the lure of cake proves too strong.

CoolToned · 20/05/2016 21:13

Adrenaline - I'm giving myself two months to get back to 170 lbs. I'm 190.6 this morning :(

DreamQueen, Emilyclimbs - yay! let's do this!

AnthonyPandy - maybe go by measurements if you don't have scales?

Pissedoff - actually yeah scales can really mess up with the head. I remember when I was losing two years ago, I wasn't losing anymore at 167 lbs and I felt so annoyed and frustrated!

ExtremelyConfidential - thanks! :)

OP posts:
AdrenalineFudge · 20/05/2016 21:27

That sounds reasonable, how tall are you? Sorry, It sounds like I'm interrogating you! Grin

If you're starting on Monday and going for 2 months - give or take how you calculate it then you'll have achieved your desired result between 18-23rd July. Sounds like a plan to me Smile

CoolToned · 20/05/2016 21:49

Adrenaline - I'm 5'7.75. :) I turn 38 on 24th July and I would love to be 170 then!

Shallow story - it pains me that it's autumn here in Melbourne, and my leather jackets are resting because I can't fit into them. :(
