So, am in the annual 'growing out of the crop' phase that will likely end in failure. I am nearly, nearly at a bob... butthe pixie itch is needing to be scratched!

I know pixies can be a diversive topic... some people luff 'em, some don't, so, rather than ask what I should do and people say what they prefer... can you show pic of slebs that have had crops with pics of them with crops and with longer hair, to see who does and doesn't suit.

Here's mine:

Ginnifer with cropped hair

Ginnifer with long hair

Anne Hathaway long hair

Anne Hathaway short hair

Personally I think these two look fab cropped... what others can you think of?

I think a pixie works best with a strong/block dark colour for lots of shine, or blonde, and enough make-up to make your eyes 'pop' to give you that startled elf look Grin

Whathaveilost · 20/05/2016 08:08

I really don't like the cropped look on these two women, especially on Anne Hatthaway. Anne's hair looks lovely long.

Whathaveilost · 20/05/2016 08:13

With the exception of Halle Berry every other celebrity looked far better with longer hair, especially Michelle Williams and Dani Minogue.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 20/05/2016 08:17

I love short hair on women but I do think you need quite defined features or fairly striking make ultimate to make it work.

I had very short hair in my 20's, always felt I needed a fair amount of make up on to balance it out. I'd love to do it again but I'm the wrong side of 40, much more saggy and less inclined to wear make up. Also I'm going grey, a strong hair colour is needed too, I think.

burnishedsilver · 20/05/2016 08:20

A lot of the women a so good looking that they could have their heads, glue glitter to their scalps and still look amazing. It's not really an indication of how us mortals would look with the same hair styles.

Personally, I look fat with short hair. My face is small and delicate and can take a pixi but it makes my head look disproportionately small, which makes my body look disproportionately big.

Meeep · 20/05/2016 09:29

I think they all look better with short hair!

Meeep · 20/05/2016 09:33

Except Pamela Anderson and Jamie Alexander maybe.

Cocolepew · 20/05/2016 10:23

I have a face like a moon and I'm about a stone overweight and look lovely with my pixie Longer hair drags my face down.

SophieLion · 20/05/2016 10:34

Not quite sure how to put in photos but I think Emma Watson looked great with a pixie (but she also looks good with longer hair). She has a beautiful face with amazing bone structure though.

Think pixies also look lovely on Halle Berry, Sharon Stone, Natalie Portman, Charlize Theron

whitershadeofpale · 20/05/2016 10:44

Demi Moore in Ghost was my first short hair crush. Looking at it now it's too heavy and bowl like but I'd love to see her with a softer Pixi. Her hair always looks in fab condition but it's a bit dull imo.

Kate moss looks a million times better with Bardot/long hair!

I think Kate Moss really suited her short hair - very Mia Farrow. The scraggy bleached affair in the middle does nowt for her, but she does look great with long hair as well.

Funnily enough I was thinking about Demi Moore last night, as I remember rushing off to the hairdressers with a picture of that short haircut after seeing Ghost. I was young then. I suspect I'd look like a dinner lady called Maureen with short hair now (no disrespect to all dinner ladies/Maureens out there).

Whathaveilost · 20/05/2016 12:54

I thinkI many cropped styles can look harsh and unforgiving on many people, even on many of the celebrities that have been posted and many of them are considered beautiful women.

I like the fact with longer hair you can have it down and tousled, straight, tied back, half up and half down etc. It's so much more versatile.

JapaneseSlipper · 20/05/2016 12:56

Can't do photos right now but as soon as Miley Cyrus cut all her Hannah Montana hair off, I thought "I wouldn't have thought she'd do it, but it looks a million times better"

Ginnifer definitely looks better with short hair.

I think the problem with Audrey Tatou's short dos is that they have always been too fluffy and not cropped enough.

mercifulTehlu · 20/05/2016 13:04

I'm currently growing out a crop (again) too. I think it's a bit of a red herring to concentrate on which hair styles look good on which celebs tbh. The reason I never keep mine cropped for long is because a) it takes much more effort to make it look nice when it's short b) I can't just tie it back when I'm in a rush and c) I don't look like celeb, so my crop is never going to look like Michelle Williams' crop, no matter what I do. I just think that you need to be very groomed and glam (or just naturally beautiful!) to really rock the crop look. I mean, it looks ok on normal people, but I almost never see anyone with a crop in rl and think how great it looks iyswim.

I'm so pleased this thread is still going! Grin

This is a really interesting thread! Smile
I think Ginnifer Goodwin is just stunning with shorter hair. However when she had a baby a couple of years ago, a lot of the weight went to her face around that time and it changed her look completely. The hair looked awful on her at that time and it was interesting to see how different the hair looked without her really defined jawline.

I think one of the best examples of shorter hair though has to be Robin wright penn from House of Cards. She looks just amazing with shorter hair compared to her long hair in Forest Gump etc.

I have the same cut as Robin Wright, and my hair is the same type. Unfortunately hair like ours does look a bit shit long, it's thin but a bit wavy and fluffy and just sort of hangs there. I'd love swishy long hair but I never even get it to bob length without giving up.

jasmine1979 · 20/05/2016 13:55

Carey Mulligan is a good example of suiting shorter hair more as well I think.
Also a non celeb woman from this article here. www.huffingtonpost.com/aryanna-prasad/the-short-hair-social-exp_b_4684745.html

I agree that Victoria Beckham looks far better with shorter hair. I actually usually prefer long hair, but I find hers (or her extensions?) just always looks lank and greasy just hanging there. She looked lovely with her really short crop. It brought so much extra life to her face and made her eyes stand out and sparkle.

I loved Charlize with short hair, but shes just gorgeous anyway.
Mine is like, this atm. I had it platinum with an undercut before.
Unfortunately I dont look like her.

Cherish... your hair type sounds exactly like mine... fine and fluffy, yet if I don't wash it everyday it looks greasy.... I know the bob if i get there will look lank and meh.... bah!!

I think both Sharon Stone and Halle Berry look great with short hair. Pammie-no.

The others? Mmm...they're great-looking anyway, so suit both equally imho.

I've got a crop (ish) but need to fluff up the top a bit to balance the rest of my body.

Sallystyle · 20/05/2016 16:35

I have very short hair. I am always tempted to grow it out but I can never bother with the hassle for too long.

I have skimmed this thread but Ruby Rose is another one who looks amazing with short hair.

OnTique · 20/05/2016 16:57

Oh god I drive myself crazy with short hair then growing it again. I'm never happy.

I've finally (gawd it took ages) grown my bob back in. But my hair is fine and tends to be flat. I'm looking at these crops here and I'm tempted; I think they look nice and maybe my bob looks boring.

But I'm conscious of my jawline and neck nowadays so I think maybe very short hair for me wouldn't work now and it takes eons to grow back if I do anything drastic and regret it Confused I have also found I've had to make a bigger effort with makeup too when my hair is v short.

Another person to add to the list I think looks good with cropped hair is Ellen DeGeneres. I prefer cropped hair spiked up a bit too.
