I can no longer afford Lancôme mascara. What's the next best thing?

I'm on maternity leave and need to adjust my budget accordingly glares at DH

Have used Lancôme Grandiose since it came out and I LOVE it. However, I can no longer justify £25 on a tube of mascara now I'm on maternity pay so I'm looking for an alternative, under £15.

What's best? I have half decent lashes but they need fattening and lengthening.

Thanks in advance Flowers

The L'Oreal tubing one with the undercoat, can't remember what it's called I'm afraid. Tend to get it cheap on Ebay

guiltynetter · 20/05/2016 16:14

loreal telescopic - I always try new ones but go back to this every time

purplefizz26 · 20/05/2016 16:15

Loreal telescopic involved the gold tube, i adore it ! Tenner Smile

I've tried hundreds of mascaras and the best one I have ever used is a cheap Oriflame one (I get oriflame sometimes because it's cruelty free). The brush is very thick and bristly. In fact I have to admit I think it's the brush that's good because I've used that brush with different mascaras and had the same brilliant results.

Imaspecialsnowflake1 · 20/05/2016 16:29

How often are you buying mascara ? My Lancôme lasts 3 months can you not sneak away £10 a month? I say that as a Lancôme junkie. I can't think about not having it Shock

I tried Lancôme mascara and didn't get on with it at all. I have eyelashes like a cow, they need lots of mascara but not that one as it makes them brittle. Maybelline all the way here.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 20/05/2016 16:40

I meant Max Factor Masterpiece, just checked mine...

hollieberrie · 20/05/2016 16:40

So happy I'm not alone in feeling the love for L'Oreal Telescopic Grin. It really is my holy grail mascara - i have the stubbiest blondest lashes and this helps me to look half way human every morning!

NuggetofPurestGreen · 20/05/2016 16:41

No ones mentioned Revlon I don't think! I've used Fabulash for years but couldn't see it when I was in the shop the other day so got a different one called ultra volume. Agree with whoever said its all in the brush.

littlemisseatsherfeelings · 20/05/2016 16:45

Maybelline Colossal (yellow pack) or Rimmel Scandal'Eyes (orange pack) are brilliant for volume.
Also in slightly higher price range are L'Oreal voluminous or Volume Million lashes and Max Factor False Lash effect range.

I work in the cosmetics industry and get to try a lot of them for free, and having tried A LOT, I am happy to put my name to these! :) all well under £15 too!

mrsdane · 20/05/2016 16:47

I'm with Personal - MAC Zoom lash. Much cheaper than other premium brands but amazing.

OurBlanche · 20/05/2016 16:49

I hate buying make up, so have come to an agreement with myself: BareMinerals and, erm, oh... the mascara I currently have has a special tip, for applying to the roots and a nice brush fornormal application, it's by, erm... oh.... Benefit They're Real Ye gods, that took so long to remember!

It's £19.50 though!

But as I have short stubby lashes I am only too hapy to have a mascara that makes them look even vaguely normal!

JigokuShojou · 20/05/2016 17:09

I've bought and tried some high-end mascaras in the past. They're just not worth it. Tried brands have included Lancome, Helena Rubinstein and Chanel. Helena Rubinstein - Lash Queen Feline Blacks Mascara was dreadful-it had a recently strong odour which lingered-I could actually detect it absolutely hours after application. I can achieve the same effects from cheaper brands. Also, the brush was HUGE, for someone with small eyes it was a case of how to apply it.

StrangeDream · 20/05/2016 18:09

Well my mission failed today, I ran out of time and didn't buy one. Will try again tomorrow.

Loving that Cosmo article.

Thanks for all the suggestions Flowers

Rimmel, the blue one, is about £6 and I think it's great! I wear lenses and it's super, not clumpy and it's waterproof.

dodobedoop · 20/05/2016 19:58

Another vote here for the blue Rimmel mascara. It's about the only one that I don't wipe most off on a tissue before I apply it! Not clumpy, and stays put.

FrustratedFrugal · 20/05/2016 20:52

I really like Rimmel mascaras.

Hails080690 · 20/05/2016 20:56

Hi
I've recently started selling avon products and using their mascara and they are really good and cheaper most are under £15 and there also some deals in mascaras making it cheaper. X

mrsbrabbit · 20/05/2016 21:46

Another vote for Aldi 3D here... I bought a Benefit They're Real then promptly lost it. Gah!

MissesBloom · 20/05/2016 22:39

How has nobody mentioned this yet

m.boots.com/h5/cat_hub?unCountry=uk&path=%2Fen%2FNatural-Collection-Lash-Length-Mascara_24319%2F

2 quid and it's fab. I was a serial spender when it came to mascara. Would only buy chanel then decided when it went up to 24 pounds that I'd find a cheaper alternative and online I saw natural collection lash length mentioned. Have never looked back. It's perfect consistency doesn't clump, is totally build able just lovely. For £2 you can't go wrong.Grin

ZacharyQuack · 20/05/2016 23:12

Rimmel supercurler in the fat purple tube. I hate the Maybelline great last one in the pink and green tube.

Moogletea · 20/05/2016 23:39

Another vote for Mac Factor Masterpiece. Tried lots of others and always come back to this.

rahlikeatiger · 21/05/2016 00:03

Voting for Benefit They're Real too! Best mascara I've had in a while X

lem73 · 21/05/2016 00:38

Place marking! Any suggestions for sensitive eyes?
