Is this okay for an August wedding?

The groom is one of DP's work colleagues - I've met him once, his fiancee never, but plenty of DP's other work colleagues whom I do know will be there. The wedding's in rural Kent: ceremony, afternoon tea, dancing, hog roast.

I haven't been to a wedding for YEARS. I've just ordered this dress but am feeling proper nervous about it now. Please tell me it's ok?!

Also: would love to get these shoes to go with it, but can't afford to spend £50 on them at the moment - does anyone know of a cheaper option but similar style?

The dress is good! Don't worry any more Smile

The sandals are also quite nice but not so much for with that dress for a wedding, I'm afraid. Is it flats with a strap over the for that you're after? Can have a rummage for you if you like.

CakeNinja · 17/05/2016 14:52

The dress is really pretty!
Sadly I really don't think the sandals you've chosen really go with the dress, have you seen anything else that you like?

burnishedsilver · 17/05/2016 15:01

Yes to the dress.
Massive no to the shoes. I can't stress that one enough.

skippy67 · 17/05/2016 15:09

The shoes are all kinds of wrong. Nice dress though.

UsernamesAreAPainInTheBalls · 17/05/2016 15:13

^^^ What the last two posters said the dress is pretty but those shoes are horrific. They're not even nice in their own right let alone with the dress ✋🏼
I know your saying rural affair so maybe you don't want sky high heels but what about red or navy wedges maybe? Something like this?

Dress is nice though it looks a sort of midi length which looks better the taller and more willowy you are.

No to the shoes. Dear God no to the shoes.

FashionLover1 · 17/05/2016 15:14

Agree with burnishedsilver. Yes to dress, no to shoes.

MrsLettuce · 17/05/2016 15:28

I was trying to be kind about the sandals but, yes, they are indeed "All kinds of wrong". Certainly with this dress

GrendelsMother23 · 17/05/2016 16:02

Sad I can see why the shoes wouldn't work with the dress, now I think about it, but I thought they looked nice and Edwardian/vintage-y. No? I'm not brilliant at this style thing

Love those red peep wedges though, Usernames. And the other two, actually! But should probably stick to wedges or v v low heels given that I am a most enthusiastic dancer.

Thank goodness the dress is ok!

Flat sandals

CakeNinja · 17/05/2016 16:14

I'm really sorry, they look frumpy to me, although to be fair, I've never seen a par of flat sandals that don't look frumpy (to me) so I'm not the best person to ask!
They don't go with the dress at all, which is really lovely, just keep looking for shoes! I'd be tempted by wedges, (is the wedding in a field?) they're okay for dancing in!

SymbollocksInteractionism · 17/05/2016 16:17

These are nice, in pale pink or black.

Like the dress. If you have to get flat sandals (I wouldn't) please get ones that go.

GrendelsMother23 · 17/05/2016 16:22

Yeah CakeNinja I think you're right! Oh well. There is a streak of old lady in me, which would explain it, but I need to be steered away from it!

Symbollocks (nice name), those are lovely, I'm seriously thinking about those.

SymbollocksInteractionism · 17/05/2016 16:23

Sorry previous sandals were supposed to be pink flats!! I agree flats can look frumpy with a dress but it depends what OP is looking for.

Wedges will be fine for dancing they don't have to be really high. The dress is lovely don't ruin it with flats that kind of style screams out for sexy shoes. defo don't do flats for a wedding unless your over 75 or have a back problem 👌🏽👌🏽

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 17/05/2016 19:25

Dress is lovely, shoes definitely not!

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 17/05/2016 19:35

I'm not sure about the dress, it looks ok but is stretchy polyester - it may be hot and sweaty in August.

GrendelsMother23 · 18/05/2016 09:11

AllPizzas I wondered about that but I think it will be okay! If not, I have a backup.

Right, so definitely going to go with wedges, probably in pink or navy blue - thanks, team! Smile
