How to make a round face look slimmer?

Summerxsunx · 16/05/2016 13:27

I am 5'3, and 8st, size 6-8 on top and 8-10 on bottom. So hardly huge, my face however when I smile seems to put about 10lbs on me, especially in photos!

I have really high cheek bones and people say I have good bone structure, but my face is very oval shaped and when I smile, just goes completely round like a football with big chubby cheeks.

My friend took a photo of me yesterday and I nearly died when I saw it on FB! I looked so fat in my face :cries:

Is there actually any way, through make up or otherwise, to help slim down your face? (Other than loosing a shed load of weight, which I don't really need to do)

And yes, I realise this is a very superficial post so apologies Blush

Well, if you can't be superficial in S&B, where can you be? Grin
I've no idea, but my youngest is (severely) underweight, and has huge round cheeks, sorry.

Floisme · 16/05/2016 13:37

I think I know what you mean. I'm 5'3 and although I'm still size 8-10, my face has filled out a lot.
A haircut makes a big difference for me. It really lifts my cheekbones.
Whatever you do, don't stop smiling!

Summerxsunx · 16/05/2016 13:40

That's the thing, I never smile in photos, ever!! And I actually have very straight, white teeth (sorry, I know I'm sounding like a right up myself so and so on here, not a stealth boast I promise!) People think I have really bad teeth until they see them as I just hate smiling in photos etc as it adds about a stone in weight, it's just awful. I felt so fat yesterday after looking at that photo!

So yeh, nice teeth, paid a fortune to have them whitened a couple of years ago and won't smile as it makes me look fat GrinGrin

yy, hair can help also maybe that contouring malarky people do these days.

But, at the risk of sounding like a patronising old git, you'll be thankful when you're older and non-haggard looking and yer mates are all having fillers. Time erodes the fullness for all of us and those who are skinny faced when young 'suffer' first.

readingrainbow · 16/05/2016 13:44

Have you tried tilting your head or finding your "good side"? I have round cheeks but if I hold my head just so, it isn't so noticeable.

Floisme · 16/05/2016 13:46

I disagree with that. My face has filled out and it's probably the single thing that's aged me the most.
Age gets us all!

Floisme · 16/05/2016 13:50

Sorry cross post. I meant I disagreed with MrsLettuce though I know it's a commonly held view. I can't advise on head tilting!

Whatthefoxgoingon · 16/05/2016 13:52

Would you like to swap faces with me???

I have a long face and in my forties this has aged me more than anything Sad

I'd love full cheeks and no deep nasolabial folds...

NatalieRushman · 16/05/2016 13:57

A good haircut can definitely help. My Dsis got layers which frame her face quite nicely and makes it look slimmer. She used to have a much chubbier face than me - alas, I am now the baby faced one.

Floisme · 16/05/2016 13:59

I will Whatthefox!

I 'd love a long, thin face, deep lines and all. Much more elegant.

There's a moral to this somewhere...Grin

Whatthefoxgoingon · 16/05/2016 15:44

Hah flo I bet there is! Grin

BrandNewAndImproved · 16/05/2016 15:49

I want a long slim face. My ex used to call me the moon as my face was so round and white.

Summerxsunx · 16/05/2016 17:14

Obviously no magic cure then SadSad

OP I know where you're coming from I have a gigantic cabbage patch style face and the rest of me is fairly petite and I look awful in photos ! Would love to find a hairstyle which slimmed me down a bit . Although people say it does help you look younger I just find the older I'm getting im all face and lines under the eyes which isn't a great look .

Summerxsunx · 16/05/2016 21:03

Cabbage patch style face GrinGrin

It's just so annoying as I'm bordering on underweight and yet, if you looked at me in photos of just my face you would probably think I was a stone overweight. I hate it. One of my best friends is the same height as me and 11st, but she has the most beautiful, elegant, elongated face and honestly, if you looked at just her face in a photo, you would think she was a supermodel!

I hate looking like a cabbage patch doll Sad

I had Curly hair when I was younger still do and whenever I show people photos of me then ,that's one of the lovely comments they make ! Have you tried contouring ? I'm hopeless at it and end up looking orange and shiny as well as round . My face seems to get even puffier during PMS too all my family have long faces my DP has a long face my friends all have nice little faces and I have this huge face . Confused

yougetme · 16/05/2016 21:44

Photos are your friends. Take loads in different lighting and with your make up and hair in different styles so you can see the effects.
Personally I would go for the chin tilt-always keep your chin up. Added to a head tilt ( try a variety of angles and sides etc) you get a whole new face shape. Compare this to your usual pose.
You dont think that others do this? Check out facebook pics of people you think look well in photos. There will usually be a common 'style' in most of their photos. This is because they have practiced their look.

Kennington · 16/05/2016 21:50

Long hair with a long fringe - sweepy
I get called moon face by my dad so I understand
The long hair somehow slims it a lot
On the plus side my cheeks make me look young - ish

hollieberrie · 16/05/2016 21:56

Oooh this is so me too! I am very petite and slim but have a big old moon face. I dont mind myself in the mirror but i hate what i see in photos, the camera just seems to catch my big face at its worst! Blush

I look better with my hair up i think, it helps to slims my face a bit, and also a bit of strategically placed bronzer to try and pretend i have cheekbones! Havent tried contouring, it looks tricky. Have you tried hair up OP? Scaped back in a messy bun, or a parting and some lovely wispy bits coming down, i do think that helps with my moonface.

Marlene Dietrich got her molars pulled out. Looks like it worked wonders but maybe that's a bit drastic?

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 17/05/2016 08:03

This is me too. Thin with a strangely round face and chubby cheeks. Smile
My tips are:
Long straight hair,
Sweeping fringe cut cheekbone length,
Hair put up,
Subtle (non shimmery) bronzer on sides of face in a 3 shape, inverted on other side.
Smile in photos..better to be a happy round faced person than a miserable one with a slightly thinner face!

specialsubject · 17/05/2016 12:53

I doubt anyone else is seeing what you are seeing.

don't wear round specs frames, and don't have huge curly hair. But the Jackie-mag blusher stripes didn't work in the 80s and don't work now, you'll just look stripey or mucky.

I agree - smile!

FashionLover1 · 17/05/2016 12:58

Maybe try to contour your face :)

YoureSoSlyButSoAmI · 17/05/2016 13:14

Contouring.
If you're finding bronzers etc too dark/red/orange, Nyx do a blusher in a shade called "Taupe" which is good for paler skins.
