Err, how did that happen with no one noticing!
It's because we're all on the dark and stormy, sloe gin and prosecco innit.

Sorry for the not v inspired title but I panicked.

Oh yes, Herbs, I was thinking about Bamburgh!

And Addle, your (elderly?) relative must need glasses - obviously there are 2 beautiful girls in your family.

NUFC69 · 20/05/2016 14:00

Just took my half an hour to catch up, and I was only away for four nights ...

I hope the procedure goes well, MrsS; better safe than sorry (sorry, trite words). Good luck with the kitten tomorrow.

MI, sorry to hear that you're feeling rubbish. It was your DM's loss if she didn't know how talented you are.

Crem, the ops sound awful - will they really do both arms at the same time? Unfortunately (or not) I will be in Lake Tahoe for your party - have a wonderful time.

Stropps, fantastic about DD and her inheritance: clearly something has sunk in.

Strength to all DC taking exams (and wine to their DPs.

I love the dress, Rose, and your break at the flat sounds lovely.

Well our downmarket trip to a caravan was very successful. We stayed at Cresswell and the beach is great there: both lots of sand and rock pools. We took DGC fishing and they were delighted with their haul of two golf balls! Yesterday DH and I cycled up the coast to the even nicer beach at Low Hauxley - wonderful going, but against a howling gale (exaggerates slightly) on the way back.

Herbs, yes, do come up here: Seahouses would be a good base. I know DS loves castles and we do have rather a lot of all eras. Alnwick Gardens is spectacular (and the castle is in the Harry Potter films). One of our favourites when the DC were about your DS's age was Belsay Castle - just up the road from me. The Northumberland Tourist Board have a very good book out that would be worth sending away for. Let me know if I can help at all.

addle · 20/05/2016 14:02

Mrs S, I work pretty much half way between yr work and home if you ever want a quick break/drink/rant.

herbaceous · 20/05/2016 14:05

Too late, NU! I did consider Seahouses, but in the end went for Bamburgh as it has a beach. And an am I loved our holiday in Tenby when we could just walk to the beach, and the pub, and castle action!

Think we're going to get the train up (to Newcastle or Durham) and then hire a car. I'm quite fancying a Fiat500 as they're so cute, though DS might be a big squashed in the back! Saves me driving all the way and getting arsey.

And yes, Cremo. What on earth are you having done to both arms at the same time?

bigTillyMint · 20/05/2016 14:23

Fiat 500's are EVERYWHERE round our way, mostly white and red, but I have seen a lovely turquoise colour - I even fancy one myself!

Train up there sounds like a great plan, given that you are the sole driver.

herbaceous · 20/05/2016 14:31

That's what I thought.

I've loved Fiat500s for years, ever since our neighbour used to take four of us to school in the back of her proper vintage (i.e., tiny) one. I even considered buying a vintage one myself. Then when the new ones came out I promised myself a powder blue number if I didn't get pregnant with DS. But I did!

herbaceous · 20/05/2016 14:35

I've always been the fat clever one in our family. Sis was briefly fat, while I was briefly slim, but went bulimic pronto once our father said 'can't you be slim like herbs?' Way to go, dad.

Talking of which, we're going to a family party next weekend with the aunt who's sole compliment upon greeting is always 'aren't you SLIM?' Sis and I were considering turning up in fat suits and seeing what she says then! The whole event presents something of a wardrobe nightmare. I am fat, they are all thin. I am poor, they are all rich. I thought I might just totally embrace the sitch and wear something from Sainsburys, accessorised by something from a charity shop.

bigTillyMint · 20/05/2016 14:44

Ah but Herbs, you have style Smile

hattymattie · 20/05/2016 15:21
Cremo · 20/05/2016 15:56

I am the proud owner of a cinquecento (500 to you and me) I love mine!! In fact just got a new one in the red. This is my third one. For my 40 th we hired a vintage one ( same age as me) in Lake Garda. Fab. get one Herbs!!
For hols
Oh Mrs S, that's bloody harsh. Hope they do it sympathetically. Can you drive tomorrow after this? mr S is on my list. I'm keeping an eye on him.Sad

NU , sorry you can't come this time. I really look forward to meeting you sometime though. Sounds like there might be a little Northumberland Meetup on the cards anyhoo??

Oh the hands are so annoying. I asked why do both at the same time and he said it was because I have to have a GA and one of those was safer than two. Fair enough. I have come home with handcrafted splints that are passion killer in extremis. Designed to keep arms and fingers straight while you sleep. can't wait.

motherinferior · 20/05/2016 16:05

Cremo, I have to ask - what do you do bum-wise?

Hatty, I am the doyenne of red lippies. Try Clinique's Matt Crimson, which is fab, and/or Clarins jolie rouge in 'cherry' which is in fact quite an orange-based red and v indulgent to the complexion (I am looking somewhat exhumed at the moment and it works on me...)

motherinferior · 20/05/2016 16:06

Also with red lippies Do Not Go Cheap. Almost always a false economy. And I am a massive cheapskate usually!

motherinferior · 20/05/2016 16:10

Matte Crimson

The Crepey Buds Of May
hattymattie · 20/05/2016 16:29

Ooh MI - that's not bad at all, although you are much paler complexion wise than I. I love Clinique lipsticks though so I'll go and try this I prefer crimson to orange based. I bought Kiko, Velvet Passion Matte lipstick no.317. It was only 8 euros and has staying power. I think it is just a bit strong for me. I also bought a liner pencil which is a new departure for me but a it was all so cheap, I felt I could experiment.

Crem - you'll need a bidet!

motherinferior · 20/05/2016 16:57

The Clinique is a true red - a lot of them pull pink on me (I'm so S&B). The other red lippie addict is of course the toujours glam GGG...

Crepeys, I am also trying to do more with mascara/eyeliner as I go greyer. All advice would be well appreciated (I have already picked Monty's brains)!

herbaceous · 20/05/2016 17:11

I like a red lip.

Re eyes, I tend to draw a line over the top lashes in pencil, not one of those pens that the young people use as the crepey flesh tends to produce a wobbly line. Black/brown mascara. Nothing on bottom lashes.

Having seen some unguarded photos of me being drunk last weekend, I'm eyeing the dye once again. When I compose myself to look in the mirror, my grey front looks like of insouciant. In the pictures it just looks nana.

magimedi · 20/05/2016 17:19

Hope you are OK now, MrsS.

I've given up on make up - am allergic to most eye stuff & any foundation etc just falls into the wrinkles & looks dire! Swipe of lippy is the most I ever do.

If anyone needs a laugh have a look athe picture in the first post on this thread!

NUFC69 · 20/05/2016 18:25

I absolutely cannot wear red lipstick - it's like a slash of blood across my face.

Herbs, you can walk from Bamburgh to Seahouses along the beach, anyhow. We usually take the little road to the golf course in Bamburgh, there is some parking, and just through the dunes to the beach. Don't forget to visit the little Grace Darling Museum. We have been threatening to take a boat trip to the Farne Islands (from either Seahouses or Amble) to see the puffins. I would love a mini MU, but I appreciate that when on holiday with the family it ,isn't not be possible. Hatty mentioned Holy Island, our DC used to love watching the tide come in (on the mainland) and see the idiots who had left it late. Can you tell I am getting excited for you?

I spent the afternoon doing housework: the cherry tree in the back garden is losing its blossom and there were petals everywhere in the house.

Herbs, last August on the beach at Bamburgh.

bigTillyMint · 20/05/2016 18:53

Herbs, do not be fooled by the blue sky - last time we were there, in August, I was wearing 5 layers! The DC (probably about 7 and 9) were hardily running about in their wetsuits of course!

Lalsy · 20/05/2016 18:55

BTM, how is dd now?

Cremo · 20/05/2016 19:18

MI no clue. I have told Dh and he is horrified and says he'll stock up on disposable gloves says it'll be alright. ( he's trying not to retch)

Also a fan of red lippy. But matte matte matte. I need a pinky one due to high coloured cheeks. Or coral is ok too. I liked Mac 'vinyl' but I think it's been archived.

BTM hope Dd is better today.

Lalsy · 20/05/2016 19:20

Crem, you poor love!

MrsSchadenfreude · 20/05/2016 19:35

I have large dressing in the middle of my forehead. And it is sore. Scar should be tiny though. Doctor who did it was Ukrainian, the nurses assisting were Filippina and Polish. And they were all lovely.

DH is dropping me at the station tomorrow for the Journey Of Sadness and Stress.

I cannot wear red lippy. My mouth is too small. I do love a matte nude though.

My nickname as a child was Pork Chop. Nuff said. (Do you remember the puppet Lamb Chop?)

MrsSchadenfreude · 20/05/2016 19:38

Crem, I have had both arms in slings before, when I had lymphangitis in both arms and was being pumped full of antibiotics, but I just took them out of the slings to wipe my arse. So no help there, sorry. You need a Japanese toilet. (I always find the "front cleanse" quite, ahem, exciting. Blush)
