Err, how did that happen with no one noticing!
It's because we're all on the dark and stormy, sloe gin and prosecco innit.

Sorry for the not v inspired title but I panicked.

Another pearl of wisdom from Microherbs! I love the World according to ds.😌
DQ I also hear Sardinia is bella bella. I have it on myvery long travel wish list.
MI buon viaggio!
Beachy , Rudy, Hatty As you were. The bloke said no. Going to try next place.

CointreauVersial · 18/05/2016 21:36

I've just been dragging DD1 kicking and screaming through the Chemistry syllabus in preparation for tomorrow's exam. She had a low moment earlier on, and there was much book-hurling and lip-wobbling, but she's much happier now we've gone through everything. I knew that Chemistry degree would come in handy one day. Hmm

Yay, Hatty - will be nice to meet you in September! And Crem - I will be armed with plastic, folding, coinage....whatever is required. Looking forward to hearing what you are planning.

Collymollypuff · 18/05/2016 23:49

Just popping in to wish fortitude to all fellow exam endurers. Have not caught up but I think I can do Sept and of course will pay. Sardinia sounds fab, MI, enjoy. Sorry for missing all other news...will catch up ultimately, I dare say. Grin

Wish I had a Mirena coil to remove - sounds great Rudy!

Collymollypuff · 19/05/2016 09:35

Stress can also result in weight loss, BTM - I have lost half a stone inadvertently! Grin Confused I agree the other positive results from Mirena removal sound fab - wish I had one to take out as well. Maybe I could imagine I've had one taken out, and persuade myself of the positive effects...

Mine rarely ask for The Talk... suspect it's because they're surrounded by info all the time around the house, given the subject matter I teach...

herbs glad you're feeling a little uplifted by a good days teaching Smile

Mi get packing....how very exciting. Do you have your holiday capsule wardrobe sorted out Grin ...you deserve a break from it all. Why are flights always at the bloody crack these days....?

CV that was me yesterday too. Plenty of tearful moments. I, of course don't have a chemistry background (seriously impressed with your degree...) and have had to learn the whole bloody curriculum on my own first. And I thought I'd completed my education yonks ago. I am now proud to be able to tell the difference between an alkane and an alkene for my troubles. Poor DD...she struggles with it all so. I took her out for tea and cake at 5.30 yesterday. We'd been at it since 8.30am. She's sitting the exam as I type. One more to cross off the list, I guess.

That's quite a result rudy. Bit like how I felt when I started HRT. Apart from the weight loss of course, which only starvation and deprivation can achieve in my case. I lose weight when I'm insanely happy and in love Hmm. I suppose that counts for exercise of sorts Grin

Well I think I've been well and truly scammed in respect of DDs trainers. I'm going to tell her but wanted to wait till after the exam. I'll get her to choose another pair, and she also wants another ear piercing which is part of her present. Poor child has to sit a physics paper in her birthday.

Trying to find things to look forward to. DH and I are going to the flat on bank hol weekend with the DC coming down later...on the Sunday. I have booked beachy and my favourite West Sussex hotel for belated birthday lunch for DD and DH who are two days apart. DH who is being very nice to me at the moment, is sending me there in one of my spa days the day before.

Oh and molls we have finally booked out Switzerland trip and thank you so much for the guides! Flying to Zurich, and then training it to Lucerne for a few days. Then taking The Golden Pass train line (three separate train trips on the scenic route) eventually ending up in Montreux for the remainder of the trip and flying home from Geneva. Smile

I use Geneva airport quite often (visiting DS &co). It is the MOST expensive airport in the world - so take sarnies!! And if you take an empty water bottle through security you can fill it in the loos. Geneva airport is built upon a big natural spring & all its water comes from it!

I may moan that I am old, getting a bit creaky & fat but I am so delighted to be finished with periods, contraception & the menopause - it is the major consolation of being in my 60's.

I have just booked a last minute deal to Corfu for us. Off in just over 2 weeks. There was nearly 40% off. Have never been to Corfu but have always wanted to so am most excited. And the apart has a washing machine which means I can travel really light

I do feel for the holiday companies - they can't sell them at all at the moment, but am delighted to take advantage.

Bon courage to all those taking exams & looking after those doing so.

bigTillyMint · 19/05/2016 11:09

Sadly stress seems to have the opposite effect on meSad!

Rose your bank hol sounds lovely, and the Swiss trip sounds very grown up and civilisedEnvy

Cremo · 19/05/2016 11:56

Gosh Rudy, that's quite something. As long as you feel great you will beam sunshine. !
I on the other hand feel like a complete blob. HRT makes it impossible to loose weight , or so Ive found. I eat quite a lo-cal fresh, diet and do my 10 squillion steps, Pilates and swim. and still I am a blob. I am coming to terms with acceptance I'm afraid.

Dd got through he ESH exam yesterday just about. Very hard paper apparently. Dear help the exam laden wee-uns.Sad

Geneva Airport was the scene of the great Sausage Swindle. Passing through on ski-ing trip and absolutely ravenous ( on the Swiss side)
Dsis, dbil and I went for a plate of Frankfurters and mash and I paid by card as we had no Swiss francs. When I checked my CC bill I had paid £95,00 for 3 meals. With water. I nearly passed out and had to go back to dsis and beg her for recompense.

bigTillyMint · 19/05/2016 12:43

Yes Cremo, Geneva airport is the most terrible rip-offAngry

And HRT is responsible for all my wobbly bits too.

herbaceous · 19/05/2016 17:30

I'm not on HRT and am a fat bastard. I blame lack of exercise and gluttony.

You can all breathe a sigh of relief, crepeys. I went to my voluntary school, and the head teacher wasn't in. The deputy head asked to have a word < pant soil > but just wanted to make sure everything was alright, and I wasn't worried. She allayed all my fears. I told my mentor woman I wanted to be a TA, and she said "You would be brilliant". Then I went into the classroom and all the kiddies ran over shouting my name and hung off me. Then I helped a boy write '8 legs' for his 'facts about a spider' and his face lit up.

And then I went to my adult ed gig, and met the big boss for the first time ever, ready to rant, but he was really nice! And knows it's shit! And asked me to tell him all the problems with admin! So now I like it again.

I'm thinking TA during the day and one adult evening class a week could be the way forward...

motherinferior · 19/05/2016 18:02

By day, she was a TA. By night, an adult ed teacher. Coming soon to an academic institution near you: Herbaceous, the incredible multi-talented pedagogue.

herbaceous · 19/05/2016 18:11

With you on higher education, Stropps on SEN and BTM on the more challenging pupils, we can take on the world. Or start a consultancy, which ever would be the most profitable.

Outcome of career summit last night however was that I really should try to earn a bit more money, so cannot carry on as at present!

How are other beleaguered crepeys holding up? And their exam-burdened offspring?

NU - DP has now become keen on Northumberland for hols, so I'm looking at cottages in Seahouses, Alnwick and various places beginning with B. I want to be near/on the beach, near nice food and near castles. Not much to ask, surely...

Collymollypuff · 19/05/2016 18:20

I long for a hol in Northumberland, esp the Alnwick gardens. Dh always wants exotic/abroad though. Really glad you are off to Switzerland, Rose - feel free to take the guidebooks, I can get them back off you after. Agree re Geneva airport rip-off.

Dd is happily (for me) mainly revising with friends in their lovely homes rather than wrecking my kitchen/house. I will be glad when exams are over.

bigTillyMint · 19/05/2016 18:22

Herbs, that's why we do it - the children are the reasonSmile

DS said Chemistry was OK - phew! His next one is not till next Wed. DD has Eng Lit tomorrow, and is currently napping!

Northumberland is beautiful, definitely recommend it, but take your woollies and waterproofs. NU's your woman!

Rosebag · 19/05/2016 18:24

Thanks for the warning about Geneva airport. We shall smuggle in leftovers from breakfast! Corfu sounds good MM Smile

Actually I am now getting that childish excitement that gets me every time I contemplate a trip to the flat...I am such a sad person Grin. Anyway, birthday lunch is booked, and much more importantly, so is my spa day...hooray.

Crem you aren't a blob. I have had a blobby day in the service of others. DD said Chemistry was ok but she couldn't do the last question. After a 2 hour Maths lesson this afternoon, she looks wiped out and is coming down with DS's cold I think. Boo. DH is away on business til the weekend.

Herbs glad its working out...you are a legend, so you are Smile Star

In other news what do Crepeys think of this place for the next play reading which will be in the autumn? They have excellent spaces to hire and its within budget....
spaces

Rosebag · 19/05/2016 18:27

Agree, Northumberland is wild and beautiful.

MrsSchadenfreude · 19/05/2016 18:56

DD1 said her French IB was "OK". I would worry more if she thought it was easy in case that meant she had cocked it up.

I spend a disproportionate amount of time in Geneva and can vouch for the ridiculousness of the prices there, particularly at the airport. I loathe Geneva with a passion. Had an interview for a job there a few years ago and very grateful I didn't get it.

Herbs, that sounds a great way forward, job wise. But consultancy would probably be more profitable.

CV - if you wanted to jump on a number 12, 159 or 453 bus from Trafalgar Square, just over Westminster Bridge to Lower Marsh, there is an excellent Italian that does GF pizza and pasta. The owner is coeliac. It's called Cotto, and will take you 10 minutes on the bus. Or go to Gaby's on Charing Cross Road for falafel and interesting salads. Also good for GF-ers.

Rose, let us know the dates of the play reading, won't you? Will that hot young American man be starring again? BlushGrin

In S & B news, I have bought two cropped cashmere cardigans from Boden, one black, one orange. I like them - they seem a lot less matronly than the full length ones. I also bought a curved waist dress, which I think is nice, but is much too big, so will go back and be returned for a smaller size. The neckline is good, and I think it could be a Useful Dress.

Trying not to think of hospital appointment tomorrow. Will not rush into work afterwards, but will have a coffee afterwards and maybe a mooch round Borough Market and a gentle amble back to work. They get enough hours out of me for the rest of the year.

Collymollypuff · 19/05/2016 19:03

I've cut and pasted that gf info, MrsS, which I know you've given me before. I'm all behind on crepey updates, so apols for not knowing what you have to go to hospital for, but best of luck with it. Thanks I wouldn't go into work at all .

hattymattie · 19/05/2016 19:16

Rudy - thanks for the heads up on mirena - I've had mine in 8 years now and the gynae said there were no hormones left on it so I don't know if I'll get the positive effect you've had. I was afraid of flooding though.

Lalsy · 19/05/2016 20:27

How lovely to have some bits of good news on jobs, coil, hols Herbs, Rose, Rudy and Magi.

Rudy and Molly, I hope things settle down for you both.

Hatty, it will be very nice to meet you in September.

MI, have a brilliant time. Were you happy with the obit?

Lalsy · 19/05/2016 20:28

And MrsS, good luck tomorrow. I hope it is quick and reassuring and you can bunk off for a bit.
