Non-crispy pixie hair products?

I have recently (well, in the past six months) had my hair cut into what I believe the young people call a 'pixie'.

It needs some kind of product to ensure it looks faintly 'with it' rather than 'trucker'. I've been using my partner's shaping cream, but it leaves my hair a bit crispy. There is a bewildering array out there - gum, wax, putty, gel, fibre, etc etc. What do MN's many pixie-sporters use to keep it groovy yet not greasy, flaky or indeed crispy?

VO5 matte putty.

Came on to say the same as Crevice

It is the only product that works for me

I used to use Tigi bedhead.

I use Aveda control paste on my pixie cut.

Crevice and Room - I can't find anything called exactly VO5 matte putty. Is it this?

I've used VO5 paste this one with success, but my preferred product is Redken putty this one

Toni and Guy wax stick, it will be in the mens bit.

I use a tiny bit of black &white pomade.

It smells lovely, is cheap and does the job.

I've also got an old pot of samy dry icing restyling stuff, which I use if I'm going out, I don't like It to use every day because it makes my hair stick up madly the next day and I can't always be arsed to wash it out in the morning.

I actually use Wella Shockwaves Matt Clay Messy
Same tub as this but mine says messy.
My hair is very thick and full of kinks but after trying everything, this really works for me.

I've got fine straight hair, if that makes a difference.

Since I've given up on box dye and embraced henna , my hair is soft not woolly.

I've put some Lush R&B in (as a conditioner) and not fully rinsed. So enough to give weight/texture but not gunky.

I went in and sniffed the henna In lush today, 70. But my hair still has a lot of bleach, so I will save it until next cut. Do you go for a reddy henna?? Also is the R&B conditioner solid,I don't really get on well with those.

American Crew Fiber (thicker), or Forming Cream (creamier) both good on short hair. A little goes a long way. Found in some shops or online. Smells divine.

Roomforasmallone - my hair is very thick and full of kinks too. I've just had mine cut short after having some form of boring bob for years and years and the cut is awful - I think it might be that it's not short enough, so I'm tempted to go and ask for the full Judi Dench, but I'm scared I'll end up with the dreaded scrubbing brush effect. How short have you gone with yours?

Aveda pomade in the blue pot, expensive but smells heavenly and is very soft.

My longest bit is nearly 3 inches.
It's sort of a fringe which gets swept to one side with my constant fiddling, so it looks shorter.
I have it thinned once a month.
Any longer and it pouf's out IYSWIM

Hugo have they discontinued the icing restyled? I found it amazing for using with curlers but haven't been able to get any for a while.

The vo5 paste is good and L'Oréal do a good light mousey pasty stuff in a brownish tub which is much lighter and def not crispy. It kept my horrible post chemo hair looking semi presentable both when it was quite fluffy and when it went through a coarse phase.

Does your hairdresser thin it with thinning scissors or take slices out? I find that thinning scissors just make it more poufy because the shorter strands make the longer ones stand up even more! I think I just need to find a decent haircutter; am considering going to a barber instead of a women's hair salon on the basis that they spend more time cutting short hair and less time doing highlights etc.

I don't use it personally but my boys did (when they had short hair) based on the barbers recommendation, it's Schwarzkopf got2b beach matt (surfer look matt paste)
