If you have a 32" waist, what size are you?

Currently losing weight and though my pounds and inches are falling, my dress size isn't! And it's a bit depressing.

Well I'm currently measuring 40-32-42 and I'm in anything from a 12 to a 16 because of ridiculous sizing in clothes!

My goal is to get to 36-28-28.

If you're losing pounds and your inches are falling, how is your dress size not changing?

Obviously I meant 36-28-38...

I would say, depends on where you are shopping. I am size 12, take 10 in gap, could be any waist size in jeans in Uniqlo from 26 - 30, size 12 dresses two sizes too big in Boden, but size 12 trousers fine, can't breathe in size 30 Topshop jeans. Size 12 in most shops, but I have 32f bra size.

Hmm. I started at a 38" waist, and a size 20. I've only dropped to an 18.

I've lost 36lb in total and it's going well but it's just taking ages to drop a clothes size. I feel I'll be dieting forever to get anywhere near a lovely size 12.

I think it depends on your height and body shape. ..i have never measured my waist, but I am wearing size 32 levi jeans and I am size 14-16 depending on the shop...I am 5ft 9, pear shaped and my bmi hovers around 25/26 so slightly overweight.
I recently lost over a stone and didn't change dress size-at my height it takes about 2 stone, I just had to tighten my belts!
Take comfort in the fact you will be looking a lot better and that is a far healthier waist size which is a good indicator of long term health. Dress size is pretty meaningless--my bum is a 16, my boobs are a 12- i don't fit any dress size.

38-30-39 here and a 12 (mostly)

Wow, well done on the weight loss. Has your bra size changed, and have you got the correct size? That can make a huge difference to whether clothes fit well or not.

I don't think a 34D can be right - that equates to an approx. 38" around-the-bust measurement, that's not a size 18!

Yes I have a 38 bust measurement. The 34D came from the bra intervention thread on here and I'm pretty sure is right.

It sounds like you might be more of a 14- 16!

When I started losing weight I was wearing 18s and 20s but going by my actual measurements I was at least a 22.

Clothes sizes aren't always the best guide. Well done on your 36 pounds

At 31.5 inches I should have been a 16, but could fit into a 10 in Next. Size inflation means a 32 inch waist will probably go into a 12 in most places, but it depends on the hip and bust size if the clothes have to fit over them too.

I have a 32 inch waist and I'm a reliable size 14 in most shops.

Apart from the madness of sizing, not everyone likes their clothes to fit in the same way anyway. So, in one dress I might be able to physically get into a 10, 'fit' the 12 but look (to my mind) much, much better in the 14. I'm allegedly a 12. There are people my size and shape who would choose the fit of the 10 or 12 or the 14.

Zara have very small sizing, the smallest on the high street AFAIK. They say you're a 16 based on the waist measurement. here. Topshop are famously teeny in their sizing too, they say you're halfway between a 14 and a 16 - can't link but you can click through on the site.

But, regardless of the fit you prefer 6 inches off the waist is absolutely, indisputably more than one dress size off.

I've just read about the theory that your neck circumference is half your waist's. Not relevant to dress sizes, but sounds very interesting. I haven't measured mine yet.

My neck is 14" so not quite! Maybe it means 28" waist is my natural size that I should be?!

I know a 6" loss should mean more than one dress size but it really hasn't. My hips have decreased at a similar rate (lost 7"). My bust measurement started at 42".

Which items are we talking about, specifically? What sort of fabric. Same or different shops?

Just regular stuff, jeans (next) same style exactly I just bought a smaller size down.

I bought some T shirts (fitted) from sainsbury's and two thin sweaters, u don't want to spend a lot of money as I'm still losing weight.

Shoes have shrunk two sizes though!

Knickers, coat and cardis in a 20 all still fit fine, not too baggy or anything.

Feet. Obviously my feet have shrunk not the shoes!
