Revelation: silicone in hair products is the work of the devil!

Used Dove volumising shampoo the other day as I'd run out of my usual expensive siliconey shampoo - thinking that my hair would turn into a frizz bomb. It dried so easily and smoothly. Thought it must be a fluke but since experimenting and combining with a non-silicone (cheapy) conditioner, my curly frizz bomb has been transformed into a sleek, but thick swishy delight. (no hair products either, just a little glycerine before drying). Can't believe the amount of money I've spent on products which have actually been making my hair worse!!

I know - it's amazing isn't it? My hair is now softer, shinier and less frizzy than it's ever been. And curvier too! I've been silicone and sulphate free since October.
Never going back!!

Vertigo I used Dove volumising shampoo (no silicone as it turns out) and bought Garnier Ultimate Blends Shine conditioner (a couple of pounds in Tesco) - I chose it because there were no ingredients ending in '-one'. It was a wee experiment and because I've shelled out so much on hair products I didn't want another expensive mistake cluttering my shelves! Will use all those up on the DC and stick to my new cone-free cheapies!

Thanks Lake - I have tried the Curly girl but I like to blow dry my hair straight. Didn't make the connection with silicone until recently - duh! Kicking myself. Have had rubbish hair for years because of this!! why do manufacturers use this? Is it so we have to keep washing our hair and use more product [cynical] or do silicones suit some hair types?

We curly girls have known this for some time!

slugs I've actually recently given up using moisturiser (rebel) and my skin is so much better - much less shiny. I wonder if it's actually something to do with silicones too...

I'm always on the look-out for the holy grail when it comes to defrizzing, and I've heard of going silicone-free. But surely it only works for some people, whereas silicones work for loads of people - otherwise they wouldn't be so popular....?

What silicone free moisturisers are there then? And foundation??

I don't know Dowager but I was unknowingly using silicones - they seem to be copiously present in shampoos and coniditioners aimed at people with frizzprone hair. How many people are struggling with bad hair days when they think they're choosing the right products, not realising this is actually making their hair worse? [stands down from soapbox]

Ah - see slug I've found using pure glycerine in my soaking wet hair is quite a good product to retain moisture before I blow dry it! Different strokes...!
But you're absolutely right - there's very little choice - and silicone free products don't seem to be highlighted on the shelves.

I go to a hairdresser that specialises in curly hair and he recommends products that are both sulphate and silicone free. The Bodyshop Rainforest range is good for this and you can often get them cheaper with a voucher code!

Thanks Destiny I did try the Rainforest range a while back but it was relegated to the shelf of shame in the bathroom. I wonder if that's because I already had silicone build up in my hair or something?

Been silicone free for nearly 2 years now (cept for the occasion dandruff shampoo, but I follow that with my "freefrom" shampoo).
My bonkers waves/curls are still bonkers, but my hair is in such good condition. Not all dry and straw like.

Have recently found Happy Naturals at Sainsbos. There will be an epic toddler stylee tantrum is this one is discontinued looking at you Boots for killing Naked.

I think hair dye is the devil for my hair but I'm not ready to go grey yet. When it's time for a top-up my hair condition is at its best and as soon as I dye it the frizz is back.

I've noticed DD's normally beautiful silky sleek hair has been looking a bit fluffy and untidy since using up all my old silicony crap on her. [bad mother]

I know boobashka. I left it for a couple of months but I found the grey too depressing. If it was all grey I would leave it but it's just right down the middle.

I told my hairdresser this and she told me to just give up and go back to the "evil" silicone shampoos. Does this make her the devil?

Urghh, my hair. Where to start?..

Most people compliment me on my hair, because it's very thick and long, but naturally it's frizzy, dry and somewhere in between wavy and curly. I have this unintentional layer at the back, where it's so damaged and split and much shorter than the rest of my hair. I disguise it well though....I think I had Olaplex treatment a couple of months a go and I'm rather underwhelmed with the results. In fact, can't really tell a difference, so that was 90 quid well spent!!

I think I need to invest in a really good moisturising conditioner. Anyone care to share their recommendations? Sorry to hijack OP.
