Revelation: silicone in hair products is the work of the devil!

Used Dove volumising shampoo the other day as I'd run out of my usual expensive siliconey shampoo - thinking that my hair would turn into a frizz bomb. It dried so easily and smoothly. Thought it must be a fluke but since experimenting and combining with a non-silicone (cheapy) conditioner, my curly frizz bomb has been transformed into a sleek, but thick swishy delight. (no hair products either, just a little glycerine before drying). Can't believe the amount of money I've spent on products which have actually been making my hair worse!!Shock

I love the Faith in Nature coconut shampoo and conditioner. My hair was awful, lank but dry at the same time from all the silicones, deep treatments made no difference..switching to FiN has made a huge difference! I also really like the solid coconut shampoo that Lush make.

Faith sin nature is amaIng, I agree. It has completely transformed my hair. Interestingly enough the colour has changed too. I don't know whether it's because it's not coated in shit any more, but my hair is now darker and redder and really shiney.

How about TRESemme?
I have very long strait hair and masks from TRESemme help me untangle it.
It makes them smooth and shiny.

I am confused by this thread. Dove volume shampoo contains Dimethiconol which is a type of silicone.
Glad it works for your hair OP, but it's not a silicone free product.

pearlylum · 22/04/2016 21:44

Everpure shampoo contains 3 different types of silicone.
DIVINYLDIMETHICONE/DIMETHICONE COPOLYMER; AMODIMETHICONE

I've currently got exzema on my scalp, and after asking MN for haircare advice - because the itching is bloody awful - I was told to try MooGoo. Not only has it helped with the exzema, but my hair is really lovely and shiny, soft and not remotely frizzy. I use the Milk shampoo and the Cream conditioner. Definite winner.

the Wella is shampoo AND conditioner for £26, and it's 1 L bottle of each. To compare the Everpure that's just been mentioned is £6 for 250ml, so it's actually decent value.

Any suggestions for a volumising shampoo for thinning coloured/highlighted hair?? I'm using Viviscal shampoo & conditioner at the moment, but it seems quite drying on my already dried-out ends (and its £10 each for shampoo & conditioner!)

Tried Ever Pure Aveda, not worth the price. Also tried the rosemary one, it's just not worth it.

Best silicone free shampoo? Johnson's Baby Shampoo. Works every time.

That and Alberto Balsam Tea Tree Tingle.

I buy my products from the Cantu range - nothing nasty in them and do wonders for my curly wavy hair. Obviously not for everyone especially those prone to greasy hair as the range is extremely rich but it does for me so I'm sticking to what I know. Smile As it's written on all their products "
NO MINERAL OIL, SULFATES, PARABENS, SILICONES, PHTHALATES, GLUTEN, PARAFFIN or PROPYLENE." cantubeauty.com/

bigbuttons · 23/04/2016 08:48

OP, there are cones in your Dove shampoo Confused

starfish4 · 23/04/2016 10:05

Can hair sometimes look worse before it gets better if you go silicone free? I've been using Faith in Nature shampoo and Garnier Blends conditioner for the last couple of weeks - it looks shiney but if you look at it closely it looks like it's got residue of some sort that hasn't rinsed off.

WhatTheActualFugg · 23/04/2016 10:25

This is somewhat of a revelation for me. I have very thick, very frizzy wavy hair.

I had already been thinking about switching to Neal's Yard.

This is one of their conditioner. I think it's silicone free. Am I right? Is it OK?

I use the body shop banana shampoo and conditioner. Both cone free and leave hair super soft and shiny
