Shorts with tights?

Following on from somebody's thread regarding age, do you wear shorts with tights and if you do what age are you?
Is there an age where you just shouldn't?

I found some lovely denim shorts in next the other day, they come halfway down my thighs, I hate my knees so I considered them with tights, but then decided i was too old (37)
DH thinks people who wear shorts with tights look daft :(

My dh would give that response :) He is practical. Shorts are for the summer to keep you cool why In the hell would you wear them in the spring or winter.

To me though Its like wearing tights with a short skirt except well they are shorts.

I have just spent 4 days in North Wales wearing shorts over thick leggings/tights with biker boots or wellies when negotiating the thick mud on the farm we've been staying at. I am 41 and this is my standard outfit for camping and seaside holidays as it's never warm enough to wear shorts alone on UK coast. I wOuldn't wear this combo in the city though.

I wear shorts with tights and I am mid forties. I think about it thus. My legs are probably my best feature, high waisted shorts suit my figure, I wear 80 denier or thicker tights, I keep the shorts short but definitely decent (longer ones can look a bit weird). It is no different from wearing a short skirt and tights - except you are less likely to flash your backside when bending down in shorts.

(Also saw the thread where the OP posted pictures and the decision was almost unanimous for the shorts.)

I agree, short shorts with thick tights is same as mini skirt and thick tights but more practical.

I think it looks OK on 10 - 13 yr olds.

I don't now, as I'm 46 and have put a bit of weight on so am now a 12/14 instead of a 10/12. I did until about three years ago though.

I've not seen a thread on this for ages. I used to believe it was more practical than a short skirt and that it purely depended on whether your legs were up to it.

It seems I was wrong. If I remember correctly, the cut off point is 40 and the real danger is that someone might see you from behind and think you're younger than you are. And then when you turn around, they're traumatised for ever.

Something like that anyway.

Agree with Back - it's OK if you are wearing them for practical reasons ie: camping but swanning around in tights and shorts trying to look stylish makes you look ridiculous - in my opinion and doesn't every other youngster wear denim shorts with black tights and think they look cool Hmm. Hideous fashion trend especially if you've got chunky legs.

I love shorts with tights as I have long legs, they are my best/only feature.
Used to wear this look a lot on nights out but now at almost 36, I feel a bit too old Sad

I'm wearing denim shorts today with brown thick tights and brown boots. I look OK and I'm 43. I actually feel really fat at moment and my legs are my best bit so if actually makes me feel better wearing them!

I like this look

But I'm having to reassess the whole 'legs are my best feature' thing after I heard a group of teenage boys saying something approving and then looking very embarrassed when I turned round and they saw my 46 year old face. I was wearing a skirt and tights at the time but I think shorts/tights is and even younger 'look'

At the age you don't feel comfortable wearing shorts and tights! Everyone is different! As long as it's not those knicker shorts - nobody should be wearing them!

I tend to do it with leggings rather than tights but the look is obviously the same. I have and would do it with tights before. My shorts are pretty much hot pants. I'm 32 and I don't give a shit what anyone else thinks!

I don't think it is sad though, Narp. I think it's funny - but the laugh is on the boys, not on you. And as Itgoes says, if they have even half a brain between them, they'll learn something from it.

Interesting views. Very mixed. I have NEVER worn this combo. I do like it though. I think it looks quite nice and with culottes around, seems to me its a take on that aswell. This look has passed me by. I have felt too old for it since I was in my thirties. Just wondered about others thoughts on this.

41 and wear this look all the time. Very comfortable and don't have to worry about being unlady like getting in and out cars etc when wearing a mini skirt. Sure there's clothing others wear on here that I don't like, but it's each to their own and what feels good for them
