What does your DH/DP wear on his feet when wearing shorts?

DD has begged that we find DH new footwear for the summer. Currently, his preferred choice with shorts is walking sandal types (which DD hates) or trainers with socks, which I hate...

Any suggestions?

Leather slip on sandals?

If DH wanted to look like a Floridian (and I might not sell it to him like that...) what would he wear on his feet?

Madonna Well, of course we have a lot of variety here, but I would have to say deck shoes (we don't worry here too much about a David Cameron inference). That's what DH wears, but he also actually spends most of his free time on boats.

I wear toms without socks, the key is to have two pairs (or maybe a pair of vans and a pair of toms?) and alternate which ones you wear. If they have a chance to fully air out between wears they don't get smelly.

I know its a jokey thread, but the number of women saying they would ban their dh/ dp from wearing certain shoes/ socks is a bit alarming!

My husband really needs my intervention. It's best this way.

What about xero shoes? DH doesn't like flip flops, but wanted something light weight. I kept telling him about "barefoot" shoes - because I spend most of the summer out of shoes if possible and wanted to order something similar...

Anyway, he bought a pair last summer and lived in them, he rlly really likes them. So they have a man's stamp of approval.

Ugh, careful of insisting on trainers (or boat shoes) and no socks - have you considered the potential smell?

If DH or I were to wear trainers without socks the smell would be rancid. I find thin cotton socks are just the best at keeping my feet comfortable and non-sweaty, hate trainer socks because of the slippage thing and also they are usually sports style and too thick & spongy, making my feet overheat and smell.

Decatholon do pretty awesome thin just-below the ankle socks that are thin and don't slip down.

I think the only thing for it is to pray for a dreadful summer...

At least trainers can be shoved in the wash with lots of antibacterial powder. I don't know what you do with boat shoes. Spray them with lots of scholl and hire an exorcist?

deck shoes

But that's just my opinion Grin

I can't get my DH to wear shorts and nothing will get him to do so, not even when it's 40 degrees. He occasionally wears long swimming shorts in the garden or local sport club and a pair of havaianas. But that's very very rare.

I think trainers and socks look great with sports style shorts. I'm not keen on boat/deck shoes, too Etonian. I like chunky boots or skate style shoes with trainer socks and shorts.

I suggest Sperrys. They are a preppy, casual look.

Agree with Seneca, nobody over age 20ish wears Converse in the US. Converse with half calf socks was The Look for teen boys at the DCs' high school last warm season, along with plaid bermuda shorts and striped shirts. Twas quite a shocking autumn until thankfully the weather turned cold around Halloween.

Merrell are reasonable looking. Keen is another brand you could look at. They make flip flops too. They look a little orthopedic but they are comfortable.

For most of us who do proper walking socks stop massive blisters on ankles. That is the issue. No one has really solved that. Even trainer socks can roll down under the shoe and can look a bit silly anyway.

Ahhh but I love the feeling of socks and sandals - feet are cool but not sweaty, sandal stays clean and grit free on the inside. FYI I am not English.

I hate Converse with a passion and so long as your DH isn't too weedy or pale I'm sure he can pull off the look with apolmb. But short sleeved button down shirts in any checked material send me running for the hills... tricky though because t-shirts accentuate moobs.

grown men do not look good in shorts, and should not wear them unless on the beach or doing sport.

Shorts and crocs are ok for kids only.

In my very mean and bitchy opinion Wink

I think men look fine in shorts as long as they're of the knee length variety. Shiny white football style shorts are of course an abomination. Unless you're on a football pitch!

Me too. I hate short sleeved shirts on men, rolled up sleeves looks so much better.

Polo shirts are generally fine though.

polo shirts can look like bigger sized little boys tops though,

you know, the stripy variety, or the ones with dinosaurs Wink

My kids used to wear stripy polos, shorts and crocs, but even super un-trendy DS (13) no longer wears this

I think a man wearing a polo shirt should stick to navy.

I think given the embarrassment that our toddlers sometimes cause us, then it's perfectly fine to mortify our teenagers. he's a grown man, what he chooses to wear is not under the control of your DD.

Dh usually wears either his Birkenstocks or Trainers and socks.
