Now searching through our million DVDs for ones my sister feels will be suitable to watch with dad. No gore or violence and nothing too common. Have found Belle ( lovely film): suspect Legally Blonde and Run Fat Boy Run too Common. Walk the Line has incomprehensible popular music references (yes). Anyone remember if anyone gets chopped up in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon?

Cremo · 19/04/2016 20:49

Oh MI , I admire you so much. A sense of humour is ultimately the best medicine sometimes.

I have made some mashed potatoes with a a couple of roast chicken legs for Poppa and a big pan of sweet potato soup for DM ( thank you MI, Thanksfor your Emergency frozen SP soup formula, and to Sainsbo garage for stocking said item). Mum's worryingly weak, and I don't know how in the name of Aer Lingus she got home in this state. GrinConfused I have tucked her back in bed and made up the spare room for self.
Thanks for good wishes all.

MI, if Eddie the Eagle was out on DVD I would suggest it - just been to see it with DH and it was feel-good and inspiring (and Hugh Jackman with a flat-top and stubble wasn't bad eitherWink) Flowers

Cremo Flowers for you too. It sounds very stressful - they are so lucky to have you near.

motherinferior · 19/04/2016 20:58

Too Common, I fear, BTM.

bigTillyMint · 19/04/2016 21:05

Oh noooo! There are lots of snooty Olympic Officials in itGrin

Would he like a Ronnie Corbett DVD - popular with OAP's?!

motherinferior · 19/04/2016 21:24

PossiblyGrin

CointreauVersial · 19/04/2016 21:27

If it were my DDad he would be cheered greatly by a Blackadder DVD. Or Mrs Brown's Boys

Just back from Parents' Evening for DD2. All good, apart from her complete lack of organisational skills. And her Science teacher mentioned some "acid comments" when she was moved to a new seat in the classroom.

motherinferior · 19/04/2016 21:34

bigTillyMint · 19/04/2016 21:53

Grin CV!

DS has just announced that he was Star of the Week in assembly today (yes, he is in Y10, not primary school)Grin He is really pleased because his HOY also gave him a packet of biscuits and got his certificate out to show us. Awwwwww!

Lalsy · 19/04/2016 22:00

Blimey Crem, that was quick to the rescue, they are lucky. Hope everyone is feeling a bit better in the morning.

BTM, awww. And we now also have "bare prospectuses". And a free tote bag.

MI, Blackadder here too. Or possibly Johnny English.

Blackduck · 19/04/2016 22:13

Cremo so sorry to hear re parents...

MI - erm......

BTM - Grin re ds
Rose so sorry you are feeling down - big hugs and a shoulder if you need it

I have had enough of work and want to quit - the bonkerness of it beggars belief.

motherinferior · 19/04/2016 22:41

I've packed a selection of comfortable but nice-looking garments...plus e-reader and laptop so I can do some work. DSis points out otherwise it'll seem too hovering. She has complicated jumper to knit.

This is not actually the most fun I've ever had, I must say.

Blackduck · 19/04/2016 22:47

It's not exactly something any of us have loads of experience of MI. are thre books on this kind of thing?

MrsSchadenfreude · 19/04/2016 23:16

Pants and gin, MI. No idea re dvds - how about something light and amusing to read? Bill Bryson?

And yes, someone should write a book, if one doesn't exist. There is loads of stuff on what to do afterwards, but nothing on the run up to death - the emotions, what happens when it is drawn out. My uncle and my aunt both seemed much better just before they died - almost suddenly, as if it was their last strength. My uncle was sitting up in bed, talking about what he was going to plant in his garden for next year. My aunt was up and dressed, ate a takeaway, had a couple of glasses of wine and had a nice evening with my mother and my uncle, went to bed and died in her sleep. My other uncle, who had been away with the fairies (probably from the drugs?) was sitting up in bed, laughing and joking with a room full of visitors. And my gran was demanding jellied eels (though didn't eat many of them).

Cremo · 19/04/2016 23:55

Yy to a book, or instruction manual.

Amelie or Choclat or similar?
Old b&w classics that have snappy dialogue ? Thinks Jack Lemmon etc Although that's a minefield I guess.

Have filled in and sent app form with gay abandon. It's a heap of shit, but at least I've Done Something.

BD courage! ma Brave. I say I want to leave every day now.Sad

Cremo :(. Depressing isn't it. I see what I have built being dismantled just to meet some completely meaningless target.....
As one colleague said ' here's a box of maccarno - build a rocket to the moon'.....

Plus my team member AHHH - her sense of priorities is completely skewed....

hattymattie · 20/04/2016 08:09

MI - what about an old boxed set like Yes Minister? Having trouble thinking of films as even in The Sound of Music there's a bit of trauma. Maybe old films from the sixties are a good way to go though.

BD and Crem - I'm so glad I'm out of office politics - even in my lowly role I seem to see a lot of mismanagement and arse covering.

I don't understand what the point is of bare prospectuses - doesn't that essentially boil down to a notebook?

Rose - not sure about the medication - I suspect it's for life. DDad who is a doctor (and is on them) said I should take them - he, who is normally very suspicious of the overmedication in the French health system.

Lalsy · 20/04/2016 08:31

BD and Crem, you must both be so fed up, I hope something better comes up soon.

Hatty Grin: bare = South London for very. Sorry about the meds - but at least it seems clear what you have to do?

Yes, yes to the book. The thing that struck me was how very long each minute is. You are wise to take stuff to do, MI.

motherinferior · 20/04/2016 09:37

Apparently she's perking up. DSis says of course she'll be in rude health when I get there.Smile

motherinferior · 20/04/2016 09:37

Though I take MrsS's point too.

BeachysSandyFlipFlops · 20/04/2016 13:19

I've spent all morning revising my CV - I'd like to be on the move soon. I'm fed up of traipsing up and down and everyone at work being as miserable and snippy as each other.

MI - hope the next few days are as OK as possible - I must admit, I was on holiday the week my dmum was dying. We'd all been in to say goodbye before we left for holiday - I was on the phone all week to dsis and sil who were holding the fort and we went round as soon as we got back. She had waited for us and died that night Sad.

hattymattie · 20/04/2016 13:32

Beachy - so sad but at least you got that last chance to say goodbye.

Lalsy - obvs - my London slang is a bit out of date Confused.

Just had a lovely lunch in a coffee shop which now sells food. Food was unexpectedly fab and reasonably priced.

Simply perfect weather here although I still have to be careful pollen wise for a couple more weeks.

bigTillyMint · 20/04/2016 13:39

Grin Hatty! You gotta get down with the SE London teen-lingo like me and LalsyWink She got lot's of prospectuses!

Blackduck · 20/04/2016 13:46

Beachy me too. The morale here is on the floor and the management are just bonkers. Ridiculous targets that are unachievable but apparently you can't tell them that.
I want a job nearer home and preferably one that doesn't involve dealing with students.....

Lovely here too, but I am stuck in doors.....

Lalsy · 20/04/2016 14:01

Hatty, I was baffled by bare at first. Kept imagining naked people - "he is bare annoying".
