I want to tear off my skin

Started suffering from seborrheic dermatitis on my face when I was around 21. Dermatologist prescribed a steroid cream but neglected to tell me that over time it would thin my skin. I never overused it when having a flare up but did use it for about 12 years so if did have an effect.

I got the dermatitis under kind of control using certain face washes etc but they were expensive so when I ran out I switched to a different brand - dermatologica pre cleanse to body shop camomile cleansing oil and switched Vichy serums. But my skin has reacted so badly I want to claw it off.

For those of you with sensitive skin, what do you use?

My skin is highly reactive and I also tried changing to cheaper brands and reacted badly and it took my skin ages to get back to normal (although my normal is never normal ha ha)

Body shop and Vichy are highly perfumed which is probably why your skin doesn't like them. Where were u buying your dermalogica from?

I couldn't use the pre cleanse my skin didn't get on with it so I do a double cleanse with the ultracalming cleanser

Was getting the dermatologica from a local salon - had gotten through 2 bottles with no issues but I thought I'd read it wasn't the purest cleanser and was almost €40 a bottle. Think I'll switch back though!

I was already using a Vichy serum, can't remember what it was called, 2 bottles as well and I liked it but wasn't actually sure it was doing anything so switched to a cheaper ultra hydrating one which was cheaper as well. Think I'll just switch everything back and go from there!

I'm with you though - my normal is never normal either.

Don't buy it from a salon get it from www.beautythings.co.uk it's cheaper :)
What moisturiser do you use?

I use Clinique anti redness cleanser as I found the dermatologica cleanser meant I had to rub my skin a bit more to get make up off,this one melts it away.My skin is super sensitive and every time I use something else I end up regretting it as my skin flares up.

I use an oil - Josie Maran. I get it in America, my BIL lives there so there's always family going over and back.

I tried the Clinique 3 step system years ago and my skin HATED it. I'm afraid to try Clinique since.

I could never use the 3 step or any wash off or toner.This one is totally different, it soothes my skin as I put it on.Have a feel of it in your local store.I have Seb derm and it would flare up overnight if I didn't use this.

Anything Clinique irritates the hell out of my skin

Have you tried Paula's Choice? They do an entire range for skin that tends to be sensitive or suffer from redness/rosacea.

Have you tried it,I have seen it online but l am a little scared to try.

I don't use that range but I do use some of her other products and find them really good.

Looked at Paula's choice online, looks good.

My main priority is to get everything to settle down before I start adding anything else.

I have seb derm and also used steroid cream for years. The only other thing that worked was neutrogena norwegian formula dermatologist cream, see link below. Everyone's skin is different though but this really changed my life:

Have a look at Moogoo. Very mild, and they have something especially for seb derm which gets rave reviews.

It's technically an eye make up remover but it's a lotion type: Kiehl's Supremely Gentle Eye Makeup Remover. Wet face, apply and gently massage and then rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry. They offer a money back guarantee if it doesn't suit (on all their stuff)

So last night and this morning I've just used Ceraphil & Josie Maran oil and things look calmer already.

It will take a while to calm down altogether though.

I did a lot of research before I found the following...

Cleanser - La Roche Posay Toleraine; I use perfume free micellar water to get any make up off first
Serum - Superdrug Simply Pure Hydrating serum, cheap as chips
Moisturiser - Simple Kind to Skin SPF 30 (currently on offer, about £3 in Boots)
Night moisturiser - La Roche Posay Cicaplast or A-Derma's simplest cream

I have peri oral eczema on my face and Pomphlox eczema on my hands (and just bog standard eczema here and there on rest of me - yay)
As well as steroid creams and other mild cleansers/moisturisers - I have also found the following really help:
Vagisil cream - 2% lidocaine can mean the difference between me getting some sleep or taking a brillo pad to myself. It's for your foof so skin on your face is less delicate than that
Flexitol heel balm - when my hands are not on an all out flare up, this keeps them marginally under control. Smells awful so it's my night time hand cream.

I cleaned out my barhroom cabinet a few weeks ago and discovered a can of eau thetmale spring water spray (it's been there since I had DD 2.5 years ago).

Anyway my skin started tight and itchy today and I sprayed it with the spray and the relief was brilliant. I may have found something that helps!

Clinique Take the Day off Balm. You might like to look at the Eucerin range which was developed for eczema etc and avoid all 'cosmetic' brands.

Bioderma's Atoderm range is very mild and unscented when I periodically get dermatitis, plus an antihistamine tablet helps stop me scratching.

Have you been to see a dermatologist at all or can you get a referral to one? I have seb derm too and was referred to my dermatologist because of my acne. I've been on Roaccutane since Xmas and it's cleared up my dermatitis too. I can't believe it. I keep stroking my face and thinking 'this must be what normal people's skin feels like.' Apart from that I've been using Cetaphil cleanser and moisturiser but I'm not sure how much of a part it has played in clearing it up. It's very gentle on my skin though.

Avene Skin recovery cream is very soothing, and they do a whole range of cleansers and moisturisers for sensitive skin.

I am always recommending it on here.

La Roche Posay Toleraine range is brilliant. I have seb derm alongside being very acne prone so I need something gentle enough not to flare me up, but still effective.
