What do you think about these sandals?

Been obsessing about these since I first saw them in the catalogue:

www.plumo.com/products/Lina-sandals.html

I need new sandals, and have a white canvas bag I could wear them with in the summer. I mostly wear dresses/skirts in the summer, and trousers and jeans when it's colder and for work (we have a pretty laid back work outfits rules, pretty much anything goes; apart from tracksuits I guess).

But are they really worth all this money - what do you think wise Mumsnetters?

I think frumpy is just a personal opinion then. Are there any flat sandals that are not considered frumpy?

PrimalLass · 17/03/2016 09:53

My links? I don't think they look grannyish at all. The style that the OP likes is what my 85 year old auntie would wear.

Yes yours are far more frumpy - sorry Grin I don't think the OP's are, but they are definitely over priced.

Bunbaker · 17/03/2016 09:55

As I said, personal opinion. I think the clumpy, overpriced ones the OP likes are really frumpy.

polyhymnia · 17/03/2016 10:11

I don't think clumpy sandals actually equate to frumpy at the moment because there's a general trend around (and has been for a couple of years) for thick soled 'clumpy' sandals with thick soles. They're definitely a major current 'look'.See fashion mags and retailers such as Whistles. Even Chanel have just introduced embellished thick-soled, Velcro fastened sandals.
I'm happy about this because they're really comfortable too. But the ones in the OP are still just plain frumpy IMO.

fresta · 17/03/2016 10:55

I don't think frump is an opinion to be honest. Something is either fashionable or it isn't. It's fine to like something that's unfashionable but that doesn't make it not frumpy in general opinion. Frumpy in general is wearing something that's gone out of fashion. I think clumpy/retro sandals are in fashion right now so that makes them not frumpy, but those reiker sandals are not the sort of clumpy that is fashionable so this in turn makes them frumpy.

MamaAwayOnBusiness · 17/03/2016 11:41

We should email this thread to Berg fashion library!

Love how a "shall I buy these shoes" question has become a debate about fashion terms. The beauty of Mumsnet. Star

Yes, fresta, agree.

Sparklycat · 17/03/2016 11:52

The models feet are awful Confused

polyhymnia · 17/03/2016 11:56

I think all Reiker is frumpy but it's a perfectly valid choice to wear them if they're comfortable.

HoundoftheBaskervilles · 17/03/2016 12:05

Mama, I'm 42 now and definitely still favour a retro-look sandal, you obviously have to wear them with a bit of verve, but in fashion terms they are FAR from frumpy!

Anyway, have you checked out Ancient Greek they have tons of flat styles and are beautifully made, I have a couple of pairs which I love. Should be about on your price point too.

HoundoftheBaskervilles · 17/03/2016 12:10

I have these which some on here would now doubt label frumpy, I call it simplicity, which to me is the antithesis of frump.

LaCerbiatta · 17/03/2016 12:20

Also agree with fresta. The OPs are the nicest out of all lunked here!

MamaAwayOnBusiness · 17/03/2016 12:22

Right, for anyone at the edge of their seats:

I went for the Steve Madden ones in the end, if they are narrower than saltwaters they will be perfect (thank you Dorothea!) www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Steve+Madden+Dublin+cross+strap+flat+sandals/D663449,default,pd.html

And for the money I saved I will look for some more fun/fashionable when the sales start.

HoundoftheBaskervilles · 17/03/2016 12:33

I really like those, good choice Mama

HoggleHoggle · 17/03/2016 12:42

Agreed, good choice. What colour did you go for? I am thinking of the tan ones.

MamaAwayOnBusiness · 17/03/2016 12:45

Hoggle I went for the black ones (in hope that Ancient Greek Sandals will be discounted at some point so I can bag them later in the season)

On the subject of wedges, I've bought these in black and tan and can't decide if I love them or not. They are a bit marmite, but are v comfy, v cheap, and make my legs look longer.

fresta · 17/03/2016 12:51

I love those Steve Madden ones mama, I was coveting them in Selfridges at the weekend. I think I will get the taupe (grey) ones if they are comfortable.

MamaAwayOnBusiness · 17/03/2016 12:51

I very much like the front but I hate the wedge, it looks a bit too - solid?

(Disclaimer: I very rarely like wedge so my opinion may not count).

But I can see how tan ones can be very flattering.

OP posts:
PrimalLass · 17/03/2016 12:59

It does look a bit solid. I bought the strappy version a few years ago (after spotting them on bum40 Kat), so I don't really need the black too. But £15!!!

MamaAwayOnBusiness · 17/03/2016 13:01

PrimaLass If you don't love them I say send them back. That's £15 in your budget less for something that you will actually wear with pleasure and confidence (and one thing fewer to chuck out when you Kondo your stuff).

OP posts:
fresta · 17/03/2016 13:02

Oh I LOVE these ! Never heard of ancient greek before, this thread is getting dangerously expensive! Is there somewhere in the Uk that stocks them ?

PrimalLass · 17/03/2016 13:06

I think I do love them. They are so comfy (still on), hide my heels for days I need a pedi, will be ok for work I think, and look so nice with painted toes.

FankEweVeryMuch · 17/03/2016 13:06

I was looking at those Steve Madden sandals in John lewis this morning and thinking about this thread!

fresta · 17/03/2016 13:08

I quite like them Prima and for the price you can't go wrong!
