How easy is a grey handbag to wear with other colours?

Have my eye on a grey bag and am going to order a couple to try before the weekend is out .... BUT can I wear it with my tan/brown boots? I know it will go with everything else in my wardrobe but I must be able to use it when I'm wearing ankle boots! Anyone with an opinion please as I wouldn't usually put both those colours together! Thanks.

Grey bags are very difficult IME.

Want2bSupermum · 27/02/2016 17:00

Grey goes with every colour except Brown and that includes tans.

PennyHasNoSurname · 27/02/2016 17:00

I would wear a grey bag easily but my shoes are either navy flats or black flats so I figure itd go with all of that. I dont wear tan boots/shoes. I do have a pair of leopard flats which Id assume.it wouldnt go with but I have other bags for that.

Ponymagic · 27/02/2016 17:05

Aaaaargh .... just what I thought. My boots are tan, I want new boots which are tan. Guess I'd best re-look the bag colour. Bummer but thanks guys!

Depends which grey and style a nice dark grey or light grey great mid grey could look very staid.

I'd be tempted to go for an in between grey and black.

pluck · 27/02/2016 18:24

What about purple? I had a very nice deep purple bag (Osprey, but from TK Maxx Grin) and it went well with different shoes, boots and coats.

Ponymagic · 27/02/2016 19:02

Super am undecided between two, both light to mid. this or this ... looking at them again, neither will look good with tans - boo!

pluck - good call ... I have been wanting an oxblood bag for a while and it will be my autumn purchase Grin but want something a bit lighter for the spring/summer.

If it's a bag for spring/summer then will you really be wearing your tan boots that much?

burnishedsilver · 27/02/2016 19:17

I have a grey bag which I love. It goes with everything in my wardrobe. I never wear brown. I think brown is probably the only colour it wouldn't work with.

Ponymagic · 27/02/2016 19:20

Jeffrey ... depends on the weather but am up north so they do see the light of day if it's really wet.

That said, the boots might need a re-think!

.... Or the second bag comes in rather a nice blue Grin

Ponymagic I am also up north so I understand. At least the rain gets a bit warmer in the summer Grin

Jmangel · 27/02/2016 19:47

Gosh well I wear grey - light to mid not dark - with tan all the time. I think it's really expensive looking. Last summer I wore light grey skinny cargo pants with tan gladiator sandals and then a light grey cross body bag. That Marcie is gorgeous!

SuperFlyHigh · 27/02/2016 19:55

I prefer the DKNY one best but I'd prefer a darker grey maybe metallic grey (think Stella McCartney chain bags of last season) for tan as the lighter ones don't think go in my opinion.

Ponymagic · 27/02/2016 22:08

Oh I'm so confused ... although of course I don't have to buy a bag but I would like a new one and have been waiting months to purchase but now I'm wobbling on the colour!

Jmangel ... the Marcie is lovely ... which colour do you like?

OP posts:
SuperFlyHigh · 27/02/2016 22:11

Ponymagic it's funny I was thinking abut this sort of bag for me after you mentioned it... It's probably something I'd find maybe not designer in Italy or Spain.... And could look oh so classy.... You've got me thinking now!

Also the lighter ones.... How good are you at keeping them unmarked me not so good at that.

Ponymagic · 27/02/2016 22:30

Super - you like the DKNY bag? That style looks to be a great size - the !arcie is a worry that it might be a bit small. Classy would be good! I'm okay with lighter colours - I bought a really pale pink/blush LKB bag a few years ago and whilst it has a few marks, it's by no means battered.

CointreauVersial · 28/02/2016 01:10

The first bag also comes in a creamy colour which might be better - it will go with greys and browns.

RJnomore1 · 28/02/2016 01:40

I've got a really lovely grey Patrick cox bag I use a lot / it's a bit darker than those two though. I've got a grey cape too though. Been looking for grey boots (Scotland) but no luck so far.

KoalaDownUnder · 28/02/2016 01:50

That DKNY bag is divine!!!

I have the same problem, OP - I wear a lot of tan/brown/silver (boots, sandals, etc) and have had my eye on a grey bag for a while.

Does grey really look weird with tan, or classy (as a poster upthread said)? Confused now!

MissTurnstiles · 28/02/2016 08:59

You could get away with greige or taupe, but a cool-toned grey looks odd with brown or tan IMHO.

Be aware of colour transfer with pale bags, too. I have a lovely grey bag which is badly marked on the back where it has rubbed against my jeans as I walk and the dark blue colour has transferred over.

Jmangel · 28/02/2016 09:41

Ok guys - do a search on Pinterest for tan and grey street style - there is your answer. The colour combination is achingly gorgeous.

Jmangel · 28/02/2016 09:42

Ponymagic - now I've got that gorgeous Marcie haunting me as a cookie! What have you done!!

SuperFlyHigh · 28/02/2016 09:43

Yes op I like the DKNY bag! Not 100% love it mind but the other one it's great if you want that size, shape etc... Just not very practical. However if you can afford 2 grey bags... Grin

SuperFlyHigh · 28/02/2016 09:45

What MissTurnstyles says I think greige, taupe or a greyed black/navy looks better than a pale grey.

I've had pale grey clothes before now (lovely gorgeous) but tan would have looked wrong I feel (unless caramel or pale tan) and I always bought cream or ivory shoes in nubuck or suede to accessorise and same with bags too.
