Is Alexa Chung a "fabulous British icon?"

As quoted by some style expert today. Is she? Really? She just looks like a hipster to me I didn't realise she'd change the fashion world. Mind you, I'm too old to appreciate the Pixies, Georgias and Caras so maybe I'm way off the mark. Do people follow Alexa's look? I guess they must do.

Disclaimer: I didn't buy the book, the articles reviewing it were enough. Grin

As if she thinks she's this deadly serious journalist though.

gunting · 19/02/2016 20:28

Metallic oh bloody hell, is that really from her book?

SwedishEdith · 19/02/2016 20:29

Oh, I might have to "read" that. I glanced at it in Waterstone's once and there only seemed to be about 10 words per page. There must be copies in charity shops by now.

Claraoswald36 · 19/02/2016 20:30

Maybe. She's a bit smug for my liking though. Her style is so I do fashion ok! Not flattering or timeless or sexy just fashion ok!!! Facially she's really pretty but her hair is just weird and I have never coveted any of her apparel

FrustratedFrugal · 19/02/2016 20:31

Alexa Chung wearing Per Una Speziale - cannot wait!

MetallicBeige · 19/02/2016 20:33

gunting unfortunately, it's real, directly quoted. Who talks like that? Who?!

ThursdayLastWeek · 19/02/2016 20:35

Oh Metallic I can't thank you enough for that Grin

Claraoswald36 · 19/02/2016 20:35

I will be reading the book in smiths!

gunting · 19/02/2016 20:37

I've had to google some quotes from this book. Oh this will have me laughing for days. Thanks metallic. What is she on about?** Grin

'Boys say they don't mind how you get your hair done. But then they leave you for someone with really great standard girl hair and the next thing you know you're alone with a masculine crop crying into your granola.'

ThursdayLastWeek · 19/02/2016 20:38

Pesky standard girls and their standard hair Grin

MetallicBeige · 19/02/2016 20:40

Grin Thursday

Well, I know when me and the gals get together Brenda is a bugger for stripping off down to her 'Doreen' bra, and Janice loves to create mood lighting and sing Peter Andre songs.
Me? I'm not even part of that coffee morning, I'm sitting in my waterfall cardi, filling in the Take a Break competitions, being the best at what I do.

Fairyliz · 19/02/2016 20:58

Beige yes but I bet you bought that carci in M & S unlike Alexa who only wears it when she is paid a fortunr.

SagaAndMartinsLiftConvos · 19/02/2016 21:04

Maybe I'm a bit light-headed from lack of sleep, but I am giggling helplessly at that MetallicBeige Grin

Dontlaugh · 19/02/2016 21:07

Alexa and granola have not met, not in person anyway, within the last ten years at least.

gunting · 19/02/2016 21:09

Metallic Grin

Dontlaugh I think she lives in a different world where she cries into granola and eats tissues.

Tiggeryoubastard · 19/02/2016 21:12

No of course she isn't. I can be honest as I am not sucking up live in the real world.

NameAgeLocation · 19/02/2016 21:13

I love you MetallicBeige Grin

XiCi · 19/02/2016 21:16

I love her hair and like her slightly grungy style. It's good that we have an antithesis to that awful Towie/Geordie Shore bouffanted hair extensions look.

ijustwannadance · 19/02/2016 21:17

I don't know wtf she actually does other than having her photo taken, while standing like a toddler, dressed in her mums big clothes, who needs a wee. All knock knees and faux coyness.

She doesn't have enough of a personality to be a chuffing icon.

Tate15 · 19/02/2016 21:18

She started off as a model before getting involved with TV. I think she is a naturally nice looking woman with a lovely figure and has her own style. She wears the clothes not the clothes wearing her which is where a lot of trendy people fail.

I like how she looks.

I warmed to her a lot when she was on Celebrity Bake Off. I know being surrounded by cakes isn't her natural environment but she had a nice dry humour and came across well.

squoosh · 19/02/2016 21:20

I rarely like her clobber though.

If anybody is interested, my cardi was £12.99 in the sale. It's my favourite thing to potter around in, and just be me. Y'know?

MargotLovedTom · 19/02/2016 21:31

MetallicBeige - I'd rather have a night out with Brenda and Janice than Alexa, Daisy and Florence any day of the week. They sound like a Beryl Cook painting come to life 😅.

Every article I read about hairstyles mentions Alexa's 'artfully tousled bob' and I'm always WTF? It looks like my hair when I've woken up after a restless night digesting a late curry.
