Is Alexa Chung a "fabulous British icon?"

As quoted by some style expert today. Is she? Really? She just looks like a hipster to me I didn't realise she'd change the fashion world. Mind you, I'm too old to appreciate the Pixies, Georgias and Caras so maybe I'm way off the mark. Do people follow Alexa's look? I guess they must do.

Alexa, Florence & Daisy are a different crowd to mine own I suspect.

I feel like I'd be more likely to just, y'know, bump into Emma, Claire and Katie.
Though actually I'd probably invite them over to my house, and make them a cup of tea, y'know, just being standard.

Aw leave her alone! I like her. I like that she doesn't try to be sexy and is a world away from all that towie / kardashian falseness.

Admittedly that book extract makes her sound like a dick, and the m&s collaboration is probably ill advised in terms of relating to its key audience - but I'd take Alexa over many of the celebs in the spotlight today.

I do think she has had an undeniable impact on fashion trends on a massive scale over recent years. They may not be aimed at MN core readers (whatever they may be) but the popularity of trends such as Peter Pan collars, brogues, denim cut offs and dungarees are in part down to Alexa. So i do consider her iconic in terms of fashion influence in recent years.

It's all so, like, Annie Hall

Metallic, I thought we said what happens in Milton Keynes, stays in Milton Keynes? Grin

southeastastra · 19/02/2016 22:10

shes boring, what are these people famous for remind me?

TheAlchemist101 · 19/02/2016 22:48

Let's face it she'll look nice in just about anything. The same cannot of said of your average middle age slightly overweight M&S shopper. M&S needs to make clothes which flatter their average shopper not chasing IT girls.

I agree with Lovelychops, she has had a huge influence over what we have all been wearing over the last few years. I like her style a lot. She has made a series of videos for Vogue which I enjoyed, she is far from vacuous. She's smart and has made a lot of money from her collaborations with various brands. Good luck to her

Metallic Grin - not only have you made me laugh after a slightly rubbish day, you are rockin' that waterfall cardigan, girl!

TSSDNCOP · 20/02/2016 13:31

Metallic you really have to ghost her new book.

She's one of them without whom Grazia and the Sideboard of Shame would exist: Rita, Cara blah blah blah.

specialsubject · 20/02/2016 17:16

well, at least she smiles in photos - there's a daily mail thing about her M and S collection and it certainly proves that it is quite a good idea, as opposed to the gormless fish pout or vacant expression of the other models.

those clothes can be found in any charity shop though. You get paid to 'design' that?

EachandEveryone · 20/02/2016 18:49

Especially a Mary Portas charity shop
