Well, I've grabbed the bull by the horns & am leaping into the new thread........

Felt very sad no one else had started one whilst I scoffed dined.

If no one like the title I am more than happy to have it deleted & go with anything else.

DH has taken over the catering for the month of February......... the food is good but the angst is another matter Grin

Ho yes, Crem, the Lizard Legs and the Armadillo Elbows. La Roche Posay's Lipikar sorts them out nicely.

I feel like the rugby song version of Alouette some days - greying hair, criss cross eyes, floppy jowls, swinging tits, big fat belly, channel tunnel...

MI - mine started out with one solitary hair on the chin. I've now got a tache you could plait and enough bristles on my chin for a paintbrush.

magimedi · 21/02/2016 22:34

It's out with the hot wax for me every fortnight!

Also see the point of Tom H - was not expecting to enjoy The Night Manager but loved it.

DH was VERY annoying & kept on telling me (smugly) what a great book it was. If he tells me what happens I will kill him. (Have informed him of that & he has shut up.)

Slightly didn't believe Pine falling in love with Sophie looking erm, not her best. Also thought it all happened a bit suddenly, that is without very many meaningful looks from Tom.
More meaningful looks from Tom, please, when you're ready BBC.......

Collymollypuff · 22/02/2016 01:50

Crem, shall I PM you my email addy so we can make plans for you to come and stay 11/12 March?

Cremo · 22/02/2016 07:31

Thanks Molly,

Loved the Night Manager - Tom pretty good looking but I'm more of a Tom Hardy girl myself (prob's old enough to be his mother). Hugh Laurie used to be a cutie and now looks really mean although that may be linked to the role he's playing.

First day of school hols today so I'm cleaning whilst the my two remaining offspring sit glued to various terminals. DH will take DS skiing later in the week, whilst I go with DD2 to visit my parents and have a quick trip to York University.

hattymattie · 22/02/2016 11:06

I just have one really long hair on my chin which I pluck and then it sneaks up on me unawares so that by the time I spot it it's about a centimetre long and I'm horrified as to how it got there without me seeing it.

Rosebag · 22/02/2016 11:41

Yes, Hatty I have one of those... and I'm ashamed to admit that I've had it since my 30's...Blush quite satisfying to pluck out though, I find
One day I shall have to address the 'tache although at the moment it only really upsets me in the rear view mirror when driving on a sunny day...

Had an utterly dreary day yesterday cleaning, home working and shouting. I am recovering today and preparing to go on a workshop, again in town..all about developing global aims for the organisation which is now 60 years old and has a new male chief exec.

This pleasant afternoon prospect is marred only by another trustee from the "other place" who has sent emails with veiled comments about me letting myself down and being a coward about having difficult conversations. You know when you have that heavy feeling in your chest? And you just want to holler "Nooooo, but it wasn't like that..." Sad Angry Hmm Shock

Molls we're ok for tomoz, ya? Anyone else?

bigTillyMint · 22/02/2016 11:55

Crepeys, we are doomedSad They are not taking bookings for the upstairs room because of the rugby. They can do a table downstairs. Shall we go for that or can someone else find somewhere that we can book?!

Rosebag · 22/02/2016 11:58

Wasn't there somewhere in the Highbury and islington area that GGG knows about?

motherinferior · 22/02/2016 12:38

Rose, I once and once only walked out on a project halfway through, when it was turning into an utter nightmare and was becoming huge amounts of work for a set fee so rapidly becoming sweated labour. The bloke in charge - he was meant to be managing the whole thing for an external client but was being utterly hopeless - did a lot of the 'I just feel you'll feel you let yourself down' at me. Nope, mate, really not. I felt terrific.

Lalsy · 22/02/2016 12:52

Yeah, MI is right, Rose. You don't need this. Get shot of them and use the gap for something that is productive (financially, creatively, healthwise, whatever) AND makes you feel good. They sound unprofessional and manipulative and IME it is impossible to change that culture.

I think downstairs at tree place would be OK or happy to try somewhere new but can't think of anywhere because I rarely go out.

Auriga · 22/02/2016 12:59

Hi everyone. Have only had brief catch-up but glad that most people seem to have had a good half-term (except Rudy Flowers hope things are looking up).

I've been overtaken by DM's problems. We'd planned a trip up north for her to meet her first GGS but she had to call me in the night before we left because of chest pain and breathlessness. Got her settled & decided to go but it was stressful. I had to share a hotel room with her in case of further nocturnal symptoms. She slept well, I didn't.

She got to see the baby, as well as 5/6 grandchildren & all my sibs & partners, so it was a success; but DM resents her loss of independence & takes it out on me, in remarkably unpleasant ways. And is nasty to DD behind my back as well.

After the triumph of getting her back alive and breathing, I asked if she'd enjoyed it. Her only comment was that she'd have liked to go shopping in the city & see one of her old friends (she hadn't mentioned the friend once & wouldn't have lasted 20 paces in the cold and biting wind in the city).

The trivial thing that infuriated me most was a random woman in the hotel, simpering at me as she passed us in the corridor 'Take care of your Mam - she's precious'. The red mist has still not fully dispersed. I know how unreasonable this is but that only makes me feel worse.

Lalsy · 22/02/2016 13:49

Auriga, that is not unreasonable at all: you did well not to punch her. I am so sorry, that all sounds exhausting and miserable.

Cremo · 22/02/2016 13:58

Yanbu Oh God Auriga, I think of have punched her.

BTM downstairs at Mulberry would be grand: everyone just order off the menu. If they can accommodate us on a Saturday night.
Or we could just go back to Caminos in Bankside couldn't we. They were quite good to us before I think.
Also just thought of The Refinery, where we had cocktails before Caminos in Bankside.: they do various things for large parties and also sharihttp://bankside.therefinerybar.co.uk/data/media/pdf/The-Refinery-all-day-food.pdfng platters with bench tables etc.
Refinery

Sorry you have ended up with this BTM. I can take over if you feel pushed ok?

bigTillyMint · 22/02/2016 14:15

Oh Auriga, I would have punched her too!
I think you are a saint for having her to live with you. Despite the distance/worry before she went into the home/things to be sorted now, I would far rather that my DM was looked after by decent carers than me.

Cremo, I have emailed them (also tried Zedel, but they are fully booked too - beginning to wonder about a conspiracy theory!) If they can accommodate us, we can decide between there and Mulberry downstairs?

bigTillyMint · 22/02/2016 14:34

Well you couldn't make it up - the Refinery is closed for private hire!

So shall I say yes to downstairs in the Mulberry and we all choose our own meals at the time?

motherinferior · 22/02/2016 14:48

BTM, you are a hero. Just book the Mulberry.

Auriga.....words fail me.

Lalsy · 22/02/2016 14:59

You are indeed, BTM! Word has clearly got out and restaurant managers are hastily arranging closure.....

Lalsy · 22/02/2016 15:25

They think we are a load of hairy-chinned gin-swiggers with strong views on everything who like swapping goat pictures Grin.

Cremo · 22/02/2016 16:13

Snort@ Lalsy Grin

Anyone lurking on this thread will think "those Crepeys couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery"

Thanks BTM. You are being very good about this. Large sherry for you on arrival, I think.

Collymollypuff · 22/02/2016 17:11

Yes, to everything.

Yes to Fortnums, hooray, see ya there, Rose, anyone else most welcome

And yes to Mulberry downstairs, and huge thanks to BTM for heroic efforts.

Auriga, I feel for you. I once had a distant aunt say that to me about my dad...I won't give you the lengthy background, but it took my breath away given the circs. Later, much later, I did look after him, but it was my choice.

Rosebag · 22/02/2016 17:52

Oh gosh Auriga what a traumatic time. Old age and illness entitles people to reasonable care and attention. It does not however, entitle them to become unkind, and abusive to those around them. And bystanders don't know buggery about peoples' situations and should shut the F*&K up. Flowers

Thanks MI and Lalsy* You speak good sense. I hope this anxiety feeling in the solar plexus goes away soon. It's like permanent adrenaline fuelled butterflies. I must occupy myself more....

Tilly I am sure we'll all be fine ordering our own food if required. Thanks so much for organising! What a pain. Clearly our reputation precedes us...

Now, is anyone taking advantage of the 20% off Boden this week?

Blackduck · 22/02/2016 19:22

Sorry, if I hadn't thrown a spanner re Las Ig....

Collymollypuff · 22/02/2016 19:44

Really pleased so many people are coming. Smile Rudy, we will have hugs ready if needed.
