Help! I have no idea what jeans are supposed to look like now. I want them to NOT be low waisted or skinny -what should I be looking for that is still somewhat current??!

The Times has been eavesdropping: today's fashion pages are devoted to denim... and guess what, they're saying what we are saying. Dark denim, no rips, move on from skinnies. Just thought you'd all like to know how on trend you are!

Anything but bootcut.

I have a theory that there are journalists lurking on these threads, making notes on what their audience want to read.

Pity M&S don't take the same approach...

I am in my forties and live in jeans but you have to change where uou shop. You are not going to find them in Top Shop etc. I currently have mostly Next but the Wallis ones are really good too. Also for the summer the Esprit mid waisted coloured ones.

Go shopping, try on loads and loads before you buy. Decide what shoes or boots you are going to wear with them first and bring them with you so you can see what works.

Also don't fall into the trap of having to have the latest style. Wear what suits your shape and makes you feel comfortable that way you will feel confident.

PollyPerky · 10/02/2016 11:35

OP for starters you are only 40s :(
I have an old friend who wears them in her 80s and looks very smart.

The reason some styles become passe is because the makers want to sell more clothes. Someone does some branding & marketing and decides X is now out and Y is now in.

Quick girls, rush like sheep and change your wardrobes.

It's all a bit silly. But that's fashion for you.

Wear what suits you.
