Talk to me about wellies

Apologies if done to death.

I'm looking for a decent pair of wellies. Live in the countryside (moved from a city 2 years ago), so there is a lot of country park/mud/puddle action in my life.

Had some Joules ones which were a bit shite - not very warm and have split on both boots.

I'm afflicted with a chunky calf, so a shorter style or something that can be adjusted to make way for my leg girth would be good

I'll spend up to about £60, I reckon.

especially the Parcours type, which combine walking boot with wellington, seem to get good reviews on here.

They are expensive but you might get some in the sale? Decathlon sometimes have some good offers which might be worth checking out.

I've got Hunters and I find them too heavy and too stiff and the pair I bought for dh two years ago have already split.

I like Barbour wellies, they're comfy and tall. But the heels do wear out quite quickly if you walk on roads much.
Always in the Sale though.

I have chunky caves and live in the countryside and work outside in the mud. Either go very £££ with Aigle/Le Chameau, or basic black, rubber work wellies from somewhere like Arco. Anything else in between (including Hunter) is not great, however pretty looking. My "go to" wellies are Dunlop work wellies. Black, moulded foot, red sole.

Dunlop short ones are excellent but size down.

We have a young dog - lots of countryside, mudfest and wet walkies here. I have had cheap wellies, Hunters (2 pairs - both rubbish) - and have not got these:

I know they are nearer £100 than £60 - they have been great value for me. Used for hours per day for a week spent in Cornwall, completely waterproof, mud just brushes right off - and I think they look quite nice too. I've had then for 6 months so far and no sign of any issues thus far.

have now got these!.

I've just bought Ilse Jacobsen boots from Amazon for £59. They're warm and cosy, fleecy lined, repel water and lace up the front so should fit larger calves. It is incredibly muddy where we go to walk the dog at the moment and they've been lovely to wear and seem to be hard wearing. I've tried Joules which split, were replaced for free and then split again so I gave up. I was wearing cheap wellies but they're so cold!

I wear Hunter huntress wellies as they are a bit wider. They come in loads of colours and if you look round you can get them much cheaper. I got a lovely pair reduced from £100 to £50 recently. I find them very comfortable and can walk for miles in them.

Do not waste money on hunters,they are useless now and will leak.

Mid range go for aigle, but the best are undoubtedly le chameau!

It depends how much ponch factor you are looking for

I like muck boots. Warm and durable.

I second Ilse Jacobsen, the short model. I've had them for years, comfy and durable.

I have a pair of olive green Dunlops which must be 20 years old. Not fancy, but very cheap, and will go on and on. I can't see the point in spending megabucks on wellies, unless you wear them a lot. I put sheepskin soles in them if it's chilly.

Buy some country boots or mck boots, much comfier and long lasting than wellies

After being very disappointed with a pair of leaky Hunters, I invested in a pair of Aigle Parcours - I got them for £90 in the sale last year. They are so comfortable and warm and I wear them for a couple of hours a day, so definitely worth the money. My arch wasn't high enough or my feet weren't broad enough for the Ilse Jacobsen, my feet just slipped out of them.

It's such a shame Hunters have gone downhill, I have a 10 yr old pair of navy ones and while they have faded, they are incredibly comfortable and warm, no cracking etc.

Another vote for the Aigle Parcours. I've had mine several years and they are fab (and they also fit my ample calves just fine). Not cheap but definitely an investment.

Have you looked on the Jileon website? Masses of wellies with calf measurements. I've got a dark blue pair that are just fine for dogwalking. As we live in a village people know full well I have nothing to do with horses or farms I think I'd get looks with muck boots. Have good walking boot socks and fleecy insoles for warmth.

Witsender, I hear you. I have a pair of Hunters that are 25 years old and still going strong. I hope they never die.

I don't think that anybody who has wellies because they need then had hunters. Aigle are great and good for chunkier calves.

Third the ilse. I got mine in a sale at £29 years ago and they're so warm, I wear them in snow too.

Are tretorn? Are they any good? Am eyeing up some cheap ones online
