Talk to me about wellies

MarzipanDildo · 23/01/2016 08:02

Apologies if done to death.

I'm looking for a decent pair of wellies. Live in the countryside (moved from a city 2 years ago), so there is a lot of country park/mud/puddle action in my life.

Had some Joules ones which were a bit shite - not very warm and have split on both boots.

I'm afflicted with a chunky calf, so a shorter style or something that can be adjusted to make way for my leg girth would be good Smile

I'll spend up to about £60, I reckon.

TIA

The Jileon site is great - thanks Raising!

Dubarries are the cosiest thing ever as well.

Afishcalledchips · 24/01/2016 10:57

I've had some Peter Storm wellies from millets that are quite comfy. They were >£30, came in pretty colours and lasted ages.

cashmerecardigans · 24/01/2016 11:16

Le Chameau Vierzonord are amazing - way over budget I'm afraid, but really flexible, long lasting and these ones are lined in neoprene, so keep my feet really warm, even in snow

cressetmama · 24/01/2016 13:36

Another vote for Ilse Jacobsen for the style factor, plus another for Le Chameau, which have better soles.

Just to say that my Toggis (the ones linked to) were poor and I ended up throwing them out. They creased badly at the back just above the ankle, until they formed a proper 'dent' and dug into my achilles. It seems to be a common issue but of course you might be lucky. They were also baggy and I had to tighten the tie at the top really tightly to stop myself from walking out of them.

Agree about Hunters having gone downhill, but they have brought a new range out which are harder wearing and softer rubber - the Norris. Am currently giving them a whirl and they have been really good so far. You might need a broader fit as they come up slim.

Owllady · 24/01/2016 13:51

I'm marking my place as I need some good wellies too
I've got muck boots but they are a bit bulky for long walks

hollinhurst84 · 24/01/2016 14:56

Ariat boots are like slippers. I have the grasmere which are pricey but mine are on their 4th year now

SomethingAboutNothing · 24/01/2016 15:03

My sister has the Aigle Parcours and they are lovely. My budget didn't quite stretch to them so I got www.charliesdirect.co.uk/cotswold-kew-neoprene-adjustable-wellington-boots-olive?gclid=CjwKEAiAiZK1BRD509nPsYiUk2YSJAAMoAwCRpMKaCscOeX-odqALVhu3YygcATmQLChJavZIZA9mhoCaXzw_wcB

Only got them at Christmas but so far so good, lovely and comfy and keep my feet warm. Plus I also have wide calves and have no issue with these.

HortonWho · 24/01/2016 15:22

Tretorn are suppose to be great

mamaneedsamojito · 24/01/2016 15:27

Following this as I'm also on the hunt since my wellies sprung a leak.

peachybex · 24/01/2016 18:37

I also have a pair of these which have been brilliant (I seem to have more wellies and walking boots than any other shoes....). Bit more expensive.

They are a bit snug when you first try them on, but do "give" to your shape and are the comfiest things ever. Also have been completely waterproof and have brushed up to look good after lots of mud and walking.

Also do them in a wide calf fitting - for pp.

peachy x

maybemyrtle · 24/01/2016 19:00

My Hunters are about 6 years old and doing great. They're neoprene lined and together with sheepskin insoles they are toasty warm. That said, DP's Dunlops were a fraction of the price and are (at least) twice as old.

HelloItsMeAgain · 24/01/2016 19:28

I have Toggis too. Love them. Have wide calf fitting. I would suggest you get yourself down to your local equine store and try some stuff on.

YetAnotherNC · 24/01/2016 19:28

Agile. Super duper wellies. Warm and comfortable.

Silverpinkswirls · 25/01/2016 11:45

I got my aigle wellies from here which I love, they don't seem to have the exact ones I've got but they are made from a better natural rubber than normal wellies as my cousin tried to explain one time.

Mine are the bison wellie boot which are great, they come up higher on the calf than you'd expect from the photo.

Another vote for Aigle Parcours - ridiculously comfy, sturdy, supportive and warm.

cressetmama · 03/02/2016 16:20

People who are attracted to the Dubarry boots but less keen on the price may like to know about Dublin boots, which are not dissimilar in look but about £100 cheaper. I saw a woman wearing them a few days ago and asked what they were.

TweedAddict · 03/02/2016 16:34

Aigle they are the best wellies ever! I've had mine for 5 years, they cope with doing the horses and dogs twice a day. I walk miles in mine. The footwear I've ever brought by a long way

N0tfinished · 03/02/2016 16:50

I wear gumbie gumboots. Like a cross between a croc & an ugg. Very comfy, light & warm! Love them

witsender · 03/02/2016 20:30

I quite like Grubs too, very cosy.
