Watches

I would like a new watch for my birthday. What's an acceptable brand?

It will be a joint present and I'll chip in, too - I'll have several hundred to spend. So not Rolex or Cartier.

I'd like quite a large face, metal bracelet, silver. Some very, very subtle bling would be OK.

I don't want to look like a glitzy teen or like it might be a knock off. Michael Kors and Guess fall into my price bracket but feel like this, for example.

I'd like to make a tasteful choice. Any recommendations?

I have just bought this and lots of people admire it

Maybe too glitzy but I love it!

If I was getting a new watch I'd get an eco drive (solar powered) one. I've seen some very pretty ones.

Not2bObvious · 19/01/2016 19:33

Longines does some nice classy watches, I have silver one with a large but not too large face, silver and diamonds for each hour, I'll try find a link. I love it

I got a Daniel Wellington watch for Christmas and I love it. Mine has a leather strap, not sure if they do metal strapped ones too?

HeyMicky · 19/01/2016 19:47

Have you considered an antique watch?

Favouritethings · 19/01/2016 20:35

Citizen watches are very nice

AmberNectarine · 19/01/2016 20:55

I really like the Larsson & Jennings watches

Cellardoor1 · 20/01/2016 04:38

I have a citizen Eco drive. It's not flashy but looks nice and is solar powered so no need to change the battery.

SueGeneris · 20/01/2016 05:07

I like the Mondian Swiss watches.

FashionLover1 · 20/01/2016 14:49

Burberry

ChishandFips33 · 20/01/2016 22:50

I have a few Fossil watches - both leather and metal straps, large faced not glitzy

JaceLancs · 20/01/2016 23:40

Skagen are worth a look

Only1scoop · 20/01/2016 23:41

Tag Aqua racer the larger 31mm is a nice classic.

KanyesVest · 20/01/2016 23:48

Rotary are classic, beautiful watches.

MxJackMonroe · 21/01/2016 00:17

I bought myself a Skagen with my first book advance to remember it by. Beautiful chunky bracelet, well made, sturdy but elegant, looks a lot more expensive than the £150 I paid for it. It gets a lot of comments. Id enthusiastically recommend it as a brand.

Fabellini · 21/01/2016 00:32

I have this one and I love it.
I don't need to worry about batteries or winding it, and it receives s radio signal setting the time, which means it's always spot on Smile

HeyMicky · 21/01/2016 12:20

Ooh, I'd forgotten about rotary, thank you

And the Skagen look lovely - might be tempted by a leather strap instead

Thanks all!

If you like Skagen, try Bering. Also Danish.

Oh yes, I like Skagen too.

I actually never wear my watches because they irritate me, but this thread is making me want a new one!

MxJackMonroe · 21/01/2016 16:36

Nice to see so much love for Skagen :)

HappyGirlNow · 21/01/2016 16:55

Just bought this Skagen which I absolutely LOVE! Keep staring at it on my wrist Blush Grin

I also have a nice gold Armani which I like but not half as much as the Skagen. It's a thing of beauty!

MoreGilmoreGirls · 21/01/2016 16:58
