Watches

I would like a new watch for my birthday. What's an acceptable brand?

It will be a joint present and I'll chip in, too - I'll have several hundred to spend. So not Rolex or Cartier.

I'd like quite a large face, metal bracelet, silver. Some very, very subtle bling would be OK.

I don't want to look like a glitzy teen or like it might be a knock off. Michael Kors and Guess fall into my price bracket but feel like this, for example.

I'd like to make a tasteful choice. Any recommendations?

I had this watch as a present a few years ago - I absolutely love it because it's very plain and subtle; it gets a lot of compliments

Skagen!

I have a lovely one, which has a silver strap and a gold face, so goes with whatever jewellery I'm wearing. And I'm eying up this one for my forthcoming birthday (do you hear me, DH?).

Bexicles · 21/01/2016 18:51

Can the Skagen mesh bracelet watches be altered? I have teeny tiny wrists.

Want2bSupermum · 21/01/2016 18:54

Skagen watches fit the bill but they don't last. I went through one every 18 months or so. It would first be the battery and then the strap. I just gave up and got a Larson & Jennings. I have small wrists and the L&J is perfect. I love you can easily change the band too.

WhiteHairReally · 21/01/2016 19:44

I love my Skagen but it's not my everyday watch. My teenage design conscious son had issues with his Skagen mesh strap as Want2be implies.

Olivia Burton watches are lovely

AmberNectarine · 21/01/2016 19:52

Now I love this but it is designed for a man and I have tiny wrists. Wonder how adjustable they are...

AmberNectarine · 21/01/2016 19:52

My Olivia Burton broke after 3 days.

There is no way I would pay that for a Skagen watch Amber. Try looking on overstock.com where they are much cheaper. Also try amazon and Nordstrom here in the US also have them discounted to as little as $60 (about GBP40). Even with the shipping charges you will be way ahead compared to buying from that website.

Also, if you have small wrists the mens watches will probably be too big. I am one notch off the bottom on the ladies watches. Go to a store to try them on.

Have a look at Rado - they are lovely.

HappyGirlNow · 21/01/2016 21:47

bexicles yes mesh strap can be altered.

Startingout2015 · 21/01/2016 21:50

I love skagen and Daniel Wellington.

Men have so much better choice when it comes to stylish watches though

Oogle · 22/01/2016 09:45

I have a Rado and I love it. I get complimented on it a lot.

beguilingeyes · 22/01/2016 11:01

Fossil...they look expensive, but they're not and they do a huge variety of styles.

BuggersMuddle · 22/01/2016 11:09

Raymond Weill perhaps?
