My lovely DD had all her hair cut off yesterday. She's been thinking about it for ages so it wasn't a mad impulse.
She took a cute picture of an Anne Hathaway pixie cut with her. She also had some colour as she wanted to be blonder. She's very upset with how it looks and thinks is it is very middle aged and not pixie! I think she looks gorgeous but agree that the cut and colour isn't brilliant. It's so short though that we don't know how to change it...Are there any hairdressers out there who could advise? Can the cut be rescued without taking loads more off?? Please please help, I was so proud of her for being brave and going for a change and she's so upset.

You can (could have earlier) even get a darker temporary colour to sort her out through school.

NinjaClaws · 17/01/2016 17:17

Ask for a refund from the original hairdresser as that clearly isn't what she asked for.

Have a couple of free consultations in some decent salons and choose the one she feels the most comfortable with, preferably a more experienced stylist/colourist. Don't choose the cheapest option as that's usually the most inexperienced person they employ.

It can easily be fixed but you do need to find someone who knows what they're dong as it's a colour correction job now.

ValancyJane · 17/01/2016 17:18

OP can you maybe say (vaguely) the geographical area you are in? I bet someone will be able to recommend some decent salons...

flashheartscanoe · 17/01/2016 17:19

Well um... 5 hours to London but yes I guess we could have done that today Lweji Hmm

Platinum blonde all over would look great.
Clipper the sides so it's super short- an undercut. Then the top longer and she can wear it styled up or soft and down.
It needs thinning and softer feather of the ends too as her hair is thick and you see the scissor marks.

Seriously?

The search sites will look in different areas. London is just a generic location. Try them for wherever you live in.

Still, do you really think you'll be able to find a decent hairdressers tomorrow? When even some people say that some are closed on Monday?
Do you even know where you're going to start?
How many days will she spend out of school looking for the best place? Hmm

itsbetterthanabox · 17/01/2016 17:26

Lweji if she went somewhere like Cellys which is a big chain like supercuts she'd end up with an even worse cut!
Op it needs to be a good salon. Look at reviews and ask around where is good and has a young clientele.

itsbetterthanabox · 17/01/2016 17:27

Don't dye it at home op! If you are going to have it recoloured at a salon colouring it at home first is going to make this much harder.

Fabsolutely · 17/01/2016 17:28

More of the lovely Michelle. Pretty perfect short hair I'd say.

Lweji You sound a bit Angry, I can't decide if i think you are the hairdresser who cut the OPs hair or are Clare Balding Confused

LagoonaBlu · 17/01/2016 17:30

Just wanted to say that (I agree with everyone else) and do hope that you are going to complain to the original stylist

I think 'stylist' might be a bit of a stretch dish

fastdaytears · 17/01/2016 17:32

are Clare Balding confused

Oh there's been tons of love for CB on this thread! I'm sure she'd be the first to say that her hair isn't quite right on a teenage girl!

theconstantvacuumer · 17/01/2016 17:33

You poor DD, that is horrendous! The highlights make me think of a porcupine - sorry. Here's hoping that she gets a fabulous cut and colour correction tomorrow.

Cocolepew · 17/01/2016 17:37

Michelle Williams, with short hair, is my hair idol.

iciclewinter · 17/01/2016 17:38

I like Fabsolutely's picture. I'd take that to the hairdresser and ask for the hair to be blonde in all one colour and thinned out.

MNetter15 · 17/01/2016 17:38

I sure hope your dd won't see this thread.

It is really, really dreadful Sad I don't know what's worse; the cut, or the hi lites (sorry). I think there's plenty hair left for it to be fixed though. Also, it will grow so quickly.

Poor dd though, it's hard enough being a teen without something like this.

absolutelynotfabulous · 17/01/2016 17:43

Yes, it's like Claire Balding. I'd agree with washing it, and pulling it forward with loads of product.

I think short hair needs a punchier colour than that too.

I think some hairdressers just can't do short hair, sadly.

Ringadingdingdong · 17/01/2016 17:45

I think you've already had loads of good advice, but just wanted to sympathise with your poor DD. It can be totally confidence shattering when you've had a shit haircut. The hairdresser has done a terrible job. Please complain. They need a bollocking and some training. I'd also want some money back towards sorting it out.

I'm sure it'll look great once it's sorted.

Lweji why are you getting your knickers in such a twist about the fact they haven't sorted it today? Odd.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 17/01/2016 17:49

Blatant place marking for update on OP's DD's new look tomorrow

Lweji · 17/01/2016 17:49

Lweji You sound a bit angry, I can't decide if i think you are the hairdresser who cut the OPs hair or are Clare Balding confused

Because I think the hair is dreadful, but don't think she should lose a day of school, in which she may or may not get her hair sorted?
And for offering suggestions of temporary solutions to make it sufficiently passable for school.

Are you on glue?

unlucky83 · 17/01/2016 17:50

flash In her photo at 9 months she has a clips to keep it out of her face ...but she isn't a clips type of girl - talking about going to a barbers for it done Shock Actually going to dig out more photos from that era for her ...in the one a year later she had had two haircuts at the hairdresser so her nursery photo -although a bit Crystal tips and Alistair (giving my age away there!) wasn't anywhere near as bad!

lavendersun · 17/01/2016 17:52

I have no advice flash but I had a very similar experience as a teenager. Almost waist length hair to pixie cut and it was a truly awful job, not helped by my very thick naturally curly hair.

For many many years I would rather go to the dentist than the hairdresser, am sure it was that nasty cut as a teenager!

My mother was not remotely sympathetic though, just not her thing/style - you sound lovely, I would absolutely have her take a day or two off to help her sort it out in your shoes.

Invest your energy in sorting it out first, deal with the first hairdresser afterwards.

itsbetterthanabox · 17/01/2016 17:52

Yes lwejii I'm sure bequiet is quite the huffer Hmm
It's so cringe when people use that choice phrase..

fastdaytears · 17/01/2016 17:53

I can't decide whether asking someone "are you on glue" was a thing more or less recently than that haircut.

Lweji · 17/01/2016 17:55

Ok, I'll use a different expression instead.
I can hardly think of a more idiotic conclusion to make from my posts. So, I can only conclude that if you are not an idiot, then you must have been drinking or on another substance.
