Has anyone seen them look good on ANYBODY AT ALL? Every fashion blogger I see in them looks utterly ridiculous, like they're wearing a pair of jeans from the late 90s that are too short.

OP posts:
Higge · 13/01/2016 08:14

I can't do full length bootcuts though - the look is too 1990's and there ain't nothing fresh about that!

ZaZathecat · 13/01/2016 08:39

I couldn't believe me eyes when the model came out on This Morning yesterday! Phil and Holly must have had to practice hard not to snort as she came out in those monstrosities.

Prediction for next stupid fashion craze: Elasticated waist, loose fitting crimplene trews with plenty of material in the bum area.

ALaughAMinute · 13/01/2016 08:49

I agree, they make your legs look short and are incredibly unflattering.

76burntbeans · 13/01/2016 09:03

Haha Higge I like them too, well I like the idea of them but I do have to concede that I've not seen anyone in real life that pulls them off. I tried the Whistles kick flares but they looked god awful on me, I've not got the right figure at all.

It's good to wear something other then skinnies, I like front-pleat, tapered trousers with turn ups. Really easy to wear, great with brogues, loafers or trainers.

Gruach · 13/01/2016 09:03

I'm not sure the pint of fashion is to be flattering.

The point of fashion is to express something new surely? (Or to reuse something old in a new context.)

I agree completely with the sentiment that clothes are one of the areas in life where we can enjoy constant experimentation. The day I stop trying things out and making mistakes with clothes is the day I stop bothering to get dressed.

niminypiminy · 13/01/2016 09:13

I like them too. I'm so so bored with skinnies, and really I don't think they're that flattering tbh, it's just that everyone's so used to the look that it's normalised.

I really like the cropped wide leg look, and prefer cropped flares which have a kind of 'I'm not aiming to please anybody but myself' insouciance about them to down to the floor 70s flares.

Any new silhouette looks ugly at first. When skinnies first came in, oh, sometime in the ice age, a lot of people thought they looked ugly. Fashion's about experimenting and pushing the boundaries and wearing odd, playful stuff.

burnishedsilver · 13/01/2016 14:58

I quite like them. The remind me of Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction and William Shatners original Star Trek uniform

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 13/01/2016 17:51

I was thinking of Uma Thurman in Pulp fiction. You need to have amazing ankles to pull them off though.

ewbank · 13/01/2016 18:24

and once mastered add a whole new dimension to trouser-wearing opportunities

God Vogue is bullshit isn't it?!

Floisme · 13/01/2016 18:45

Sorry for slight hi-jack as I know the op was about crop flares but I tried on these ultra wide crops, expecting to laugh and run and instead I loved them!
www.whistles.com/women/clothing/trousers/renee-wide-leg-cropped-trouser-22016.html?dwvar_renee-wide-leg-cropped-trouser-22016_color=Black#start=1

I know I'm not really tall enough to pull it off plus I don't like black but I'm in the hunt for a slightly less extreme pair in another dark colour.
Like previous posters, I'm not ready yet to go back to full length flares or soggy knees.

niminypiminy · 13/01/2016 18:57

Floisme I like those! Have you looked at Cos for something similar?

I may have to go to Whistles and try those on as I am looking for black clothes at the moment.

ewbank · 13/01/2016 18:58

Oh god they are horrible!

And is it law to wear them with orthopaedic shoes?

niminypiminy · 13/01/2016 19:04

And is it law to wear them with orthopaedic shoes?

Hopefully Grin

Floisme · 13/01/2016 19:05

niminy I don't live near a Cos and the website is so grim I don't normally bother but maybe I should try. I'm hoping H&M will come up with something similar but I don't suppose the fabric will be as fluid and drapy as the Whistles ones - they hang really nicely.

Orhopaedic shoes are optional ewbankSmile

RustyBear · 13/01/2016 19:19

Last person to wear them was Captain Kirk, wasn't it?

TSSDNCOP · 13/01/2016 19:22

I had them in the early 00's. The trick was a fitted, sometimes halter top and flatter shoes or kitten sling backs.

I've never been skinny. But you can pull them off better if you're athletic or straight up and down build rather than curvy.

FrustratedFrugal · 13/01/2016 19:26

Nope, David Bowie. RIP

musicposy · 14/01/2016 00:08

I'm so fed up with skinnies that I'll take any alternative. I have really fat knees (I had fat knees as an 8 stone teen so I know there's no hope!) and in skinnies I look as though someone has stuffed a load of fighting guinea pigs down my trousers. I crave the return of flares so this will do me fine!

SenecaFalls · 14/01/2016 00:19

This. They look good and very fashion forward on the right person. Like all styles some people suit them better than others. I like them and because I have very long legs, I think they work on me. I will probably wear them as I did in the OOs.

SapphireSeptember · 14/01/2016 00:27

No, just no! Reminds me of a mufti day when I was 13 and wearing navy bootcut trousers that were too short after I'd had a growth spurt! shudders What's wrong with bootcut jeans that hit the top of your foot? I have been searching for some decent black bootcut jeans, as I refused to go near skinny jeans on account of having chunky legs.

Floisme · 14/01/2016 07:03

Rain.
I don't wear heels and, bored as I am with skinnies, I'm not ready to go back to wet fabric flapping round my ankles.

IJustLostTheGame · 14/01/2016 08:10

I care not for skinnies. And anything cropped makes my short legs even shorter.

I love wet ankle flappers. Grin

I had some spectacular cropped trousers in the 00s, the only ones that ever suited me. Gutted I got rid of them years ago now.

ZaZathecat · 14/01/2016 08:29

Is it OK to wear 'mum boots' with the new flappy short flares? Grin

Floisme · 14/01/2016 08:41

Mum boots and flares are a match made in heaven. I can see us all wearing them soon.

And OMG niminy Cos!
I always used to point and laugh but now suddenly they've got loads of stuff I like. Thank you! What's the sizing like?

niminypiminy · 14/01/2016 08:50

Cos are like the girl with the curl -when they're big they're very big. But sometimes on the more tailored stuff true to size. So I would order two sizes (if funds permit) and return if necessary. But they have loads of stuff I like at the moment, yes.
