No one has mentioned the 'vanity size' problem that M & S has now. I noticed quite a few years ago that their clothes were vanity sized. NOW they are changing back and not telling their customers !!!!! So their management are obviously having problems

ppeatfruit · 08/01/2016 16:47

OMG are those trousers plastic. leather or bin bag??

AuntieStella · 08/01/2016 16:48

I thought the main reason for pick up in store was to avoid dealing with delivery companies.

MitzyLeFrouf · 08/01/2016 16:48

I think they're actually pleggings (pleather man leggings) intended for a very large gentleman.

IrritableBitchSyndrome · 08/01/2016 16:49

I made the mistake of buying a raincoat in M&S recently. First time it rained I was soaked to the skin in seconds. Who makes raincoat style coats that aren't even showerproof ffs? Ridiculous.

AuntieStella · 08/01/2016 16:50

Oh, and if they are surveying their current customer base (whoever they are) they have preselected people who don't mind the layout.

I've no idea how you'd find a decent group of people who have abandoned M&S to see why (including what they think of the layout). But that's who they need to be asking.

And also asking current customers what they would think of other layouts. It's quite possible they'd like others just as much.

var123 · 08/01/2016 16:51

AuntieStella - Not according to Marc Bolland. He says the reason we pick up in store is because we just love to visit his shops.

AlisonWunderland · 08/01/2016 16:51

The amazing thing about those Things in the OP is that they manage to make the white background they are lying on look fat.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 08/01/2016 16:52

I find the vanity sizing not to be a problem, as most sizes seem to be out of stock most of the time.

Not that I've looked in a bloody long time, to be fair. It's so frustrating that they keep on trying to sell the same old crap and not paying any attention to their terrible sales!

MitzyLeFrouf · 08/01/2016 16:54

They do a lovely custard bun. I'll give them that.

ppeatfruit · 08/01/2016 16:55

Thinking about the layout, I reckon they think that places like John Lewis have 'departments' so they copy other stores, otherwise it would look like a warehouse I suppose.

Behooven · 08/01/2016 16:55

ppeat they are 100% polyurethane lined with 100% polyester
Can you imagine the moistness [boak]

Actually in the sale, can't imagine why, originally £49.50 Shock

The sale trousers are particularly amusing to be honest..

Those green trews are hilarious. Like a costume from a 1970s am dram production of Robin Hood.

ppeatfruit · 08/01/2016 16:58

Thanks Behooven "moistness" is an understatement Grin sweaty would be more like it, good to lose weight !!!

AuntieStella · 08/01/2016 16:58

Yes, var123 I was responding to your earlier post where you said that. Because I think he's wrong.

Though if they've actually asked a representative sample of shoppers who do this and have found otherwise, fair enough. I can well believe not everyone thinks like me.

(Not that I've bought anything from M&S clothes for yonks, but exasperation with delivery companies is why I click and collect whenever possible).

coffeeisnectar · 08/01/2016 16:58

My mum's stopped shopping in m&s now and she's in her 70s. She's defected to JL after a lifetime of loyalty buying slacks and naice blouses from m&s, she's bewildered by the shite they peddle.

On the plus side I got a gorgeous toiletries bag in there the other day. Perhaps they should stick to non wearable items.

WinnieTheW0rm · 08/01/2016 17:01

The problem with so many of these trousers is that people stubbornly like skinnies. From the 50 something's who wore them first time round, to the younger woman who likes to wear boots.

M&S isn't going to be the vanguard of reintroducing the thigh magnifying boot cut.

wafflerinchief · 08/01/2016 17:03

yeah i think he's wrong too - I only get things delivered to store to save the delivery charge!

LovelyFriend · 08/01/2016 17:04

Does anyone else have problems with the M&S website on Chrome? It's unusable on Chrome for me for months now. I have to use Firefox especially

I do like their beauty and kids school uniform but I rarely buy clothes for myself there now.

Last lot of knickers I had from them have all fallen to bits so they are even fucking up the basics. Bras are still pretty good. They don't do all the lovely patterned tights they used to do - mostly quite plain now.

None of their tops fit me in the boobs

sn1ce · 08/01/2016 17:05

this dress makes even Twiggy look awful. The length, colour, style everything is deeply unflttering

sn1ce · 08/01/2016 17:07

sorry-here

GoblinLittleOwl · 08/01/2016 17:08

Their ordering system is dreadful, most garments advertised are out of stock before they even hit the store, and even the staff are poor quality.

Tried to click on the picture of (apparently) leisurewear which frequently appears at the side of mumsnet, but instead got into a very lengthy blog from all sorts of people telling me about the fun they are having, with M & S!! Not Mark Bolland, obviously.

Behooven · 08/01/2016 17:08

Poor twiggy!

ppeatfruit · 08/01/2016 17:08

To be fair M & S has always slowly followed fashion unsuccessfully, I do buy classics there, the per una plain jeans are fine for me. I have never bought loudly patterned clothes there.

I agree that they are now not the same quality that they were. I'd spend more on better quality materials.

gerbo · 08/01/2016 17:09

Er, I wore an M&S dress to a wedding this winter! It's bright red, bodycon-ish, cut out panels at the shoulder, and, I thought, 'modern' and nice?!?! But then I work in early years so wear old clothes to school every day, to be covered in playdough, etc., and any excuse to wear a dress. Fitted well, washes well. It's on the website now, reduced. Can't attach a picture, but definitely wasn't frumpy....if anything, the opposite!

Now, however I'm doubting my taste and worry everyone was sniggering at the woman in a marks dress.........?!
