I just mentioned them on another thread and felt all nostalgic. I don't think there's been a good S&B show since then. Ok the fashion might have been a bit grim at times but it was so fun to watch.

Loved their programme. You are right as in not been one like it since.

HappyGirlNow · 02/01/2016 21:44

Can't say I was particularly impressed by them. Some of it made sense, but more and more of it was a formulaic snoozefest, no real sense style.

And in real life they're still wearing the same clothes 15 years later! And looking very dated.

HappyGirlNow · 02/01/2016 21:45

*sense OF style

Oblique27 · 02/01/2016 21:59

They were invariably nasty to the women involved in their programmes, that was hard to take. At least Gok seems to like people

LynetteScavo · 02/01/2016 22:09

Oh, they were bitches! I listed to w

LynetteScavo · 02/01/2016 22:11

Sorry dropped phone! Blush

I listened to their advice though. But they don't seemed to have kept up with the times (I sound like my mother now!) from what I can tell.

MairzyDoats · 02/01/2016 22:11

I miss The Clothes Show on a Sunday evening!

BrianButterfield · 02/01/2016 22:12

I always thought they did actually want people to change though. It didn't seem nasty as much as straight talking (and.a lot of the did look like shit tbh).

Ooh yes the Clothes Show. I used to like that but I was a bit too young for it really.

MairzyDoats · 02/01/2016 22:15

I was early teens and couldn't afford anything they showed but it was great viewing. Odd time to put it on though, right before Antiques Roadshow and Songs of Praise!

SauvignonPlonker · 02/01/2016 22:16

I didn't think they particularly liked women - remember that awful 3-way mirror room? And always commenting on the woman's "tits" - often grabbing them too?

At least Gok Wan liked women & genuinely tried to improve confidence, or for women to feel better about themselves.

But I agree, yes there doesn't seem to be an equivalent nowadays.

Donge13 · 03/01/2016 00:27

I loved the clothes show

looki · 03/01/2016 00:41

I loved T&S but even though I didn't have children at the time, I remember wondering how the mums they styled (they spent a day in their lives first as far as I remember?) managed to maintain the style afterwards. I must try to find them on YouTube and check again .

SmellyFartado · 03/01/2016 00:48

Gok Wan has a celeb style programme on soon. Was on Daily Fail yesterday & think it airs this month.

Destinysdaughter · 03/01/2016 07:41

I loved it too! Really enjoyed the transformations. Also loved Ten Years Younger, the women looked so amazing afterwards it made me feel really happy as it gave me hope!

missmargot · 03/01/2016 09:00

I loved She's Gotta Have It (I think?) with Liza Tarbuck. More shopping than style strictly speaking but it was still great.

Swampmonster39 · 03/01/2016 09:22

Ten years younger when it was with the lady with long blonde hair was fab!

It's still a bit of a catchphrase with me and my mum when we go clothes shopping. X

afghanda · 03/01/2016 09:30

I loved them. I thought that Gok Wan regularly made women look awful in the outfits he picked for them.

leb33 · 03/01/2016 11:13

They seemed to get nastier as the series went on however their books are really good. Don't laugh but the book that Coleen Rooney wrote a few years back was actually quite good for basic tips, sort of re-programming if you like. She obviously had help writing it but it's worth a read if you can pick it up cheap.

NattyGolfJerkin · 03/01/2016 11:21

Ten years younger was hideous! All plastic surgery & cosmetic dentistry. Yuck

Donge13 · 03/01/2016 12:12

I did love Lisa Eldridge on 10 years younger. I still watch her you tube page

dannydyerismydad · 03/01/2016 12:17

Years and years ago there was a slot in some daytime TV show with David Emmanuel called "you can't wear that". I bloody loved it.

SauvignonPlonker · 03/01/2016 13:39

Ah, I remember Nicky Hambleton-Jones from 10 years younger too! I didn't think she had very much warmth about her.

We definitely need a new style/beauty programme though!

Nettletheelf · 03/01/2016 15:27

I loved T&S. I wish they were still on telly.

I think they blew it when they moved over to ITV and started churning out pop psychology nonsense, loosely linked to clothes. They should have stuck with the original formula.

I quite enjoyed their briskness. Their premise was 'your friends will tell you that you look great even if you don't, but we're not your friends and we'll tell you the truth!'

Agree that their books were great. I learned loads from them.

SauvignonPlonker · 03/01/2016 18:14

I have their body shape book, and although the clothes have dated, I think the advice about what suits your shape is pretty solid & still relevant now.
