MM and MI - so sad when someone dies at Christmas, particularly if they have children.

As I said, not holding my breath re novel, and will send it out to some other agents in the new year. And will try and finish the other two...

Still have sore throat and horrible, tight cough. But no hangover.

We are at the beach, waiting for the New Years Day swim. I'm not going in!

herbaceous · 01/01/2016 10:36

I shall always think of my dear crepeys when I wear my ring!

Have awoken here, after a bad nights sleep, in a right bad mood. No doubt partly down to constant drinking for the past fortnight, but also because I'm feeling an injustice. I have a group of old friends which we often have round to ours for dinner/lunch, as we're the only ones with a child. So, for example we had them here on 20th for Xmas drinks, here for my birthday post party drinks, and here for a curry Friday about once a month. But we never get invited to theirs. I have dropped some very heavy hints for a lunch invitation today, but nothing is forthcoming. If it's because they don't like us, surely they wouldn't come to ours in the first place?

bigTillyMint · 01/01/2016 12:16

Herbs I'm sure that they love you - who wouldn't? Do they host the others round their house? Maybe they are worried that your lovely DS would be bored?

No hangover here (prosecco is the way to go!) but early call from DMs care manager- DM called her and she went round because heating wasn't working (think DM had fiddled with something) and was in a right old flap. Again. Said she didn't know where DH and I were despite having waved us off on Mon and had spoken to me yesterday (when she was in a flap about the milk)Sad

motherinferior · 01/01/2016 12:22

Could it be something as simple as their house being in a total state? I speak as someone who severely edited the people entering the Inferiority Complex in recent months till BTM's cleaner rescued us!

motherinferior · 01/01/2016 12:23

Or yes to DS and boredom. Of course they love you!

herbaceous · 01/01/2016 12:39

Don't think it's a cleanliness issue. We used to go to theirs until a couple of years ago, and their flat was spic and span. Our house is much more grotty!

Maybe you're right about the DS entertainment factor...

Sounds a bit worrying about your mum, BTM.

Rosebag · 01/01/2016 12:39

herbs as someone whose middle name is "hospitality" mostly due to upbringing, I have learnt that there are those who do and those who do so selectivity and those who don't. I have close friends....well, I thought they were close, whose place we have never, ever been invited to. Sometimes we never find out the reason but it might be like MI says...it's more about them being worried about something than not wanting to be with you.

beachy we have just been blown to kingdom come trying to walk on the prom at L !!

tilly Sad

Ok leaving now for the smoke. See you on the other side xxx

Lalsy · 01/01/2016 12:43

Herbs, of course they do!

I know we are less good at having people round than some of our lovely friends. And it is partly the hours dh works (weekends, yesterday, some of today for example) and my domestic disinclination/incompetence. It takes its toll on the time and space to do the thinking and sorting. But the situation you describe sounds very unbalanced so I agree with others - I think they may be thinking of your ds.

herbaceous · 01/01/2016 13:10

They could also be permanently afraid of DS smearing gravy on their newly upholstered v expensive furniture, or linen-papered walls. Gay, you know.

Lalsy · 01/01/2016 13:12

Herbs Grin. Ahem, have you seen any good coats in the sales? I have an excellent waterproof and and old-fashioned wool winter coat. I would like something in between - ideally waterproof, not full length, bit of warmth but not boiling, bit more style than North Face!

herbaceous · 01/01/2016 13:20

There were loads in the Liberty sale yesterday, but I averted my gaze!

Lalsy · 01/01/2016 13:54

Blackduck · 01/01/2016 14:15

BTM :(

Beachy Dp had his NY swim :). (I didn't)

Herbs I feel the same re friends, but some (weirdly) are in awe of my cooking!!! I have pointed out I'll eat beans on toast if someone else is cooking....

NY day lunch is clearly a big thing on Gozo.... Lots of very well dressed families dinning....

BeachysFlipFlops · 01/01/2016 14:51

I'm not sure NY swims count if there are in warmer climes, BD. It has to be the English Channel/ North Sea/ Irish Channel etc. Smile

Herbs, I think different people socialise in different ways. We've had lovely dinner parties at other people's houses, but we never throw them as I find them really stressful to host. But I'll happily have 40 people to a barbecue where I can lay on lots of food (which isn't too closely examined) or one family to supper.....so I'm hopeless at repaying people with similar levels of hospitality that they have afforded me....

CointreauVersial · 01/01/2016 14:58

May I be the last crepey to wish you all Happy New Year!

Just about feeling human after a long bath; now slumped in front of The Sound Of Music. The glasses have been washed, and every crumb of party popper innard hoovered up.

Last night was a blast - we invited our besties plus DCs, and two of my university friends (who conveniently married each other) and family. The meal turned out brilliantly, though I say so myself (the "burnt" pie filling I was so worried about was successfully salvaged), and the DCs (age range 8-14) all got along well. Strops - you'll be pleased to hear Just Dance was deployed, in fact we nearly missed the fireworks as we were mid-dance as midnight approached. DD1 was an absolute superstar, helping with the meal, then organising a little army of plate stackers and scrapers afterwards.

DS had an excellent time at his party (a muddy marquee on a farm), and made it back to his friend's house at 2am in a taxi that they'd arranged and paid for. He is a little jaded this morning ("seven or eight beers" apparently Hmm), but behaved himself.

You mentioned how sad it is to lose loved ones at this time of year - my uni friend is the one whose DM died on Christmas Day last year. Sad

bigTillyMint · 01/01/2016 15:42

Lalsy, you want a coat with "more style than North Face"? Rinse your mouth out, woman - I'll have you know that my teens think Northies are the height of swagGrin

bigTillyMint · 01/01/2016 15:44

And Addle, apparently the brainiest boy in Y12 was at our house yesterday and I didn't even get a glimpse #notinvitedtoteenpre-party!

wordassociationfootball · 01/01/2016 16:55

I thought that in defence of North Face BTM and I didn't even realise the teens liked them.

Some very sad and worrying news on here Sad

Happy 2016 Crepies. I have so much to thank you all for in the last year. Normalising the stuff of life. Being strong and brave. Providing community. Your honesty, humour, the general KBO and the kindness. The ruddy kindness. And the funny stuff and the everything.

Mrs S, fingers crossed the interest turns into something solid and £££ is/are deployed.

I had a New Year's Day run as I live and breathe.

Billionaire Boy and Sherlock later. DH making dinner. I've been writing and might sling the hoover round and mop. We will be the only family in Britain not to have seen Star Wars by end of the weekend, I'll warrant.

bigTillyMint · 01/01/2016 17:01

No WAF, we haven't seen it and I doubt any of us ever will see itGrin

magimedi · 01/01/2016 17:03

WAF - I'm on the not seeing Star Wars bench as well.

hattymattie · 01/01/2016 17:30

Herbs - I am rubbish at returning hospitality as I always think everybody has a fab house compared to me and I will be judged for it's small size, cracked living room roof etc. Also I always feel my cooking will be found wanting compared to the numerous Nigella level cooks we seem to have around here.

I have been round to drink champagne at a friend's birthday today, and have told the family they can forage for food this evening. DD1's friend turned up at midday, I think she may have overpartied, she lunched with us and has slept in DD's bed for the past 4 hours.Hmm

Lalsy · 01/01/2016 18:30

Let it be known that I love my North Face waterproof and would not be without it. Delighted to hear teens have such highly developed sense of style and the joy of being dry. As the car bumper stickers don't say, my other coat has even less swag.

dh and I haven't seen Star Wars and would like to.

hattymattie · 01/01/2016 18:51

Lalsy - Star Wars worth a look Smile.

David Cameron was wearing North Face on the news last night, and the night before he was wearing Berghaus - he seems to have a large collection of fleeces!

DD's friend is awake and eating - I reckon she's here for the night.Smile
