MARKS & SPENCER DISAPPOINTING

What a disappointment. I know Black Friday may not be the ideal time to visit the store, but honestly, what a load of old tat.
Christmas/party selection seems to consists of the nastiest, itchiest material with sequins stuck on it. Looks cheap, but in reality is anything but!
Cashmere in the sale, horrible. Not a single pair of SZ 14 jeans in Long.
Can't believe how poor the quality of their clothes are. Is it me, or does anyone else agree?

You would probably have done better online. I had a list of things that i was after and then grabbed the ones that were included in 30% off but no extras. Agree that you have to hunt through the sea of polyester, but again i find online better as you can look at the fabric content and filter so that it only shows you things with, for example cotton. I rarely find that they have the sizes/lengths that i want in store, so i do see your point.

hiccupgirl · 27/11/2015 19:05

I bought a nice going out top with 50% off earlier on today so I can't agree.

I do agree though that M&S is very hit and miss and it's tricky to get things in your size in store.

jaybeeyellow · 27/11/2015 19:09

I had a credit note that I,ve been trying to spend. Couldn't find a single thing!

jaybeeyellow · 27/11/2015 21:06

Not even knickers! had given up the will to live by the time i got to that dept.

Their beauty section is really pretty damn good these days, though. Big range of good products. Agree about the clothes - I had a wander around the other day and there was nothing I actually wanted.

BrendaandEddie · 27/11/2015 21:14

oh one of THESE threads again

Pippin8 · 27/11/2015 21:46

I got a bra & knickers set, jeans, a top & a ren skincare set all for £50 online. I'm not sure what the jeans will be like, but all the other stuff I've seen in store & liked. It is hit & miss though, I posted a dress on here I bought & loved. It ended up sat in the bag for weeks until I finally saw how cheap & nasty it looked. I returned it.

JaceLancs · 27/11/2015 22:19

Got DD a dressing gown and some pyjamas
A cashmere cardigan for myself - I have 2 others same in different colours and they wash and wear well
Couldn't find anything else though - their sparkly stuff is pretty dire I agree

polyhymnia · 28/11/2015 00:07

Cheap and nasty looking sums up the vast majority of their clothes IMO. But their plain knitwear is fine.

polyhymnia · 28/11/2015 00:16

Sorry, not all their knitwear - much is dire. Meant to put 'cashmere'.

MiracletoCome · 28/11/2015 05:50

I managed to get 2 pairs of jeans in 14L online, a plainish navy cardigan from Per Una Shock and a slip. I agree though, never any 14L in store.

MiracletoCome · 28/11/2015 05:56

Oh, and I generally spend credit notes on food, cafe etc Smile, as I never see anything much in store.

Savagebeauty · 28/11/2015 06:04

My DS works there part time and apart from food and some lingerie, I have never bought anything from there.
Trousers not long enough to start with and I've never gone "ooh," over anything in there. And my local one is massive and I can go to Oxford Circus.

wannabestressfree · 28/11/2015 06:06

I love marks and Spencer Blush

jaybeeyellow · 28/11/2015 11:42

I agree, the beauty products are the saving grace at the moment. I particularly like the Ren line.

I love Pixi. The Glow Tonic is amazing!

EssentialHummus · 28/11/2015 14:27

I much prefer the website to the stores for sorting/trawling. Bought a pair of "paper bag" trousers in the sale, plus some thermal socks to get free delivery Grin.

I think they have the odd nice item, and I still rate their bras and PJs, but with most of their clothing I find it either looks plain/old-fashioned (I'm 29), or is (rarely) beautiful and so popular that everyone in the office is wearing the same.

SecretBondGirl · 28/11/2015 14:44

Things I like from M&S: underwear, pjs & nighties, swimwear, shoes, tights, cashmere, autograph range, food, cosmetics

Things I don't like from M&S: Per Una, Indigo, lots of synthetic fabrics which wash and wear badly, the men's wear reminds me of 'Grace Brothers' and DP will only buy their shirts and nothing else, children's wear particularly the girls stuff

CallingAllEmergencyKittens · 28/11/2015 16:42

Got a cute indigo stretch denim a-line mini button through shirt dress yesterday- caught my eye as I was leaving with the shopping, 30% meant off meant it was £31.50. It'll be great over a jumper with boots for winter and fine for spring/early summer with sandals too. Can't find it online though.

I think the trick with M&S is to walk through quickly and only stop if you catch sight of something out of the corner of your eye. If you have a proper rake through the racks you're wasting your time and will always be disappointed.

AlwaysBeYourself · 28/11/2015 17:10

I bought a couple of the cashmere jumpers at full price a few weeks ago. They are lovely. Got the scarves too.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/11/2015 17:16

I got a top. Had intended to buy it full price and it was half price. I already have it in black, so know how much I like it, so got it in burgundy as well.

BrendaandEddie · 28/11/2015 17:37

agree cashmere is LOVELY

NellysKnickers · 28/11/2015 18:00

I just buy jeggings, Knickers and basic long sleeve tops from m and s. Fab fit and good quality. I have been horrified at a couple of 'fancy tops' and dresses I've seen in there so just stick to the basics that I know and love
