BerylStreep · 13/11/2015 14:58

So thinking of things like hair cut / colour, make up, hair removal, cosmetic procedures. I haven't worked out my own spending, but thought it would be an interesting thing to do.

OP posts:
Kennington · 14/11/2015 13:28

Hairdresser cut and colour £400
Hair products, including shampoo£100
Make up - £100
Perfumes £100 - I normally get one pricey and one cheaper but fortunately I get presents too
£120 on eyebrow threading

I would say I am medium maintenance but the cost has increased since I turned 35 and hair colour and make up are now a requirement for me to look alive.Blush

AnyoneButAndre · 14/11/2015 13:33

About 300 on haircuts, 100 on perfume, 100ish on skincare and 100 max on makeup including nail varnish (used to be less but I've just had a makeover). 20 quid on razors and 20 on shampoo maybe?

EcclefechanTart · 14/11/2015 13:51

Are we including soap, body moisturiser, sunscreen etc? That would make it creep up I reckon.

BerylStreep · 14/11/2015 14:44

So is Dionysuss the highest so far?

OP posts:
Judydreamsofhorses · 14/11/2015 14:51

£60 for a haircut every six weeks, £8.50 for eyebrow threading about the same. Other than that i do everything else myself, but definitely spend far too much on makeup, skincare, perfume, nailpolish etc.

I have an ordinary job (lecturer) but that doesn't stop me wanting to look nice!

NoArmaniNoPunani · 14/11/2015 14:53

Lashes £35 every 3 weeks. £600
Brows £20 every 6weeks £175
Hair cut and colour £80 every 6 weeks £700
Fanny wax £20 every 6 weeks £175
£20 per month various other beauty bits £240
Floating/facials/massages 3x year £200

£2090

TimeToMuskUp · 14/11/2015 14:57

Haircut and highlights are £90 every 6 weeks. Nails I do my own shellac so probably £100 yearly on supplies and colours. Eyelashes £40 every 4 weeks. Brows are £25 every 6 weeks. I use Dermalogica moisturiser and Kerastase hair products so that would probably bump up the total considerably. I tend to stick to the same makeup brands and buy a few high-end things a few times a year rather than lots of little, cheaper products every month.

Before adding it up I'd have guessed at a couple of hundred a year but it's probably far more.

Leviticus · 14/11/2015 15:03

This year:

4 x hair appointments = £450 ish
2 x sets of gel nails = £50
Thread vein laser removal course (highly successful if you're wondering) = £325
Make up and toiletries possibly around £400, hard to judge (I don't understand the thread about being ashamed of a beauty product hoard at all Confused).

I do my own waxing and eyebrows.

If I had the means I'd spend a lot more. I'd go to a salon for everything and buy beautiful skincare and make up every day. Sigh.

freshmint · 14/11/2015 15:07

Cut and color twice a year £600
Makeup products about £100 a year
Skincare products about £250 a year
Do my own nails and waxing. Might have a pedicure 2ce a year.

Low maintenance I'd say

lavendersun · 14/11/2015 15:14

Eccle, if we did that mine would increase by about £130. I am definitely low maintenance, other than a decent haircut I do very little. Cut (never polish) my nails and wear foundation, mascara and lipstick on a 'special' occasion. Just who I am I suppose.

I do like handmade soaps though - I have got really sensitive skin, prone to dryness. I am a member of the soap club here:

www.isleofmullsoap.scot

Two handmade soaps a month (for all of us). Even DH can feel a difference in his skin now he uses them.

madmomma · 14/11/2015 15:55

Makeup and skincare about £500, hair £200 as I don't do much to it. Nails £250. Pilates £700

SevenSeconds · 14/11/2015 16:03

Haircut / colour approx £350
Hair removal £25 (waxing once a year plus a tiny amount on razors)
Make up, perfume and skincare products - very little (I rarely wear make up or perfume and buy cheap skincare products)
Occasional spa treatment

Say £500 in total.

PoshPenny · 14/11/2015 16:12

Hair colour and cut about every 6 weeks, also get eyebrows lip and chin threaded at the same time and any shampoo/conditioner = £90 a time

That works out at £720 a year

No facials, manicures, massages etc etc
Make up and skincare. Don't wear make up every day, and not fancy brands when I do so say £250 over the year ought to cover it?

Gym membership £348 a year

I would have said I'm low maintenance... £1,318 a year or £109.83 a month. Avoiding looking like the wreck of the Hesperus is an expensive business it appears.

Datschi · 14/11/2015 16:35

Haircut probably once a year, £30-ish
I sometimes have a salon wax, maybe once a year again, another £30, and again eyebrows maybe once or twice a year, so say £20.

Don't colour my hair, wear make-up, perfume, or use skin care products of any description.

Probably spend £8 a year on new razor blades, maybe

So £88 a year, or about £7 a month.

BerylStreep · 15/11/2015 11:02

73 Dexter I think you may win the title for lowest spend, closely followed by Datschi!

Looking at my own spending, my biggest cost is haircuts - £45 each time, about 4 or 5 times a year. The annoying thing is that I never feel my hair is one of my best features. It used to be £90 each time for a cut & colour, but I have started colouring it myself (and I do as good a job).

BennyPoo · 15/11/2015 21:27

Hmmm. This could be scary
Hair cut £270
Colours. £200
Facial treatments £500
Nails £450
Podiatry £180
Make up £250
Skincare £500
Massage £120
Yikes! That's nearly £2,500 ! Good job my husband doesn't read Mumsnet!!

Twowrongsdontmakearight · 15/11/2015 21:33

Two haircuts a year at £40 each. Leg wax before hols £17. Two mascaras @ £20 ish and one lipstick for about the same. Facial wipes and moisturiser from Aldi at about £2 each. Actually more than I thought! Maybe I'll have to find cheaper make up ...

Frostycake · 15/11/2015 23:02

Oh god, loads and the amount increases with every year as I try to hold back the sands of time.

Hair cut & colour - £600 per year
Eyebrows shape & colour - £150 per year
LVL - £300 per year
Spray Tan - £100 per year
IPL - £300 per year
Filler & Botox £1000 per year
Teeth bleaching - £300 per year

Christ! £2,750 per year. I do my own mani/pedis & waxing - probably a good job looking at the above spend.

BlueEyedWonder · 15/11/2015 23:19

Haircut and highlights every other month £600
Shampoo/conditioner/ hair product £60
Moisturiser/toner/facewash £150
Make up £150
Eyebrow threading £20

OMG nearly a grand!

iamanintrovert · 16/11/2015 10:33

Hair cut/colour £200
Actual hair colour purchased separately £150

Eyebrow shape and tint £120
Waxing products to do at home £70

Makeup £25

Skincare £150

Hair care £100

Total £815 yikes

goodnessgraciousgoudaoriginal · 16/11/2015 17:39

I've been growing my hair, so no cuts, and when I get it trimmed I get a friend to do it (she is a hairdresser by trade). I went back to my natural colour a few years ago as I couldn't be arsed dying it any more (and I actually prefer it now!)

Make up, I have quite a bit that doesn't really need replacing, so it'd say maybe £70 a year as an average of replacing odd bits and pieces or buying the odd thing here and there. I wear make up every day, but don't use much.

Skincare....Probably the most out of everything. I'd say maybe.....300 a year max? Only because if you use something twice a day, you obviously get through it quickly.

So about 370 odd a year at the moment. I haven't included things like shampoo and conditioner, as I don't use anything fancy. I also haven't included the cost of razors, because that's just a basic cost for god's sake!!

I used to spend much more on make up as I would just buy whatever caught my eye, but haven't been able to afford to do that in ages! Grin

SoConfused15 · 17/11/2015 19:21

My spend is huge this year as I'm having laser hair removal on legs and bikini area (all off/Hollywood) which is costing £340 every 2 months Shock but other then that £60 every 3 months for cut and colour and £20 for gel nails once in a blue moon. Thinking of trying LDL lashes soon.

Philoslothy · 17/11/2015 19:43

A few thousand.

Hair is around £100 every six weeks, sometimes more sometimes less so that is about £900
Nails done every fortnight to three weeks at £30 so that is about £500
Threading done every three weeks at £15 so that is £260
I have a facial about every month which is around £50 so that is about £600
Pedicure averages out about once a month at £40 so that is about £500

I guess on average I spend about £100 a month and make up and related products, another £1200. During fake tan time that will rise!

I do go for massages but I am not counting that.

So about £4k without thinking about it too much

didireallysaythat · 17/11/2015 23:30

I want to get my nails done so frequently !

Hair cut 1-2 times a year £100

Moisturiser etc £50 a year
Perfume £50 a year
Conditioner £20-40 for two bottles that last a year
Eye drops £5 a month (blood shot isn't a good look)
Nails £30 every 2-3 years

I need to try harder.

LondonHuffyPuffy · 18/11/2015 14:58

Oh God. I don't even want to think about this. I've probably spent about £500 in the last two months alone on products, hair and nails Blush
