So thinking of things like hair cut / colour, make up, hair removal, cosmetic procedures. I haven't worked out my own spending, but thought it would be an interesting thing to do.

Bit scared to tot his up!

Hai:

  • only go to a salon twice a year for a cut and balyage, buts its pricey (£250 a pop)
  • about £50 a year on home dye to touch up my roots
I buy decent shampoo (Aveda, £20), but only actually wash my hair once a week so its lasts ages, maybe get through three bottles a year = £60 other products - conditioner, styling spray, shiny serum, hair spray - probably about £100 a year?

So thats over £700 a year on my hair. Yikes.

Fortnightly manicures are £15 each = £360

Monthly pedicures at £20 each = £240

Make-up - I only use a few products and stick to what I know works. I doubt I send more than £60 a year on make-up.

Skincare - have massively cu down by swapping loads of higher end products for cheap stuff, but am still a bit of 'ooh I'll just try that new wonder cream' sucker. maybe £250 a year?

Grand total approx £1,300 a year.

Fuck.

And thats not even taking into account clothes and shoes and accessories. Double fuck.

OK, you need to tell me, is balyage some unbelievably posh 200 quid hair treatment or a random typo? because I have literally no idea.

NutCrackerSlacker · 18/11/2015 20:56

Grin...its posher than it sounds. its basically a very subtle highlight that is painted on to the underneath of the strands of hair, rather than foils on the top of your hair.

So it gives 'movement' to long, dark hair and is a very subtle way of going lighter as you get older.

My hair is a bit like a longer version of this.

Its fucking hard to find hairdresser that can do it well, hence the extortionate price (and only twice a year salon trips!). Its easy upkeep, though, as only the lower half of the hair is treated, so can do my roots myself in between.

Ooh posh

DelphiniumBlue · 18/11/2015 21:58

Haircut £30 every 10 weeks or so, so£150 p.a.
Colour diy every 4 weeks @ £5 so £65 p.a.
Eyelash & brow tint about 4 x a year @ £20 so £80 p.a
Nail varnish/ files/remover/cooton wool about £40 p.a
Make-up: eyeliner pencils, maybe one mascara, one foundation, 3 or 4 lipsticks masybe £100 p.a
Aldi moisturiser, maybe £10 p.a
Hand/body creams £20 p.a.
So under £500 a year.
More creams, bath/ shower stuff , perfume etc for Xmas and birthday.
If I included sunscreen and insect repellent april- September another £50, plus about a fiver for razors.
Haven't included shampoo and conditioner, maybe another £50.
Think I'm pretty low maintenance.

I'm a beauty therapist and nail technician so my colleagues do my treatments Wink.
I have brows waxed and tinted every 4 weeks, gel polish every 2 weeks, lashes tinted sporadically, legs waxed every 6 weeks and the occasional set of lashes.
I pay for haircut and highlights every 9 weeks 55 pounds. Pedicures every 3 monthsish, 25 pounds. And I use Liz Earle skin care at 45 pounds every 3 months. I spend about 20 pounds on makeup and Tigi hair stuff a month.

Well a lot of the posters here have made me realise that I don't spend as much on myself as a lot of others - and perhaps it is time to. I've just booked to get some botox done next week. I think DH should be made to pay for it since he has caused most of the frown lines.
